In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Hello everyone. I am brand new to this board and I have a question. I have been trying to find out about a snake I bought a few days ago at a reptile show in San Diego. She was sold to me as a regular ball python, but there's something strange about her:
the man told me she is about 2 years old
she has white on the top of her body in the middle
the middle is also just black and white, while the on the rest of her the color is pretty normal
the man also told me that every time she sheds, she gets more and more white
I looked this up and the only thing I could find was that the condition is probably vitiligo, which happens in humans too. A normal snake is hatched but slowly loses pigment. But this is the only thing I could find out about her. I would like to know (if anyone knows the answer) if this might be genetic or what, and if anyone has any other information I would greatly appreciate it. If anyone wants to see a picture, let me know and I will try to figure out how to post one.

Thanks for the help!

I will try something new in a few hours. I am sending the picture to my other half so that he can use photoshop to size it down. Then he will post it on his website and I will then leave the address here. I am very sorry this is taking so long, but hopefully it's worth it.  <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Again, thanks for your time!

Hey no problem...I'm really interested in seeing this.  Oh one other thing, are the scales all there in that spot or is it just skin?  Thanks.

The scales are all there, and now another interesting thing I have found is that some of them appear to have a pinkish hue. The ones surrounding the white scales are yellowish. Yeah, she's really a nice snake. Her scales are all very smooth and she has been eating well for me, so there's no indication that she is sick at all from whatever it is. Hopefully I will have a picture up by about 5pm California time. Or I guess I could also just email you a picture? It might be higher quality that way. It's up to you.

Thanks!

OK I think I have finally converted the pic to something I can use here. Here goes:

That's really odd...email me a pic if you can get it any bigger, if not no biggy.  Was she a WC?  Was she ever fed live prey?  Ever kept with a heat rock?  I'm asking this cause it COULD be scar tissue, but that wouldn't explain the lightening around the wound/white spot/scar.  Hmmmm...very interesting.  If you can get more pictures, closeups perhaps, I would love to see them.  I don't want to create more work for you though.

From what the man that I got her from told me, she was cb and hatched normally, then every time she shed, there would be more white coming in. She does eat live mice and rats, and there was no direct heat like a heat rock. It was heat tape on the outside of the terrarium. I would be more than happy to email you some other pics that I have of her in different angles, and I will take some close ups of her white spots so this mystery might be solved.

Thanks!

That would be great.  You can send me email through the email button on my messages.  I'd also be interested to hear who you got her from (you can email me that info).  I might not be able to solve the mistery for you but hopefully I can get you a little closer to it being solved.

Thanks, I think I will do that. To all the people who have been helping me, thank you so much. If anyone comes up with anything let me know.

Thanks
Perriann Mayfield

I am sorry, but I am rather ignorant of the types of ball python. Could you elaborate on the type III?

There was a nasty debate not too long ago on a leucistic that was hatched out, if it was type I or type II  (Best not to go into it lol)  anyway, the type III joke has been floating around for a while now hehe.

Tegan,

you are right about the type III thing being around for a while.  The best one I heard was the pure white snake overlayed with a normal pattern.
