• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

  • IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!! About the Google Adsense ads being displayed

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Info [email protected] 'scrapmetal' aka Fred Wilson

Are you referring to me calling him a scammer ?If so I do apologize I just was looking out for the other sellers the guy sent me fake money order looking for me to deposit it and send a third party a Walmart money order please tell me how I should go about this in future.

No, a scammer is what a person who runs scams is, so I have no issue with calling a scammer a scammer (like a person who flies a plane is a pilot). The dirt bag, scumbag, and bastard stuff needs to cease, however, and multiple people have been making those comments.

Understood I deleted all my messages trying to erase my adress but do recall saying dirt... I'm sorry it will not happen again Thank you BillySr

Scam

I got exactly the some offer from scrap metal like you. He sent me a fake check for 1,750. Price for my torts is 6,000. I told him something is wrong. He said sorry it's mistake. Deposit this 1,750 to bank keep200 and sent me back 1,550 walmart to walmart to Springfield OR for name Joseph Johnson and once I recive $ I will sent to you 6,000. Ha ha what an idiot is this guy?

I received a similar email today. Slightly different email address but same content almost to the word, and the address looks like it could be some derivative of the original one: [email protected]

I attached the email. It reads like the same person. I could be wrong, but if the guy is emailing stuff out again, I'm sure he will try a few different ways.

The best you can do with these scammers is give them the run around. Ask for the info to deposit the money you owe them that they "overpaid" and pretend like your actually at the bank deposting the money. I can't stand these people, especially those that target the reptile community.

Yep, same guy contacted me about the Phyllobates terribilis group that I posted. The exact same messages he sent to you guys. Said that his assistant overpaid me and that he needed X amount back, via WalMart to WalMart transfer.

Straight from the guy:

"Here is the details you need to have my balance sent via wall mart to wall mart transfer and get back to me with the reference number and total amount sent after charges RECEIVER'S NAME :JOHNSON JOSEPH CITY : SPRINGFIELD STATE : OREGON ZIP CODE :97477 COUNTRY...USA"

Just wanted to get that block of text out there, if it can be used by anyone. Also, his number he was texting me through was 708-467-9137, and his email [email protected]

You would think they could ban him from website

pssst...all known accounts were already banned, but thanks for the suggestion.

The problem continues, in part, because members repeatedly put their emails/phone numbers in their ads for the whole world to see. So... guess what happens? It works! The whole world does see it, including this particular scammer. If people would start using Fauna's Private Message system, about half of this garbage would be cut out.

Exactly Robert

Our esteemed mr H Moore himself advised me long ago to just lock all my for sale posts so anybody seriously interested HAS to use the private message system to get my attention and I can weigh them up from there.
I would not be including my tel number or an email in any for sale ads even though I have nothing to hide but potentially a lot to lose!

This guy / these types tend to aim for low-hanging fruit, too. If things can be copied and pasted versus having some conversion from alphabetical to numerical characters (as one example), they go for them. It is less efficient for them to put more work into the process (not that they will never do so, but that is de-emphasized in priority assignment). Their messages are typically copied and pasted from form text as well. Besides not including some types of information, at least make it "work" for parties to use that information if you feel you must include it. These guys tend to throw the same model of lure out in large volumes. Tailoring different lures for different fish is not their norm.
