    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

so I have been looking for new cages for my snakes. The two I have are constrictor northwest but don't make the ones I have anymore. What's you opinion on repti-rack cages? I was looking at them. The cages I have have double drop down doors but have heard good things about sliding. They say they can put sliding acrylic doors for an extra six bucks. Any opinions? The price seems right... Look similar to cages I have.
 
I really like the cage I have from Constrictors Northwest. They are still making their old cages right now, but eventually they won't make them anymore. You just have to pick PL classic cages from the drop down menu.

I also have one from Repti-Racks, but it isn't as easy to clean IMO.

I would not recommend sliding doors. You can only access half of the cage at a time and once you start stacking the cages, they don't slide open very easy. All of the weight presses down on the sliding doors and they get stuck.

Just my experience. I have 4 different kinds of cages and I'm planning to switch to all of one kind soon. I'm definitely going to go with the new modular cages from Constrictors Northwest.

I'm assuming that this same trick would work for you as well as it does for me with my melamine cages that I built. To clean them, I just lift the doors out. I know on my Visions it's more difficult, but I can still do it.

As far as the weight pushing down, I cut a thick dowel to the exact length of the height of the cage and placed it in the middle of the front, just behind the sliding glass doors. This supports the weight of the cages above and lets the glass slide freely. With mine, there's just enough weight that I don't have to use anything to secure it in place. Occasionally a big snake will move it, but it's easy enough to reposition.

It's NO substitution for NEW cages, but it helps for now. I'm with you on wanting to replace my "mutt stack" with nice, matching cages. I DEFINITELY am ready to get rid of the melamine (even the mixture of Vision, Boaphile, and others). They work, but well.....an old "hoopty" will get you around town, but a luxury car sure is nicer!!!! :D
 
I hadn't thought of that with a dowel, might give it a try. I have been taking the doors out to clean the cages, still a pain though lol. I would rather have a full drop down door.

Good ol' "mutt stack" lol. I hadn't heard it called that. All of mine are plastic, but some are black, some are white... They're all slightly different sizes too so they don't make a straight stack. But, I'm glad I was able to try out a few different cage types to find out the one that works best for me!
 
LOL...yeah, a "mutt stack" is what I call one of the stacks. One is all melamine, but another is a mix of gray and black. And like yours, they are all different sizes (all close, but not enough to be "straight"!)! Honestly, I don't LIKE any of them, but they're keeping my boas safe until I can get them something fancier (hopefully before Summer gets here!).
 
Have you considered Boaphiles? Both pricing and quality are good, and they have drop-down doors that you can get in one or two-part style. I also like the fact they are lightweight (but still strong) and hold humidity well.
