    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I want to make sure we are ready for leo , we have a 20 long with screen top we have a hide box with paper towels ( or is there something better I need to use) water bowls and food bowls, I also already have the cali powder ( we have beardies who are very healthy and quite older) also a hiding place a heating pad, I just want to make sure we are not missing anything I may I've forgotten to list what else we have or forgotten, I would like to know if paying for adult female ( we are not breeding) what is the normal price to pay, I have seen them from 75 on, we have a friend who raises them who owns a pet shop he has a little girl about a year it told me he would sell 45 she is quite hand tame and very pretty would that be a good deal, also I want to make sure I have everything I need for her, so please just let me know we have made sure to do a lot of research which as been about a year. I now think we are ready. thanks so much. I want her to live a long time

I don't know much about heating pads, I mean I don't know if it will heat the substrate you are using which is calci sand. I use an under tank heater to heat my calci-sand (which many people don't recommend, the calci sand that is) for my adult, the juveniles and babies are on sand until they reach adulthood. My under tank heater is placed on one side of the tank and the other side is the cool side. If it does heat sufficiently then all you need is some mealworms, crickets, calcium and vitamins.... oh and the gecko :)

$45 is a decent price for an adult gecko.

hmm if i where either of you i'd get them off the calci-sand ASAP, and put them on papertowel of tile,sand espesially calci sand is very bad for leos and can cause impaction, which leads to death, if you want to use sand..use washed playsand, calci sand doesnt dissolve and causes the geckos to lick it, they cant break the sand down so they end up dieing

UTH's should be kept at one side of the tank which is the warm side, the humid hide should be placed on the side that its on, and make sure you get a thermoastat with it to control the temps

i URGE you to remove the calci sand
 
Where would I find playsand?
When you mean washed playsand, what do you mean, just rinse it out or use some kind of bleach solution or what?

You can get playsand at Home Depot. Just put the sand in a small bucket and add water until the sand is submerged. Then just swish it around, dump the water and let it dry. I wouldn’t use any type of sand but if you do use caution.

What is the difference between playsand and Calci-sand?
 
The difference is that calci-sand has calcium in it, and supposedly the leo or other reptile can lick it for a source of calcium where playsand has no calcuim. Also, I think the grains of playsand are smaller and finer than calci sand. Hope this helps,

Grant’s got the first part of the question, but there’s more. The other part is the size of the grains. The playsand is a lot finer than the calci-sand. If you’re going to use sand use the finest possible, but I still don’t recommend it.
 
I was at Petco the other day and there was a display tank set-up with sand that looked so fine, I just had to reach in and touch it, there weren't any reptiles in the tank, only sand and a few plants.

The sand was very fine indeed, it felt kind of like a powder, that's how fine it was. Would this be okay eventhough I know many of you don't recommend any type of sand? It is a calcium sand, I don't remember the brand but they do have it for sale at Petco.

Was the sand called Vita-Sand made by Zoo Med? As far as the size of the grains it sounds good but I don’t like the idea of it being calcium sand. It will just entice the gecko to eat more of it because of the calcium.

I'm not sure if Zoo Med is the brand. I would have to go back to Petco in a few days then I'll be able to say. I think it might have been Vita-sand or something but I can't say for sure.

Now I understand why people say to use playsand instead of calcium sand! Because the calcium in the sand will entice the gecko to eat more it it. Gotcha.
