In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Repti bid .com

Yep, and full of idiots

I 'sold' one of my leopard geckos on there to 'GeckoMan', who never emailed or replies to my emails. Hopefully the other auctions he's bid on will block him from winning, or they'll lose their sales as well.

Just looking around the gecko and leopard gecko section there, you can tell it's full of scam artists or bad/sick animals. I don't recommend it at this time. Perhaps when they start charging for their services it will clean up a bit.

I was able to contact someone affiliated with the website by using thier 'chat' function, but he wasn't very helpful. I emailed them a couple days ago about 'Geckoman', but his bids are still there for other auctions and I have yet to receive a reply.

A reply from ReptiBid.com

I am sorry if anyone has had problems during these last few days with the ReptiBid system. Last week we moved ReptiBid.com from a server provider on the east coast to a much better provider in San Francisco that has promised us 99.99% uptime. The move to a larger server and a better provider was necessary due to the increased traffic we have been receiving during these last few weeks. We moved 3 sites at the same time and we had several unexpected problems during the move that may have caused problems for some of our members. The entire site was off line for around 30 hours. Our email system went off line for around 3 days. Some members also had problems up loading pictures to Reptibid durring the last several days. A few members may still not be connecting to our new site servers because their local Internet Service Provider (ISP) has not up-dated their own DNS information with our new IP information. This is something only your local ISP can do. This DNS up-date can take several days depending on your local ISP. The ReptiBid system is now up and running at 100% and had several hundred new visitors on it's first day back on line. An email will go out soon to all our members explaining this move. I am very sorry for any problems this server move may have caused our members.

Also concerning the other issue, the very young member that caused some of the problems pointed out by TheVipersHouse has been banned from the site since Tuesday of last week.

well thanks for the update and im glad that the young person has been banned but was there steps taken to prevent it from happening again ? or at least made it more difficult for them to register ? i honestly hope it all goes well and everything gets in order cause it seems like it would be a nice place to use but so far its been rough and left a bad taste in mouths all over im sure ... well glad to hear your back up now i can check on my auctions lol i hope it all goes well and things remain hassle free

I'm just curious about the rules of the auction site myself. I have not and most likely will not buy anything from the site because of the way auctions are posted. Let me explain a bit. You have auctions listed on the site that are selling "1" ball python yet the ad itself states they have 30+. Also you have auctions listed and in the ad the seller has posted that he no longer has the animal(s) available. If the animals are not available then why the hell are they still posted for sale? These are signs of not being a reputable and trustworthy place to buy animals because if simple things like this are not controlled (having the product your selling at least!) then what recourse do I have if someone rips me off and doesn't send me what I paid for? Absolutely none.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to work towards controlling your site more like ebay does with the same type of rules and procedures. More people would trust buying from the site that way.

Just my two cents.

nice to point that out corey..if anyone will do a feedback search on that seller you will find a ring of 3 or 4 screen names paying rediciulos prices.then do a feedback search on those 3 or 4 names e and you will find a common thing..it's the same 3 or 4 on all feedback for all of them.all great animals, all great prices, all great service..then look at the feedback times..i personaly find it very hard to believe that all of these people left 20 or 30 feedbacks in a time frame of less than an hour when the winning auctions were scattered over days ???? reptibid has been notified of this from several people on the site that smell 1 rat but nothing has been done and no replies from reptibid..also 13 days after beign notified of the 9 yr old boy he still had ads placed..sure hope no one sent him money..with stuff like this allowed it makes the site look bad.i personaly hate to bash them because i am curently using them about half way..i cannot get the site to work properly and can get no answers from them..i think it would be a great site if there was a little more effort put into it..i have had ok luck with it..about 50% of the people really have paid and what i have bought i have received nice well represented animals..they are a fairly new site and one can expect problems..i will stick it out with them and hope it gets better and they develope some kind of communication with there customers..

Reptile auctions...

I was gonna post this somewhere else, but since it was mentioned here, thought this would be ok.

I visited reptileauction.com and they had hardly any animals available (but very nice site). I used to visit herpauction, but they don't seem to be around anymore. I visit Repti-Bid, alot of animals, but I feel most are scams.

Is there any real desire from the buyers and sellers for a serious auction for reptiles and supplies (similar to Ebay)? Where you have to pay a fee to post, and bidders must enter real information to register?

Just curious.

I believe a well run reptile auction site, done properly, has the potential to make money, and would be used by many once it was established.
So far though, there has never been such a site started that meets that description.

Confirmed age and identity needs to be the first rule of posting. Many of these auctions are, for all intents and purposes, posted by anonymous individuals, and a good portion of them by kids.
Anyone under 18 cannot enter into a legally binding contract, so kids can't be allowed to buy or sell on the site. One of the sites I was checking yesterday actually states this, but it is dependant on the honesty of the poster.
It will also require alot of effort form the person(s) operating the site to maintain control and reduce the potential for scams.

Another aspect that would have to be addressed is the method of posting the auctions. Many people use it just like a classified ad, stating they will be willing to trade the animal for sale, or editing the auction before it closes stating it is sold. The latter was always a problem with HerpAuction. It has to be an auction only until the time is up. If they want to trade, to sell it early, then an auction is not the proper place.

The advertising budget for the first year would have to be large just to get the traffic going. The reptile community is quite small as compared to the potential customer base of Ebay, and an auction site with 50 regular users isn't going to fly.

As it stands now, from my perspective, there's no incentive at all for me to put an animal up for auction at either site. The traffic is low as are the potential bidders. There is also the continuous problem of non paying bidders.
There is also no incentive at all for me to bid on any auctions. The sellers are more often than not completely anonymous, and many of the ads are just plain suspicious.

Regardless of your opinion of Ebay, it is a well designed system, and it works. All of the reptile auction sites so far have been little more than playgrounds for unsupervised children.
I buy things regularly from ebay from all over the country from people I will never know and will likely never hear from again. I am for the most part secure in these transactions, and rarely worry about getting burned. I can't say the same for any of the reptile auction sites in existance.
Dealing with live animals raises the stakes, and gives all the more reason for a tightly controlled environment.
It wouldn't be an easy endeavor, especially for the first year or so, but I do believe it has potential. there's definately no competition right now should a well done auction site be started.

What a joke

I cannot believe that the webmaster of repti bid is not here trying to save his site. He spent all that money to have it in reptiles mag. and he is not defending it. I still have not herd from him and I went back to the site and went to the lost password section and it gave me my password. I then put up a item for auction with a pic. well I hit post and it came up as a error so i have to start all over again so I put the item up with out a pic and I got a diffrent error message. I spent 45 mins. trying to post a item with no luck. I then tried to e-mail him again and I got the same return e-mail that it was a permanit error and it could not be sent.

It has been suggested that I put an auction system tied to this site. I have posted a poll to get feedback concerning this idea:

FaunaAuction poll

Not saying I will do something like this, but I would like to have some feedback about it to see if it is worth considering.

Thanks.

Rich, I mentioned this to you about a year ago, I think that it would be a good sucess. Bring it on

And on a side note when i tried to put up a auction I had errors with repti auction and I guess even though there was errors the auction was still posted. I wanted to only put up 1 auction but I ended up with 4 HA hA Ha !
