In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I purchased an adult female corn snake on September 4, 2004 at the Carolina Reptile and Exotic Animal Show in Raleigh, NC. She was quarantined and kept in a separate room away from other snakes. Two weeks later, the snake began regurgitating all meals. A routine fecal was performed with negative results. Regurgitation continued and I requested a specific test to check for Cryptosporidium. A sample was sent to an outside lab for testing and came back positive. Cryptosporidiosis is highly contagious and eventually fatal. It is a protozoan parasite that is most commonly passed through infected food, water and feces. The handler may also transfer it to healthy animals if they have not washed their hands before they go to the next cage.

This snake had to be euthanized and all her furnishings thrown away to prevent the risk of transferring it to my other snakes; corns and ball pythons. I notified the show's promoter and the show veterinarian and advised them of what had occurred and that the vendor was possibly Reptile Addicts out of New York.

On April 30, 2005, I returned to the Carolina Reptile and Exotic Animal Show and confirmed that the vendor was Reptile Addicts from New York. I spoke to the same man who sold me the snake and showed him my documentation from the veterinarian and the lab. I was told that he didn't know what had happened to the snake after I bought it and there was no guarantee on the animal. In addition, I was told that Cryptosporidium was a necessary parasite for the digestion of their food. I was told that he would make me a deal on another animal and I declined this offer. I advised the show promoter of our conversation and this vendor was placed on his complaint list.

I felt like this information needed to be shared with other herpers so they could make an informed decision before they buy.

Hey terry

Hey Terry,
Nice to see a first post, too bad it is in this matter. Some of the "etiquette" for the BOI is to post any proof you have. This would mean that if you have any pictures or scanned images of your vet reports then you post them on here. This would solidify your claims.

As for Reptile Addicts and John and Fred Kick, the owners, I used to deal with them on a weekly basis when I worked for a small store in NY. They "piggy backed" with a fish distributor to wholesale reptiles to the stores in NY.

I got some good animals, some bad, mostly marginal or average. Crypto generally does not show up as much as most people think, and I would be quite interested to see the vet report on this one.

I will also say this, I will have to double check tomorrow, but my vet (A very well respected herp vet) claims that crypto tests notoriously create false positives, and that it is quite hard to detect.

I do not mean to insinuate that you are not telling the truth, not by any means. Would just definately help to prove your claim.

Not quite sure if this is the same people - but a store in Lockport, NY by the name of Pets Plus (specializing in reptiles and tropical fish) used to have a website by the name of reptileaddicts.com or very similar. I've always had good experiences with Pets Plus - not sure if this store is related to Reptile Addicts at all or not.....

Yup

Yeah, those are the same guys. Dont know if they are still in the retail store, but they used to be based in the back of that store and upstairs.

Reptile Addicts-Aditional Information

Hi Tom,
I have attached, I hope, a scanned copy of both the lab report and bill from the veterinarian. The vet sent the sample out to the lab for the specific crypto testing. It's my first time posting on BOI so thank you for your reply.

yes they are My Ex partner use to get stuff from them and never had a problem

Pets Plus is a retail pet shop, Reptile Addicts is the wholesale reptile shop upstairs. John and Fred Kick are the owners. I'm not saying your lying but these guys sell high end reptiles at most of the shows. I have gone to several shows with them and never once did we display any corns, are you sure you purchased from them?

This is a pretty old post, I wouldn't count on a reply....

However, the following sentence pretty much plainly explains that he was certain he bought it from them.......

I spoke to the same man who sold me the snake and showed him my documentation from the veterinarian and the lab. I was told that he didn't know what had happened to the snake after I bought it and there was no guarantee on the animal.

It also shows that the seller didn't argue the fact that he sold it to him, he just didn't want to give him any guarantees on it.

You talk about reptile addicts like you are not a part of the business, and then, when you close out your statement you say that "we" dont display cornsnakes....is it safe to say that there is a connection between you and them?

In regards to Reptile Addicts (NY), I am sure that I purchased the corn snake from them at the Carolina show in Raleigh, NC back in September of 2004. I verified who they were before posting on BOI. They not only had several corn snakes for sale but also an assortment of other snakes and lizards. I can not say what they sell at shows now because I no longer stop at their table but the price list on their website at www.reptileaddicts.com indicates that they sell both low and high end reptiles.

I would liked to add that i have purchased numerous animals from Fred Kick and Reptile Addicts. One animal i purchased did have a problem and died within a week, when i told Fred, he promptly gave me full credit towards another animal of my choice. I have found him nothing but completely honest and up front. He never even asked for proof the animal died. How many guys do that!!!! I just purchased the most beautiful 3 chameleons in my collection and will continue to do business with him. In fact i am trying to contact him right now for 2 more tortoises. Please keep in mind , most animals that he has are w/c and as such are not always in the best of health. Someone mentioned they didn't;t know how he could sell them so cheap. That is how. Captive bred animal are always more expensive and any animal you purchase should always see a vet immediately after purchase whether it is wild caught or captive bred, but especially important is if it is wild caught. These are not always the best animals to start with if you can't take them to the vet or really don't know what you are in for. Sometimes a perfectly good specimen that is w/c will perish due to failure to acclimate. So do your research first. As far as Addict Reptiles and Fred and his brother, i highly recommend them, but possible not for the newbe. No i am no relative, just a very satisfied customer. Sorry for the miss spelling, i am also sick.

I'm going to add my .02 to this thread. I purchased a SHTCT leopard gecko from these guys at Hamburg in February of 2007. The gecko appeared to be active and healthy and had good coloration.

From day one, the gecko refused to eat anything. I tried mealworms, superworms, waxworms, and crickets. I called the phone number that was listed on the ReptileAddicts website (when they actually had one) and the guy who answered the phone was quite surprised to hear a customer on the ther end. I told him what was going on with the gecko, and he replied,

"uuuuhhhhhh......feed it baby food.......uuuuuhhhhh........"

and hung up. I resorted to liquid food (Zilla JumpStart) and had to syringe feed him every other day until he finally came around and began eating small mealworms and waxworms.

I'm happy that the gecko got over whatever was ailing him, but I won't buy from these guys ever again.

REPTILE ADDICTS UNPROFESSIONAL LIZARD WITH MITES / DIED 24 HOURS

I purchased a reptile from the owner at the White Plains Show April12 09. In a crowded place like that you go buy interest and trust. I never had a chuckwalla and always wanted one. I asked "do i have to worry about mites" because he had sated it was farm raised . He said "no". The rep seemed very lifeless on the ride home. I thought it was stress. When I got home within 24 hours he had died. As I looked him over I spotted mites. I have pics to show the mites and very sunk in tail. I hoped it was an honest mistake. So I left 3 e-mails and 1 phone message for him. I have not heard a word in 2 weeks. So they have my money and I had major cleaning do to mites. BAD BUISNESS PRACTICE. Would not recommend Does not stand behind product or quality

i deal with them pretty much every hamburg, pa reptile show and have never had a problem because i always deal with bobby and he always gives the best of the best animals for sale and answers any questions that i might have as well and i even help him with any monitor questions that come up when i am back at their table. yes, sometimes they do have animals that are at their best but the last 3 shows so far, the animals have been top notched and sell alot of high end ball pythons, boas, and now albino bloods as well. yes, they do not really offer a guarantee once you walk away from their table but that is why you make sure you have the best animal they have offered for sale and ask every and any question that you have about that said animal and know what to look for when buying an animal as well from clear eyes, no drainage from mouth or nose, active and bright colored along with other key factors to quarantee a healthy and happy reptile from their company.

Just figured I would throw this out there since I live about 15 minutes away. I've purchased a couple of snakes from them in 07 and Ended up bringing mites home with them, Which even with my qt period still managed to be spread to the rest of the collection. These guys have gotten in trouble for neglegance before and had a large quantity of animals removed due to improper care. These are not the people to deal with if you get a sick animal or a non feeder as they wil do nothing to right what was wronged!

Reptile Addicts and Pets Plus (in Lockport) are the same. I'm a firm believer that when you’re dealing with "live" animals, the real responsibility lies more on the honesty of the seller. Everyone is in Business to make a profit, I get that. Everyone makes a mistake I get that. To refuse to correct a situation, call a customer back or mislead a customer is not a mistake. I dealt directly with a gentleman with a beard (I believe to be the owner I could be wrong). I asked "do I have to worry about Mites"? He said "NO". I sent pictures of the reptile and its mites to him. I’m not keeping that in my freezer with food till the next show. I was pissed those things were even in my sons room. You want to see how bad mites are http://www.anapsid.org/mites.html (great site). I am happy to hear if people have had good experience. I'm stating my dealing with them was very unprofessional. Most people would be apologetic about sending someone with nasty mites (which are brutal to kill and spread FAST) and a reptile that died in 24 hours. I will be completely honest, mistakes happen as I said but a mistake you go out of your way to fix, Pets Plus aka Reptile Addicts DID NOTHING! All I say is Buyer beware (in all cases yes) and don’t trust a word they say. That again is based on my experience only.

There are a bunch of threads about these guys under different names, but this has the most recent reply so I'll post here.

I bought a flying gecko from Reptile Addicts last summer at the All-Ohio show. I was naive and didn't know much about the exotic pet trade so I saw this awesome lizard for $12 and bought it. It looked OK to my untrained eye and it seemed to take to its new enclosure when I got it home. The next morning I noticed some slight swelling on one side of its mouth, not drastic but it kept the mouth from closing completely. I spent the rest of the next two days trying to figure out what the problem was as the lizard got progressively more lethargic. I probably should have taken it to the vet, but I doubt they could have done anything. It ultimately died the third night. I thought I killed it somehow, and that put me off keeping reptiles for a while.

I have since learned a lot about the exotic pet trade and the horrible conditions that imported reptiles are sometimes in. Now, whenever I go to the All-Ohio show I check their table to see what they have just unloaded from the plane, but never to buy. The worst thing I have seen was at the most recent show. Their Tokay geckos always look terrible, but this time they actually had a dead one on display. Open wounds, a broken tail, and stiff as a board, not even "freshly dead." Unfortunately, last year I was the sort of person they prey on, and it makes me mad how many animals these guys sell to kids and their parents who don't know any better. They usually have the widest variety of animals at the show, too, so they get a lot of traffic.

I can't say anything bad about their high end reptiles, mainly because I don't know enough to critique them. For the inexpensive animals, though, they're cheap for a reason. Just stay away.

i must say i have heard many bad things about them in the past ,most of which came about with wild caught animals.
with that said i have done bussiness with them twice in the past 6 months. once indirectly and then again directly.
i purchased a female spider ball python through my local pet store. i then became curious as to where the store got it because it was such an awesome animal. they informed me they get their reptiles from reptile addicts. after seeing the quality of the spider girl i decided to go directly to them a couple months later when i had some animals for trade and traded them for a
black pastel female. the sex was correct for both animals and both animals ate aggressivly . i have no complaints about animals i have purchased.
their was a time after their dad was kind of getting away from the store more that the quality had gone down. but in my honest opinion that has changed and the animals are much better quality now.
buyer beware when buying wild caught from anyone.
always buy cb when possible
