In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

~*~ CURRENT REPTIBID SELLERS PLEASE NOTE ~*~
This promotion is not meant to compete with our current sellers. This is a 4 day only site promotion. This promotion is only being done to increase the traffic to the site which will help our sellers sell their reptiles. Because of the expense of this promotion it will most likely never be repeated again. As You can see from the prices of the items no one is making any money on this promotion and in all cases the shipping charges alone will cost more than the item will be listed at. The only reason we are doing this promotion is to attract back the many users that may have signed up months ago when we only had a few items listed on our system.

This just amazes me.

Well wouldn't you know it... both the "sponsors" have the same physical address and one of them even uses reptibid as his email address.

So reptibid is asking its users to support reptibid's sponsors... reptibid. No competition here right?

13,000 registered users also seems inflated, even working off a premise that more than half the login names are people bidding on their own auctions and leaving feedback for themselves.

i got the same BS

onethingthat stikes me funny about repti bid
is you can usally watch there counter roll off "hit numbers" as you view the page w/o refreshing ... i have sat and watched it roll of over 100 hits and never refreshedthe page lol almost like the have a rolling counter on the site to make people think they are actually having that many ppl viewing the site a minute

Inflating the user number to look larger than they are is one thing.

Blatantly false advertising is another.

They state that reptibid is a free service and they will never charge anything.

They state that the sponsoring sites are donating 10% of profits to reptibid for the next 30 days.

They encourage purchasing from two specific sponsors.

What they don't tell you is that the sponsors are owned by the same company that owns reptibid.

So granted users that never purchase from these "sponsors" will never be giving money directly to reptibid, however they do provide traffic which results in revenue generated by advertisements.

What are the odds that after this sales event, that reptibid won't be seeking legitimate sponsors using this event and traffic generated by it as a selling point?

Alan,

There's actually counters done in different formats, java, javascript, etc. that update independently from the page, so it's quite easy to update in realtime.

But also, like it appeared to you, it's very easy to fake as well :)

Web counters are not to be trusted unless they are with a reputable third party who provides auditing functions so you can see where the hits are being generated.

Interesting thread. Bet this will turn into a long one :)

i understand that

but this counter was rolling like i was filling up my suburban at the pumps lol ... i find it hard to beleive that , that many people were viewing it at the same time ..

I got the same mail from them this morning. A four day promotional price special. Columbian redtails - $11, Feeder crickets - FREE. Whatever...

It actually displayed my username and Password in the mail they sent me too.

Same here. By doing so, they just compromised every single user's account.

Same here

My user name and password were also sent to me in the mass emails they sent out.

And these people wonder why they have a BAD reputation. This is an unprofessional, bad business decision. If they have time to do this, then I would imagine they would have time to clean up their act and the scams that unfold on a regular basis.

I would also imagine they could clean up their way of allowing anyone to sign up. With little to no address required and various other information that should be required to prevent people creating multiple fake user names to bid on their own stuff.

But, I guess this will remain just that.... in my imagination!

Reptibid are the scammers. Here they are lying to every one of their members in an effort to scam members into paying money to the owners of Reptibid.

flukers

Repti-Bid and Repti Mart are owned by Flukers
Flukers also owns Reptilemax. Its the only way they can sell cheap the public.

The intention was to get volume up enough to help promote their own sales. I was to understand the true original idea was to promote the failed reptile repulic and eventually build up traffic and run promos for their biggest customers like Petco. (ie Get Flukers brand Bearded Dragons at Petco) This was what was tossed aound, but due to the bad rep that Reptile Republic got for the unhealthy dragons that idea was scrapped.

They have tried to hide their interest to avoid pissing off their Flukers wholsale customers.

The site was never for the hobbyist as claimed but to promote themselves.

As far as real traffic is concerned to ReptiBid, evidently someone over there set up a hit counter for FaunaTopSites for that site. At the moment, they have logged over 64,000 hits to ReptiBid.

Personally, I would say it is a pretty strong indicator of a LOT of traffic to that site. As a comparison, this site (FaunaClassifieds) has logged just over 22,000 hits today.

I am curious, why does this irritate you so much Steve? If the company that owns reptibid has access to animals "cheap" enough to run a promotion like this to help boost the numbers why is this considered a bad thing? Are they not selling these animals at such a low amount that they are sure to lose money? Isn't advertising spending money with the hope to gain back the expenditure in future sales? I just don't see the problem with a company that owns other companies using said other companies to help benefit them all. What next are you gonna run a BOI complaint that the local car dealership is offering a car at 10% below sticker to repeat customers? sheesh quit your whining and come up with a legit reason to be upset. I know some people who would consider placing the breeding stock on their "available" page at extremely inflated prices just to give the illusion of available stock as misleading and deceiving as well..

And no I am not a fan of reptibid, nor do I agree with the practices they allow on the site, but a company has every right to offer services/products that they have available at what ever price they deem appropriate to increase traffic and future revenue.

I think it's one thing to say you are sponsoring a promotion for some OTHER company.... but to do that and have it really be YOUR company is deceptive. They are LYING. LYING is bad. Thus THEY are BAD

I use them some to sell, about one in five "completed auctions" result in payment. Pretty bad if you asked me. I dont even bother fooling with the feedback feature on there. On ebay I have about 95+% payment on completed auctions. I had one exchange with the Reptibid powers that be. Had a dummy bid and not pay and come up with about ten reasons why he couldnt. He was still bidding on other animals as he was giving me these incredibly creative excuses. Reptibid told me they were going to pull his plug, even got a phone call from them. He is still on there with the same user ID?? Now I get this latest email. Including the password was blatantly stupid for sure. I cant say that including it really matters-what is someone else going to do with it, purchase something in my name so I can just not bother to pay for it anyhow. That would make me about the same as the 80% that dont pay me! Then they might cancel my account???!! I wish I was so lucky! I think their promo is about the dumbest one I have heard but I agree that it is just another way of paying for advertising. I also think the potential downside for them is great when they send out all of these likely crappy animals. I am sure the $11 boa will be top notch! Our Heroes!

I got the same email.

Anyone take a chance on the free crickets yet?

I went ahead and took a chance on the neo beardie for 9 bucks shipped. I will know in a week from tomorrow how it looks.. I will post to say how its condition is as well.

Later

Yeah yeah, sure you wouldn't Steve, and I don't blame you with the problems you have without introducing any outside health issues. :D
