    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I am starting to research cresties and hope to get one in the future. I have come across a food called Crested Gecko Meal Replacement Powder and have read that some people feed only this to their cresties. Iwas wondering if this was okay. Also It gets really cold here except for about 3 months out of the year and i was wondering if I should just use an infared night lamp for them during the colder months. God knows I have enough of those laying around,lol.
Thank you
Kristy

The Crested Gecko MRP is designed to be a complete replacement of all other food. I fed my crested the stuff for a solid 6 months before i had to sell them without problems. I still use the Gargoyle Gecko Diet only with my Gargoyles. It's prefectly safe and (I think) a lot easier than dealing with live food.
When you buy your crested(s), make sure you ask the breeder what they are feeding on. If they've only been on live food or have had some baby food, they may resist the change. You may end up having to mix some baby food in to help get them converted. Once they're eating it you can slowly add less and less baby food until they're on pure CGD. I'm not sure why but some animals convert over right away and some take a little time to get used to it.

As for the light, an infrared should be fine as long as your cage temperatures stay within range. You could also use a under tank heater. Either way, you should be able to get a small digital thermometer at Target or Walmart for under $15-$20 to help monitor the temp and see what works for your situation.

Thank you so much, I asked this question on another forum and didn't really get any clear answers. I feel alot better about the answers I get from here as I know a vast majority of all of you really care for your animals and know what you are doing. i have already got my husband in love with cresties just from showing him pics on websites.lol Looks like I wont have to try and talk him into getting one eventually.

I use the crested gecko diet for mine, but still give them a variety......different flavors of fruit baby food (they seem to like banana the best, lol) and occasional crickets. Maybe it's not necessary, but I know I wouldn't like eating the exact same thing day in and day out. ;)

Yeah I would assume variety would be good. My leos get sick of eating crickets all the time so I usually switch from those to mealies or silworms. My mom is always soming over wanting to hld my leos and see my snake and so I emailed her a link to pics of cresties to show her what I was talking about and she absolutely fell in love, she kept saying how much she wants one.lol I told her to come on here and read and look for caresheets, I think she is actually going to get one eventually. She was asking me all sorts of questions like how long should I research them and how long did I research my leos, I told her almost a year before I got them. Shes really excited about it.lol

It's kind of fun getting other people addicted isn't it? :) In terms of eating only the CGD, it is perfectly acceptable to only feed CGD (it was designed to be a full replacement, including vitamins and calcium). I had kept them purely on the stuff for over 6 months and everyone grew and was healthy. The only time you may really have to give additional stuff is breeding season when I'd add a little extra calcium for the females.
That's not to say that a variety of foods is bad, but it is unneccesary (in terms of health), and I've never had an animal suddenly stop eating it like Leos do with some of their food. By all means continue to offer a variety, but I just wanted to make sure you don't feel like you have to.

Okay, Thanks. I dont mind offering variety. But thats good to know. Yeah its fun getting other people into reptiles, I have started early with my 3 year old son, hes really into reptiles now. He helps me with the ones I have now and is learning very quickly, it amazes me, if you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up he will tell you a herpetologist. It cracks me up. He can tell you the common names of the reptiles I currently have. Its so neat.lol
