    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I spent days planning and putting new sod in my yard. I woke up about three this morning to find raccoons in the yard. They had rolled half of it up. So frustrating. All the hard work I did myself instead of paying someone else to do. I was proud of how it turned out. What a mess they made. My wife is going to pickup some live traps today but I have to admit my thoughts reflected back on the armadillo lamp picture I posted for Laura sometime back.

I remember in basic we were told by the Drills that blood made the grass grow green. Don't see any reason why racoon blood wouldn't work.

I have the problem of armidillos here . They tear up everything. I've been promising Laura an armidillo with a small hole for a lamp but usually by the time I'm grabbing a gun its " big boom boom " time.
 
Dennis, raccoons are very delicious when prepared properly. :thumbsup:

We've had more trouble this year with raccoons than we've ever had, the "yard dog" normally keeps them well under control, but she just can't keep up this year. My son has caught several in the live trap, but I think they have gotten wise to it now, and are sitting out in the grove giggling and pointing at me.

It's called a shotgun. Nothing repels raccoons all that well. They are aggressive and pretty much fearless.

The only good thing about the rabies epizootic in the northeast in the 1990's when I lived up there was the near eradication of local raccoons. The bad part was that skunks filled their niche to a large extent.

Jim O, laughing my you know what off. Yes, Virginia, there is an effective way to discourage raccoons.

Wow Dennis, I'm so sorry to hear of your "coon" trouble. Since my move here, I have only seen one, and it was road kill.

I have seen the damage that armadillo's cause, it's really nasty! They can dig up and destroy months of hard work and planting over night.

And yes! A coon lamp would be just lovely! :dgrin: Just thing how nice it could look.as a lamp with a piece of sod in it's grubby little mitts.

Same here.

While Jim's solution works it's not an option in my neighborhood. But, I'm amazed by the quality of Beeman and Gamo!
I have had the privilege of testing products from both companies the last couple of evenings. Their particular products have come a long way since I last used one as a boy. The Gamo at 1600 fps is enough for my needs.

LOL Dennis, give me a Crosman 760, and I'll never go hungry. In all seriousness, you can pick off raccoons 'till the cows come home, but another one will just take it's place. If you use a shotgun, the loud blast will keep them away for a while, maybe 30 minutes.

Then, if you don't feel like shooting coons all night (possibly you have a day job), you have to go to bed.

As soon as you leave, they are right back at it.

The best way to control them is when the whole neighborhood agrees on a raccoon control program. If there is not a lot of stuff around that attracts them, they won't bother you as much.

Everyone putting their garbage in raccoon proof containers is a good start.
 
BTW, I have not seen the Gamo pea shooters, but I have used the Beemans, and they are awesome.

LoL, that's the truth.
My sod is starting to connect and set in. It shouldn't be much longer.
I took someone’s advice and stuck chicken wire down on the ends to make it harder to pull up. It helps a little.

Yep, and I pulled several all-nighters.
 
I been real busy and haven't had as much time to post as normal but those dang coons are back this year in full force. I'm in the process of building a new rat room and the darn things broke in a screen in one of the windows and opened four tubs in one rack. I screwed up and left two bunnies in a run overnight and they slaughtered them. I hate coons. I know they are doing what they have to but I'm tired of them.
 
Of course out here where I live we just set out a pan of dog food within close shotgun range of a shed for a few days to get them used to it then spend a night or two on the shed roof picking them off, or for the most difficult/smart ones we set old jaw traps, but since this is not an option for crowded areas.
