In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Inquiry Reptile Asylum : Chris Young

I suspect the Reptile Asylum crew is still lingering on the board despite being banned, thus this is written for them.

I am a firm believer that ignorance can be cured. None of the original comments were inflammatory, merely questioning the identification of the gecko. Considering your son was asking $650 for this supposed "new morph," can't you see why we'd be concerned about the genetics of this animal? Heck, if it truly was a new morph, many of the people who were involved in that thread would have been potential buyers!

Unfortunately, your son became defensive, lashed out, and deleted the thread. This is a pattern we see time and time again with scammers. Again, I wish I had the forethought to save the html file. However, your son at one point even identified the parents of the gecko in question, and based upon the known genetics of the adults there was no way the gecko he hatched could've had the traits he was advertising.

I have received flak for defending sellers in the BOI before, but how can I even give you the benefit of the doubt when you repeatedly change your story to reflect our comments regarding the genetics of your gecko, essentially transforming the animal into some sort of magical creature that can't possibly have the genetics you're advertising?

I'm giving you the benefit of a doubt here. Please, go purchase The Herpetology of Leopard Geckos by Ron Tremper available for $20 HERE. Also, read the genetics information on leopard geckos HERE. Learn what you're talking about, spend a couple of years growing up, and then start fresh in here. We understand that breeding is a learning experience, but at some point you have to swallow your pride and actually learn about what you're doing.

The instant you step beyond owning leopard geckos as pets and start selling their offspring you're not longer a mere hobbyist, you're a business. As such, there are legal and ethical obligations you must abide by to obtain a customer base. Here are the rules established by the Better Business Bureau:

1. Build Trust: Establish and maintain a positive track record in the marketplace.
2. Advertise Honestly: Adhere to established standards of advertising and selling.
3. Tell the Truth: Honestly represent products and services, including clear and adequate disclosures of all material terms.
4. Be Transparent: Openly identify the nature, location, and ownership of the business, and clearly disclose all policies, guarantees and procedures that bear on a customer's decision to buy.
5. Honor promises: Abide by all written agreements and verbal representations.
6. Be Responsive: Address marketplace disputes quickly, professionally, and in good faith.
7. Safeguard Privacy: Protect any data collected against mishandling and fraud, collect personal information only as needed, and respect the preferences of customers regarding the use of their information.
8. Embody Integrity: Approach all business dealings, marketplace transactions and commitments with integrity.

Please keep these guidelines in mind for future business transactions. So far, you have violated almost every single one, with the exception of number 7 which simply doesn't apply in this situation. You have not built trust with your customer base, who could potentially be every individual who has read this thread. You have not advertised honestly, despite repeated calls for corrections. You have not told the truth about your animals. You have not honored promises... which to me is the same as advertising honestly, because a sale would mean that you're promising that animal is as advertised. You did not respond to this dispute professionally or in good faith, and you most certainly have not embodied integrity in any of your posts.

How are we supposed to respect someone who has not earned our trust? Free market principles apply here, you're correct, in that the marketplace is driven by customers. Please, take a breather, learn what you're talking about, and come back later when you're mature enough to handle the controversy you started.

Great post Vanessa. I'd give you karma, but I gave out too much today.

The problem here definitely lies with the parents. The "mom" says that she has a forensics degree and knows genetics. If she did, she would have taught her son correctly. I see both of these "parents" as liars (if they are actually separate people). Parents need to set the right examples for their children. Their replies and actions here show that the child will grow up to be just like them.

BTW~If I caught my almost 14 year old daughter posting something online like that to adults, I would take away her internet privileges until she could learn to be respectful. Luckily, I teach her by example and she would never act like that.

Reptile Asylum: Your ban will expire just before midnight on Saturday. Given the explanations I have already posted, you should consider your restored access probationary. One of the expectations is that you will take steps to correct the information in your registration prior to posting on this particular forum. That means contacting WebSlave via PM, and including me as a recipient (either addressed or cc'd).
If Chris is the person using the account, the D.O.B. needs to be corrected. If Michele wants to use it - then the name can be changed in the same manner, and Chris can go back to his original account. Heck, if CHRIS wants to post in response, he can use that account now - as far as I'm concerned, he is not the person I banned. I'm bringing Michele's name into this issue because of the message received by one of the moderators, from which I excerpted this statement:
My name is Michele and I am Chris' Mom. I have the Fauna account, as I am the adult, and he owns the business he needs the Fauna account for.
Two things come to mind - Chris already had an account here before you created Reptile Asylum...one that bore his name and what is more likely to be an accurate DOB (at least it puts him at the correct age). No offense, but you should probably reconsider your priorities - You feel the need to start an account on a forum to front him (one that already has many young members, including your son, btw) because you are the adult, but you indicate that he "owns the business". Really? Further, you acknowledge him as the "business" owner, while a few breaths later you state:
Minors cannot enter into ANY contractual agreement, be it by signature or rule acceptance via the internet.
If you don't think he can accept the rules of an online forum because of his age; how can you consider him a business owner, when that same thing takes him out of responsibility for any transaction he into which he enters?? Or is that the beauty of it...because he can't, it doesn't matter whether he represents things correctly? (note - I am making no accusation or statement about the animals being sold...I don't do leopard geckos, and won't pretend to recognize the morphs).

I'll also make this very clear, so there are no doubts an any of the Young minds. This thread is not going to be removed. That's just how things work here. I refer you to the Rules for posting on the BOI:
I expect I will get a number of requests from people asking me to delete some message that someone else has posted about them that is rather unflattering. Bear in mind that I cannot, and WILL not be a judge in these matters. Your word will carry no more weight than the other person's word, whether I know you personally or not. All of these types of requests will be refused, no matter how irate and threatening the request may be. As such, please note that I reserve the right to publish such email in the appropriate threads in this forum, as evidence of MY own dealings with YOU. Anyone sending me these types of messages, or of any other type, specifically give up the right or expectation that this correspondence will remain private, at my discretion. In such an instance, such correspondence will be considered as MY contribution to what is known about the parties involved in a dispute. The more abusive the correspondence, the greater the likelihood that you will see it published in this forum.

As a FYI, I have several times been threatened with lawsuits from people demanding that I delete a message unflattering to them, OR ELSE. I am fully aware that anyone can sue anyone else and not have a shred of legal basis to support their suit. But understand that I AM protected by law from liability stemming from any message someone else may post here. If you wish, you can study the following link:

Communications Decency Act of 1996

Yes, there certainly can be libelous messages posted here and yes, you may be able to prove it. But you have to prove it FIRST, and provide a court order to me before I will remove a message from this BOI. Prior to this happening, all I have to go on is your word against another's.
Before you mention your posts that were removed, read on...
There are certain rules I set up about posting that I will try to enforce, and those messages that flaunt those rules are certainly subject to being removed. I highly recommend that you check out the warning points system I have instituted here. This is a handly little system that will serve as a gentle reminder to new people about minor oversights they may have done in posting messages. More serious infractions get heavier point penalties assessed.

Please note that although not all rules will invoke warning points, they will still carry penalties such as having your post deleted,
In this particular forum, violation of the full name rule is the primary reason that posts are removed...the name posted in the profile doesn't cover you when there is clearly somebody else posting. Since you have repeatedly violated that rule, you have lost the basic level of trust here.

IMO I don't think this whole circus could be summed up better than this post.

Your supposed to be the adult here, yet when banned you go right around it and make a new account. Im pretty sure your IP is the next to get banned.

Its just childish who ever is on that site of the SN this time.

Dont get your hopes up as nothing will will be given to whoever you are. So you can step back and not return, wont hurt out feelings one bit.

Actually I and im sure others would prefer you leave.

No Rich's Reptile it is not childish to create a new account to watch what is being said about me and comment. What is childish is to stand behind the BOI rules and not even contact some one. This could have been solved a long time ago. Now I'm mad and having fun. Admin. had plenty of chances to man up and contact me. They chose not to.

What do I want to accomplish...? I am teaching my son a lesson that you all feel he needs. I'm showing how ridiculous people can be in their self worth and opinions. The GREAT BOI say's so I should shudder in fear? WebSlave knows all and she all, just like OZ he is a show nothing more. Nothing behind the curtain. That's a shame. So.if I am to be banned so be it. I'll se you all soon.
