Ramses-Pearl Baby Profiles (2015-B)

Living Gems Reptiles is pleased to finally profile the babies from its 2015 “B” litter.

Born on November 11, 2015 to Ramses (a September 2010 hypo male with an impeccable pedigree: his great-grandsnakes were the founder animals of the line, and he traces down directly by Michael Lockwood’s own hands)…

Sire

…and Pearl (a highly outcrossed July 2010 het female noted for her strong orange color and a small “pearl” mark in her center head line)…

Dam

…this litter represents the first pairing of these two animals.

The 19 babies in this litter split heavily towards the morph side, with twelve full hypos and seven hets. The gender split was more even, with ten males and nine females (with an almost perfect 50/50 split for each group). The babies got the best of both parents, with the hypos and het displaying huge orange potential. Interestingly, Pearl’s “pearl” proved to be an inherited trait, with about a third of the little ones showing a variant of the mark.

All have now shed twice (except two), eaten six-ish times, and had “confirmation” their digestion is properly working. As has been outlined in previous posts, all of these babies come from a disease-tested facility.

As with all LGR litters, we’ve done dozens of handling sessions for each baby, part of our commitment to start acclimating them to humans.

Over the following posts, please find a short profile of every baby in the litter. For each, a short description is provided, noting any behavioral or physical quirks, along with a selection of photos showing their development over the first two sheds. For dorsal chains, “short” means two to three linked spots, and “long” mean four or more.

Baby #01 (Het Male)

This sharp little lad has eight short dorsal chains on his back. His sides are perfect thin crescents, with two on each side forming “stretched” crescents.

Baby #02 (Het Male)

This small guy is almost the mirror of his brother above, with eight short dorsal chains on his back. He shows some blushing within his back spots. His sides are slightly more varied, with his otherwise uniform thin crescents punctuated by two eclipses and one merged spot on his left side. He has unusual linking between some of his belly black and side circles.

Baby #03 (Hypo Male)

This tiny gent bears the pearl head mark of his mother, but in miniature. He has four short and three long dorsal chains on his back. His sides are mostly rich fat crescents, but tending bullseye, with one bullseye, one pearl, and two merged spots on his right; and another four bullseyes and merged spot (containing two more bullseyes!) on his left. He is quite the explorer, and during the grading process kept trying to sneak off and check out everyone else’s digs (“Look! You have your in-home pool in the back!”).

Baby #04 (Hypo Male)

This little lad bears the pearl head mark of his mother. He has six short and one long dorsal chains on his back. His back also has a small black dot. His sides are mostly rich fat crescents, with two merged and one stretched spot on his right; and two fragments, one merged, and one stretched spot on his left.

This small guy has five short and three long dorsal chains on his back. His sides are uniform crescents, except for a lonely bullseye and merged spot on his right.

Baby #06 (Hypo Male)

This tiny gent bears the pearl head mark of his mother, but in miniature. He has six short dorsal chains on his back. His back also has a small black wedge. His sides are uniform crescents, the only baby in the litter without some type of variant spot.

This little lass bears the pearl head mark of her mother. She has a whopping nine short and one long dorsal chains on her back. Her sides are mostly crescents, with one merged spot on her right and one fragment and three merged spots on her left.

This small gal has an interesting broken head pattern. She has only two short dorsal chains on her back. Her sides are mostly crescents, with one pearl, one merged, and one stretched spot on her right; and two merged spots on her left.

Baby #11 (Het *Probable* Female)

This little lass has a whopping nine short and one long dorsal chains on her back. Her sides are mostly crescents, with one stretched spot on her right and three merged and one stretched spot on her left. (Note that I thought I detected “junk” during one sexing session, but numerous repeated attempts have not borne that out. I therefore cannot 100% guarantee this baby’s gender.)

Baby #12 (Hypo Female)

This small gal has only two short dorsal chains on her back. Her dorsal spots, however, are of widely mixed sizes; and she has two small black dots on her back. Her sides are consistent crescents, except for one eclipse and two fragments on her left side. She took an early dislike to the evil spray bottle, which she valiantly attacked at every opportunity before deciding it was more ladylike to sit and bear it with stoic resignation.

Baby #13 (Hypo Male)

This small guy is the pattern king of the litter, and a probable holdback. His uniqueness starts with a cool forked center line on his head. It continues with three short and six huge dorsal chains on his back. It finishes with his sides, which are a mixture of fat crescents and solid bullseyes, with eleven bullseyes and one pearl between them. He was curious during the grading process, and kept popping up his tiny head to watch me and the other babies.

Baby #14 (Hypo Female)

This tiny lady bears a streeeeetched head mark of her mother, more of a long oval than a pearl. She has six short dorsal chains on her back, punctuated by a small black dot. She also has a faint black center line tracing down the center of her spine. Her sides are mostly crescents, with one merged spot on her right; and one fragment, one merged, and one stretched spot on her left.

Baby #15 (Het Male)

This tiny gent has six short and four long dorsal chains on his back. He also has a *tiny* orange spot nestled in among the larger normal spots. His sides are uniform crescents, except for one merged and one stretch spot on his left. He was the feisty one of his litter for the first few weeks, and never saw a finger he could not shred; but has long settled into the same stoic tolerance as his sister.

Baby #16 (Het Female)

This little lass takes top color and combines it with several unique pattern traits from her siblings. Like her brother #13, she has a cool forked center line on her head. She has five short and four long dorsal chains on her back. To this, she adds the *tiny* orange spot of her brother #15, the faint black center line of her sister #14, and the unusual linking between belly black and side circles of her brother #02. Her sides are mostly crescents, with three fragments on her right and one stretched spot on her left.

Baby #17 (Hypo Female)

This little lass has a three short and one long dorsal chains on her back. She also has a faint black center line tracing down the center of her spine. Her sides are mostly crescents, with two bullseyes, four pearls, and one “reverse” bullseye on her right; and two fragments on her left. For a usually tame little girl, she was feisty during grading night. Apparently being gender-checked is not all that dating guides suggest.
