In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Record keeping and good sofware?

Hi Fauna!
I was just wondering what kind of software, if any, you guys use to keep track of your collections. I'm not the pen and paper kind of person, I'd like to have all the fields right there in front of me to fill out. So, what's some of the best software out there for reptiles? I tried Metzcal, but it's geared towards snakes, and i'm more of a gecko person.

Thanks in advance!

I use two methods. I have Degei software and I also use spreadsheets that I set up in Excel.

There are some things that I want to do that Degei just doesnt offer me.... and there are some things that I haven't figured out how to make my spreadsheets do yet.

I haven't found a perfect solution for me just yet... but Im working on it.

What particularilly are you looking to do?

I'm old fashioned, and i have a notebook for each snake i have, with their feeding, cleaning, water, etc records in them. Once my laptop comes back from being repaired, i'm definitely going to look into actually moving into the 21st century, and do my record keeping on my computer:D

Currently, I use Vyper. I have gone the spreadsheet route and note book route. I have used Metzcal and it crashed on me. Then I used Degei, and lost the data when my computer was involved in a fire.

There is no perfect software, I learned to make do. :)

Same here! I have a binder for each species, and write down pretty much everything from aquisition dates, feedings, sheds (or molts), matings, suppliments/medications given, and (hopefully) soon, egg laying. I like writing it down, because the binders are always up on the shelf when I need them, but sometimes my computer acts up and doesn't want to cooperate. I don't use it very often either, since I use my phone to post on here, and for everything else I do online. Also, I think i'd have a hard time finding a program right for me and what I need it for. But I suppose when I get a more reliable computer, I will probably transfer all my stuff to it, but until then, pen and paper work just fine for me. ;)

I really wanted to use Vyper. I loved the trial. The gecko version of it is not for sale, though. I do have a friend looking into getting a hold of a version of it for me.

So i'm giving Degei a try in the meantime. We'll see how this works! :) Thanks everyone.

One of the reasons why I got the Vyper this time around was because of the external memory to use for back up.

When you back up Deigei on an external memory thingy, it doesn't open in another computer. I was stuck on one computer without the flexiblity that I needed. I needed to be able to work on my files from any computer including my laptop. ;)

I don't risk saoftware crashing on me so i just use GOOGLE DOCUMENTS it's fairly simple to learn how to use and you can access it from any computer or mobile smart device, especially easier if you have a google account and no need to worry about google crashing ;) ... Good luck

A little late in the game but we just started using Degei for our collection & so far it seems to be working great. I have it on our desktop & laptop & use a flash drive to move backup files from computer to computer. I've been using Excel spreadsheets too but I didn't realize how much extra effort was involved even with that. You can do a whole lot with a few clicks in Degei.

Regards,
