In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rack/Cage building...

Originally posted by KelliH Just to make sure I understood what you were planning on doing, you are going to run the heat tape vertically down the back of the shelf, correct? If that is so then you will definitely need to use the higher wattage 11" tape. I have had racks over the years that had the 3" run down the back and it never got warm enough to heat the back end of the enclosure to 90 degrees.

I wish I wasn't so carpentry challenged so I could build my own racks. [/B]

Thanks Kelli, right that's what I'm doing, heat down the back. I figured that would work, but i like to have confirmation about what I'm doing.

As far as carpentry challenged, I built this thing on an impulse. I decided what I wanted to do, and just went with it. I had a handy dandy guy friend come over and help but I know I could have done it myself. Sometimes you just have to let the men folk think that you're helpless and need them LoL, ;) I did the same thing when I built my dual tank back in jan/feb? I combined a 20L tank and a 10gal tank together. If you really want to do it, it's possible. But then again, you should spend all your time creating those gorgeous babies of yours and I'll have my few fatty babies and build my own stuff. LoL. Thanks for the input.

Overton, thanks for your post! I am now sure I know what to do, thanks guys!!

Do I get a sense that there may be a new male in your life? (and im not talking about the guy who helped you)?

I plan to make a rack or two this month, I wanting to use 4 containers per row say 17-21 qts each and have 3 rows high per rack. Does that sould good for use of one thermostat and that many contianers in one unit will it hold up?
Thanks

If the rack ar say 13'' wide that would be a need 52'' SOUNDS TOO long? :( what do you recommaned as the longest the shelves can be?
xavier

If your using 3/4" than it's probably ok, but if your using 1/2" I would cut it down to three to a shelf and just add another shelf to the top. It just depends on how the full sheet pans out. If you have enough material left use it if you have to buy another whole sheet ?????
good luck!

and remember!
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

If you need to buy supplies to make a rack I recomend using the same method Rich Ihle(Samon Boa) or Mike(Basically Boas) use. They use peg board and 2 X 4's. You frame in the peg board so it does not sag. You can go all the way to the ceiling using this method. The holes prevent over heating. As soon as I need to make any new racks this is the method I will use. It also works great for cages. As my CHE's are buring out I am switching to 11" flexwatt rack cages also. It is what they use for there breeding cages for boas.

sorry
!:2gunsfiri :(

I ment, If you have enough left over from a full 4x8' sheet add another shelf, It will be higher but you'll get your extra tubs that way! But if you have buy a whole sheet and your are going to only need a little from that sheet, than its kinda up to you? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty, some
are dull, some have weird names, and
all are different colors but they all
have to learn to live in the same box.

is a back wall needed? I mean you could say alot of would if not. I bought 24 15qt contianers and plan on makign 2 racks home depto sells 3/4'' for 26 bucks for a 4 x 8.

The problem with not having a back is that it will not have any side to side support and will be very unstable, unless you attach it to a wall or use cables crossing from top to bottom left to right in a "X" Pattern.
What I would do (kinda like bryan said) is use pegboard on the back for ventalation and support.

Eat a live toad in the morning and nothing
worse will happen to you for the rest of the day.

thats that brown board with the wholes all over right? Whould the same screws works ( dry wall screws ) also shoudl I get a certain thickness? I always seem them only about .25'' thick

You can go all the way to the ceiling using this method.

would that be with one peg board with all units that are stacked on top of each other, or each one having there own peg board and it isn't shared with other units on top or below it ?

Im not sure what your saying?
But, If I were doing it I would use a full sheet (or as close as possible) of "Tempered" 1/4 pegboard on the back. And I would make it so that "if" I wanted to move it I could.

Just to give an example of what I meant, if one rack was 2' H and 4' wide and I stacked a second one on top of is I would have a 4' H x 4'W unit. Would I have two 2 x 4' peg boards or just one 4 x 4 connecting both rack together. How woul you put it to the back so you could remove it later if needed?

well personaly I think 2' high is kinda low! So I would make it four foot or six foot just to make it more solid and easier, plus I know that I would eventually use all the space anyway. Depending on your space?
Actualy I would make it around six foot range (depending on the sizes of the tubs)
That way I could look into all the tubs and would utilize the space more efficently.

Drive carefully. It's not only cars that
can be recalled by their maker.

it was just an example, I just wanted to know if I should use a single peg board for all racks stacked on top of each other or use one for each rack. As of right now my two rakc will be 45.75'' and I'll stack atleast another later I only need 2 racks right now do.
