They are a wide spread asian rat, and no they won't breed to new world rats.

Genetics. A human won't breed to a gorilla, either, despite being close in genes.

Condescending? She was providing a comparable example that most would understand.

As far as the hybrids themselves, I ran a search and came up empty. If you have reference that both crosses have been successful, please post the resource. Never been much into hybrids myself, but some of them are pretty interesting looking.

Show me a gorilla-human hybrid baby then.

Humans have 46 chromosomes. Gorillas have 48. Thus, a human sex cell has 23 chromosomes whereas a gorilla one have 24. They won't pair up and thus won't produce offspring. I'm sorry you feel I was being condescending, in the internet age it's hard to judge people's tone. However if you have proof to the contrary of what I said, by all means show me, as it'd likely be a groundbreaking scientific discovery.
