Aesthetics are certainly in the eye of the beholder but have you ever considered how many truly beautiful invertebrates there are out there?
Consider for example the legendary Chrysina (formerly Plusiotis) gloriosa beetle, a metallic scarab garbed in metallic green and silver chrome. Or Cotalpa consobrina, another metallic scarab wrapped in gold with a blue sheen to the toe tips much like a P. murinus tarantula.
Or consider the centipedes Scolopendra heros castaneiceps with a purple body, red head, and yellow legs. Or maybe Scolopendra heros arizonensis, bright orange with yellow legs and a purple head, rarely seen in the wild let alone on the market.
Beautiful, perhaps not to some, but the vinegaroon is perhaps one of the most interesting invertebrates and among the hardiest and longest lived.
Why doesn't everyone have these?
The problem is that they are rarely on the market.
