RAPTOR vs. APTOR

bit confused about to buy a pair of geckos, he states they're RAPTORS, but black eyed, now i'm told raptors sometimes can have black eyes or eclipse eyes, but i'm confused, he says raptors, i say possible aptor (het raptor) one of the first things he told me was they will have babies with red eyes, (with some luck) so that's wha tmakes me think het, either way 150 for the pair and i just have to go pick them up which i am pretty sure is a great deal but your thoughts?

RAPTOR stands for "Red-Eye Albino Patternless Raptor Orange." So with that said, a RAPTOR must have red eyes to be a RAPTOR. An APTOR however does not have red eyes and would instead of "Eclipse" (black) eyes.

therefore would be APTOR and possibly het RAPTOR since he said with some luck i'll have babies with red eyes.

I honestly don't know if "Red-Eye" or "Eclipse" was ever proven simple recessive, so I can not answer that question.

$150 for a true APTOR pair does sound like a (too?) good deal to me, esp. if they are het red-eye (if there is such a thing, I dont know the proven genetics of this new trait either). On a somewhat side note, though, why do I keep seeing RAPTORs and APTORs, which are suppossed to carry the Paternless gene, with patterns? Including the ones pictured in the original post.....

not Patternless Raptor Orange

You're correct, Lisa. It was early and my fingers weren't typing what my brain was thinking.

As for the pattern in the APTOR/RAPTOR Patternless...It was my understanding that it is different from the true recessive Patternless...This is why some are calling Patternless "Murphy Patternless" now. You are right though...Dunno why they'd use the word "Patternless" when they really aren't Patternless...Maybe it was the only thing that started with a "P" relating to geckos that he could think of.

So a RAPTOR x "classic" or "Murphy" Patternless would yield leos with all reduced patterning as seen in the aptor/raptors, all het "Murphy's" Patternless?
Sounds like a clear case of "clever" marketing winning over an accurate description of the merchandise.....Sigh!
I wonder what the Consumer Protection folks would say about that

I'm not sure if the RAPTOR "Patternless" inheritance has ever proven as anything specific either, but essentially yes; RAPTOR x Patternless will not produce Patternless offspring.

Well the male i am getting isn't big enough to breed but the female is more than and was wanting to so he put her in with his actual RAPTOR and in 20sec she was receptive and he sent me these pics

that male is def. a raptor look at the eyes, hopefuly it took , it is a bit late in the season and will be her first clutch but just incase i'm getting everythign ready hopefully gonna pick up the orig. 2 sat or monday.
