Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Ray's Reptilia- BAD guy

Something I noticed

This will not be defending Ray's Reptilia in any way. I did some research and according to Robbie Hamper's book The Crested Gecko in Captivity , there are still some people that believe temperature sexing is possible. I don't believe that Ray was selling his crested's confident in the sex, more likely just looking for bulges, and knowing that "females" would sell better. Good Luck finding bulges on a 5 month old male. One thing I noticed here was a mistake made by the buyer. It clearly states in one of the e-mails recieved from Ray
They are 5 months old, 5 inches long...
If you knew you can't temp sex cresteds, then why buy ones that are 5 inches? I feel that $330 shipped was a ridiculous price for three 5 inch cresteds. I also feel that until one proves to be a male, you can't ask to return them. You got 3 temp sexed cresteds, all female. You were aware of the fact that they would only be 5 months old and 5 inches long. At this point,
they are exactly what you ordered
Your approach should have been to seek a refund if one turns out to be a male. Of course we can't be sure that he would have cared, either way. I still think it is wrong to claim that you can temp sex them without proof, but if one (Ray) is going to be bold enough to claim to know the sex of a 5 inch crested, he better be able to back it up with a replacement if he's wrong. I am very interested to see what sex they all turn out to be. I personally would not settle for even one male without a continued action against Ray. Posting on Fauna in a slow but sure way to collapse someone's business. I wouldn't bother threatening "legal action." It is expensive, time consuming, and will probably not get you anywhere. I am sorry to hear that you paid $330 dollars for three 5 inch cresteds, but until one of those babies turn out to be males, there is nothing you can do. I think that a 33% restocking fee is a little steep and he should have let you return the geckos based on satisfaction alone. We try very hard to keep all of our customers satisfied, and sometimes we will go to great lengths to do so. Ray seems to show little concern for anyone's satisfaction but his own. Good Luck with your geckos Kati.

Its a game called

A toss of the coin when you buy geckos that small and expect to know the sex of the animal with certainty. Assuming that 6 months from now one of these geckos turns out to be a male, go prove that this was the gecko that was actually shipped when you received them as a baby! NOT POSSIBLE! at least thats what Rays Reptilia would say. I doubt at the rate that he is going, he would even be around 6 months from now.

Its not a question of being wrong to advertise that these geckos were Temp Sexed its robbery ! I have never heard of anyone purchasing baby cresteds at that price even if it were remotely possible to sex the geckos. Thats the only way Rays Reptilia would be able to get away with this kind of a scam, and its unfortunate that he found an unsuspecting buyer.

You can imagine that Rays Reptilia has not provided the simplist courtesy in responding, and yet their maybe some believers out their that he should be notified if one of those cresteds turn out to be a male ! Wheres the logic in that.

I have incubated all of mine at room temperature, which has been for me in the low to mid 70's. I have had mostly females, but certainly not enough to call it a science. Could be luck of the draw for all I know.

Maybe it's me

Could you explain, in different words, what you meant by this? I'm a little confused. I agree with you 100% that his price on baby cresteds, even if they were females, was out of control. The problem is that Kati knew they were going to be 5" and went through with the purchase anyway. With so many people out there trying to get something for nothing, we need to practice and preach more and more about "buying smart." I'm sure a lot of you read my thread on the Reptile Ranch and that whole charade. I dream of a day when we CAN'T post on and on about even more people that are ripping everyone off, LOL. It would be nice if, as buyers, and even as a seller, we got a little more support from the website these predators are using. I saw someone mention that there is a three complaint rule with Kingsnake, can you tell me more about this? I havn't heard about it before. Thanks

First off, one of the three geckos was much smaller than the other two. Kati made this clear in her email back to Ray. Second, she was clearly not happy with them at all. Now I do not know about everyone else, but with me (IMO) if a customer is clearly not happy with the animal/animals they receive from me, then it is up to me to make it right. What, is this ok, if you get something from someone and your not happy, then your just stuck? Well IMO it shows real poor business at best to tell a customer they are stuck with something they clearly do not want. Third, she also said in her email that the gecko did not match the pictures, Ray's reply was "they are just what you ordered". Ray has been well known for using pictures of animals that are not the same as offered. As well as using pictures that did not even belong to him. Misrepresenting reptiles IMO is scamming. If you buy an animal that is not the one shown in the picture, and you are given the impression it is. Than it is a scam cut and dry!! I deal a bunch in reptiles, and it is not hard to tell the truth. The question is how good is the people's word your are dealing with. As the old saying goes: (the proof is in the pudding).

Thank you all for responding

Thanks for your replies :)

Two of these babies are not even 4 1/2 inches long, and one is 3 1/2 inches long. I should have erred on the side of caution with him saying 5", but I do breed cresteds and have juvis around that size that have bulges. Ray did not pull the "temperature-sexed" line on me until after I purchased them. If he would have, the sale would have been cancelled immediately.

Also, Ray is still using the same pictures of the geckos I "bought" in classifieds he has since posted.

To be honest with you, I have been ripped off before. I have never posted on the BOI until now. But, I think people need to know about this guy and his tactics.

I don't think $325 is too much for 3 female cresteds shipped, especially since I thought he was using DHL. I have invested a lot of money in my colony, and I was happy with the price. I don't buy wholesale, only from private breeders.

I am not planning on suing Ray. I was angry at the time, but don't have the money or the time to do so. If Ray were a responsible business owner, he would have let me return them, and I would not have posted on the BOI.

I agree that once the babies are older Ray will deny they are the same ones and I won't get my money back even if they all turn out male. It does make me feel better to get the word out about what happened though.

I will e-mail Kingsnake about getting him reprimanded in some way, as well as on reptilemarket.com.

Thanks,
Kati

This should come as no surprise to anyone. He always uses the same picture for multiple animals. It also would not surprise me if all of his CB are actually WC.

I quarantine all of my new reptiles and give them two doses of Panacur and Metronidazole (two weeks apart) as a precaution. I think they probably are CB, but given how irresponsible Ray is acting about this situation, I plan to send stool samples to the vet after treatment just to make sure.

Kati, I would say that would be wise. As for Ray, he has played this game for a long time and you are not the first to fall into his trap of deception. We can only hope others will read this tread before doing any deals with him.
Kati, if you post on reptile auction feedback forums on the tread that is already there, I will request that the moderator move the thread to bad guys. I will also be more than happy to give full support there as well. :)

Wow! So glad that I usually check the BOI before I do any purchasing from someone I don't know. I was just looking at some Balls he has for sale and was considering getting one but decided I'd better check here first. WON'T BUY NOW!

Thanks Kati for starting this thread. :)

I think the BOI is the best, most useful, forum thread out there.

Ray,
How does it feel to lose business? :uzi: :uzi: Another one bites the dust.

This is my first post here but I thought it would be appropriate for this thread.

I come in here frequently and read all the posts. It's very interesting and very informative.

I recently saw some corn snakes for sale in the classifieds. I was going to contact the person, until I saw who it was, Raysreptilia. I am so glad I was aware of this thread. I'll hang on to my hard earned cash until I find a seller with more integrity.

Ray's Reptilia--BAD GUY

I paid $305 two Cal Kings and 2 albino Nelsons from Ray of Ray’s Reptilia. Twice we confirmed via phone that they would arrive at my house and I needed to have someone there to sign for them. They didn’t arrive on time.

I called to see that they had been held at a FedEx hub and hour and a half away. I was never informed of this. I left my job to pick them up, and three FedEx workers watched me pull out four dead and very smelly snakes. I had picked them up within 24 hours of initial ship time, yet the animals smelled as if they had been dead for days. Decay of that progression does not occur so rapidly.

I am convinced that he knowingly sent me dead animals. Ray will not honor the terms of his agreement and send me replacements or refund my money. I believe that he refuses to abide by his own terms because he knew in the first place I would be getting his deceased stock, I live 800 miles away, and he could make up any story he liked.

Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your problems with Ray. There's another thread about Ray in these very same page where you could have added your experience. That way it will be easy for readers to find. Anyways, why don't you post the FedEx tracking info as well as your e-mail exchange with them? BTW, welcome to the BOI! :)

Regards.

Once again Rayminator strikes. When will this cheat ever quit?

Aw Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. As Dan said, there is at least one other thread already running about Ray's Reptilia on here....definitely NOT one of the good guys in this industry.

Glad to hear it, Lee. :)

Yet another thread was started on Ray today......boy, I sure wish EVERYONE would check the BOI before buying from this guy!!!!

Sorry Lisa,
You are correct, about not abiding to his ever-changing TOS. Here, a few links to view.
