Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

QUESTIONS FOR THE FEMALE SNAKE-OWNERS

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
2 corn snakes

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
I actually fell in love with my first corn snake while I was working for a pet shop. He was the usual fiesty baby when we got him in. I was the only one willing to hold him (puh-lease, those bites didn't even break the skin), and he soon tamed out. Got to the point that I couldn't imagine selling him to someone, so I bought him myself. Tehani was actually a present from my fiance.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
Yes. I actually have them at my fiance's house, because it's the only way I can keep them at the moment. I still handle them whenever I go over to his place, though.

4. How tall are you?
5'3"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Nope

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Nope

7. What is your age group?
26-40

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?

Ball python

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

They are beautiful, cute, and come in many different colors. I would also never own a snake that could get too large, since I wouldn't be able to handle it. Sooo ball pythons are perfect for me. They're like miniature versions of the larger pythons, which is cool.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?

No, but it's fine, I like taking care of him.

4. How tall are you?

5'5"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

No

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

Yes, partly. I don't want a snake that could strangle me, lol. I'm not very strong, I don't think I could even lift a big snake.

7. What is your age group?
15-25

QUESTIONS FOR THE FEMALE SNAKE-OWNERS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I was going to make a poll out of this, but there are too many questions that I'm interested in asking to make one poll...
Not to be sexist, but I am curious as to how many snake-owning females we have (more than you think, I bet!), & a little bit about what & why.
Indulge my curiosity, if you will, by copy/paste answering the following questions:

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
I have a 10 foot albino burmese, a 7 foot redtail, a 6 foot dumeril, a baby dumeril, a 4 foot redtail and 3 ball pythons

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own? Just wanted to get a nice collection going

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!) Yes my husband

4. How tall are you? 5'8

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age? No

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor? No

7. What is your age group?26 to 40

If you feel so inclined, add questions of your own that you'd like answers to, from your fellow female snake-lovers

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
Longicauda, Argentine boa, Dumeril, Bredli carpets.

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
I love the larger species, I used to own BPs and a MBK. But I feel it's the same as large and small breed dogs. Shih tzus are cute but I'd rather have a German Shepard.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
No, my boyfriend respects my hobbies and has an interest because I keep them, but he's still afraid they'll eat me one day. lol

4. How tall are you?
5 foot midget

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
I go by the 8' rule. Even at that size they could tear a large man up if they wanted to. It's about reading body language and knowing what you're doing, obviously there needs to be a lot of respect for the animal no matter the size.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Somewhat, I'd really like to have some larger species some day but having takes a lot of space and food, and a team of people regardless of who you are.

7. What is your age group?
24

8. How many of you have had your love of the scaley ones ruin a relationship ?? Friend? Lover?? IN LAW??
Family HATES 'em. But my boyfriend likes them, friends too. Try telling your significant other about the hundreds of roaches you keep... On purpose. My guy is pretty awesome to accept all my crazy hobbies.

9. Do you have an "if I die" list, of who gets, or what to do with the "collection" once you pass?
Not really, I have a friend majoring in Zoology who got me into herps in the first place. She'd be my first choice, or the local herp society.

10. Why do you keep the species you work with? What are your goals with them?
I want to expand my collection to more unique species when I'm at a point where I can. I love them like any other pet, plus I like the education side of it when I have the option to. (Such as working with summer camps etc.)

11. Kinda got another one- any single ladies, how do you break the news to potential b/f's?
They should know immediately? They will always be a big part of my life, if they can't handle me being around snakes they won't be able to tolerate me.

12. How do your friends view your hobby / deal with your obsession?
Don't throw snakes at them, if they don't like them keep them locked up. If someone constantly had to tell me how much they hate them then that's their problem, not mine.

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
Colubrids, Pythons, Boas.

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
Morphs and Personality. .

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
I don't need help with them but my fiance' is a Hot keeper and has his own collection.

4. How tall are you?
5 foot 3 inches.

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Nope.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Hell no LOL.

7. What is your age group?
20

8. How many of you have had your love of the scaley ones ruin a relationship?
My loved ones accept me for who I am, they just don't visit my house during the Holidays.

9. Do you have an "if I die" list, of who gets, or what to do with the "collection" once you pass?
No, but I probably should. I am pretty old.

10. Why do you keep the species you work with? What are your goals with them?
Honestly, I keep and fancy Corn Snakes because of the diverse personality and morphs they come in.
The Olive python because of the unique and intelligent personality.
The larger pythons because I love the size they become.
Boa as a species in general because of all of the sub species you can obtain within the species.

11. Kinda got another one- any single ladies, how do you break the news to potential b/f's?
I show them my tattoos?

12. How do your friends view your hobby / deal with your obsession?
They're intrigued. I'm blessed with wonderful people in my life.

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
Currently only a male rosy boa (sent my ball python baby out to California a few days ago).

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
The great feeding response!

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
No.

4. How tall are you?
5'2"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Nope.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
No.

I am 15

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
A variety of rattlesnakes (5 species, 8 individuals), 1.1 Trans-Pecos Copperheads, and a wide variety of colubrids

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
I used to catch colubrids as a child. But as an adult I developed a lot of interest and fascination with rattlesnakes and gradually acquired a variety of species.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!)

My husband does help some, but the breeding aspect is mostly up to me.

4. How tall are you?
5'4"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
No

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Yes. Although I really like some of the small vipers from other parts of the world (Europe, Asia, etc.), I stick to North American venomous species due to the greater availability of antivenin should the unthinkable happen.

What is your age group?
<A little>Older than that, but none of your business!

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
colubrids, pythons, boas

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
curiosity and feeling out the hobby

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!)

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

I actually found her as a tiny baby freezing in an abandoned house in the middle of winter!

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?

Nope, the family is scared of my sweet girl. Lol

4. How tall are you?

5.7

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

Pancake, my first and only snake at the moment, was entirely a random event, so I didn't really "choose" a breed of snake that suited me, I do have a soft spot for ball pythons now though, sweet little creatures :)

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

I've always wanted a Burmese, but I'm totally going to hold off on that until I have more experience with powerful constrictors, and some help for a 16+ foot coil of muscles. So yeah, I suppose.

Yes, I have a family and dont feel comfortable with venomous or extra large snakes
I mean over 10 ft.

7. What is your age group?

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?

I have a Normal Ball Python, a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, a Butter Motley Corn Snake, and a Butter Bee Ball Python.

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

In fifth grade we had a normal corn snake for a class pet. I don't remember if I was interested in reptiles before that, but that certainly clinched it. She was wonderful. Individually, though...

The normal BP came home with me because I was young and naive and he was being neglected at the pet store. The BRB came home with me because I saw one years ago when they were still relatively rare and I've wanted one for years. The butter motley corn was $20 on Craigslist and super overweight. She's looking much better these days and is the prettiest motley I've ever seen. The butter bee was just too handsome to pass up. I've always wanted a BP morph of some kind. Mission accomplished!

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?

Nope! I'm single and I care for them all on my own. I don't really have a desire to have a pet that requires me to have another person around in order for me to safely handle it.

4. How tall are you?

5'9"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

No. They're all just ones I think are pretty and interesting!

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

I suppose, yes. But I don't see how this has to do with gender at all. Every good keeper should know their limits and respect them for their safety and the safety of their animals.

7. What is your age group?
15-25

I'm 25.

My question for the other ladies, if anyone sees this, is...

8. What other snakes would you like to own one day?

I have a whole list of other snakes I would like. Someday!

Bloor or Short-Tail Python
Carpet Python
Woma
Trans Pecos Rat
Dwarf Retic
Rosy Boa
Columbian Rainbow Boa
Hognose
House Snake
White Lipped Python
Some kinda Red Tailed Boa

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?

6 western hognose
2 ball pythons
1 diamondback water snake
1 central american red tail boa

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

I always liked hognose, they are adorable. Learned about them in a natural history course and bought myself one about a year later. The ball pythons were because they are just chill, cool snakes. The CA RTB because they are a good size as adults without being huge and they are generally good natured, not to mention pretty. The water snake because it was $5 at a repticon and looks cool.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!)

The bf puts them water but other than that, it's all me.

4. How tall are you?

5'10"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

Not really

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

Kinda. I would like to own an venemous or two but do not have the proper setups for them.

7. What is your age group?

I am 21. Have been owning snakes for about 2 years now.

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?

I have 5 ball pythons and 1 Caulker Cay Boa constrictor

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

Well I like ball pythons for all of their amazing morphs and they are super cute when balled up. Also they don't get too big to handle and are generally sweet. With my boa, I just love the boa personality. My boa is a lot more active and curious than my BP's. Also this might sound weird but I love the constrictor grip. To feel the amazing strength of the animal is something to behold..

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?

Nope. I live alone (And hope to remain that way forever) and take care of my 1 dog, 2 cats, 17 hamsters, 1 aquarium, 2 bearded dragons, 12 geckos, 8 tarantulas, and 6 snakes all on my own.

4. How tall are you?

5'2"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

Unfortunately, yes. I am pretty short, even for a girl, and handling an adult boa is rather difficult for me. I'm pretty strong, but that's why I went with a dwarf boa. I do hope to have a columbian boa someday though. I just want to handle more adults before that happens.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

Not really. I may actually end up keeping hots someday. It really depends.

7. What is your age group?

I am 21 years old.

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
BEL Ball Python & California Mountain Kingsnake

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
Fate, my fiancé brought home the kingsnake he rescued from some boy scouts who got bored with it. I've always wanted snakes and finally I had a partner who encouraged it. My exes were creeped out... I just got into BP's because I want a snake that will cuddle.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
I handle the husbandry and the details and he helps with the maintenance and feeding. Team effort!

4. How tall are you?
5'7"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Nope, but my small apartment dictated how large of a snake I could keep. We already have 2 cats and 20+ house plants. It's a jungle in here!

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Again, space is the bigger issue. I also would hate for one of the kitties to become dinner. They were here first after all.

7. What is your age group?
26-40

Tracy Ann Catherine

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
Albino male ball python
Black Pastel female ball python

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
Always interested in snakes since I was 7 years old... I think they're elegant and personally think ball pythons have adorable faces. Ball pythons are my favorite overall in terms in temperament and appearance, with all their morphs.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
Nope

4. How tall are you?
5'5"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
nope

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Partially. I prefer the tamer ones... I'd prefer to avoid being bitten, and when bitten, are only minor wounds. And ball pythons also happen to be beautiful.

7. What is your age group?
15-25

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?

1 normal ball python.

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?

This particular snake was a rescue, but I picked him because of some specific markings (big-eyed alien heads) and personality, but I like most snakes.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!)

Nope. Though I have some eager neighborhood kids who "visit" us at feeding time.

4. How tall are you?

5'11"

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?

Not really. However, I don't like the idea of cramming a large constrictor into a living space that happens to be convenient for me. Its easier to provide a comfortably generous space for smaller species. I've seen too many giant snakes wedged into sad situations.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

Sort of. Several of my favorite species are hots (rhinos and Gaboons), but I don't choose to take on those risks. I'm a very very long way from help. Its OK to enjoy them vicariously.

7. What is your age group?

Older than that, but none of your business!

If you feel so inclined, add questions of your own that you'd like answers to, from your fellow female snake-lovers!

Given choice, what would you like to keep?

Solomon Isl ground boa, Malagasy leaf-nosed snake, Amazon Basin emeralds

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
2 retics, 2 boas, 1 yellow annie, 1 borneo short tailed, one ball python

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
I had little snakes growing up and decided I wanted something bigger

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
My boyfriend helps out with my larger snakes

4. How tall are you?
short.... 5 ft

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Not really. My first retic was my platinum male and he was so intriguing I had to get another one.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?
Not really. Some of them came to me as free rescues people didn't want anymore.

7. What is your age group?
18-25

1. What type of snake(s) do you own?
-two olive african house snakes
-one patternless columbian rainbow boa
-looking for a bloodred corn and blonde malagasy hognose

2. What sparked your interest in the particular snake(s) you own?
-I already own dogs, cats, fish, rodents, and frogs...I realized I lacked any birds or reptiles. And I'm not much of a bird person.

3. Do you have help with your snake(s)?
(This is NOT a married/single question! Some of us have snakes & husbands/boyfriends that want nothing to do with them!)
Yes - he is the most gracious love of my life. When we first met, I only had one dog. Our family has blossomed and he has supported me all the way, including my desire to not have human children :):D

4. How tall are you?
5'4", 120lbs...but most of the time I possess the grace and size of a sasquatch on redbull

5. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your size/age?
Not particularly; the large snakes intimidate me in terms of compatibility with the rest of my pets. Plus I think that would be pushing the limit with my husband. The rainbow boa is probably my max.

6. Does your choice of snake have anything to do with your security/safety factor?

No, but my 2 pit bulls do. Well, sort of. They look terrifying but they are the mushiest rescues.

7. What is your age group?
15-25
26-40 --> Just turned 33...time to start lying.
41-50
Older than that, but none of your business!
None of you're business, no matter how old I am!

8. How many of you have had your love of the scaley ones ruin a relationship ?? Friend? Lover?? IN LAW??
None of my animals have ever ruined my current relationship. However, my ex-fiance became my ex b/c of his "no pets" policy. To put that into perspective, my current mother in law calls my female pet rat one of her "grandchildren".

9. Do you have an "if I die" list, of who gets, or what to do with the "collection" once you pass
I have no idea...I figured they'd all get divided up as parting gifts among all my friends who know me well enough to know how much I love my animal children
