In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. I was at the White Plains NY Reptile Expo at the beginning of January. I saw a WC Frog Eyed gecko there that I fell in love with. I was a little wary about WC, but the 'lovely' people at Reptile Depot assured me she was healthy and eating well.

I got her home and she seemed very skittish, shy and didn't move much, but I assumed most of this was due to being WC and in a new surrounding. She wasn't eating much though, and so when 2 weeks later she developed a swelling in her gut and extreme lethargy I took her to the vet. X-rays showed massive MBD (which doesn't occur in WC animals, at least to this massive extent). She was completely decalcified aside from her inner ear. She also had numerous massive fractures and what bones weren't broken were mush. She was put to sleep to save her further pain. I emailed Reptile Depot and after 5 days I hadn't heard anything I called. I spoke to Steve who told me I was wrong, my vet was wrong, the gecko didn't have MBD, and they sold me a perfectly healthy animal and whatever happened happened while I owned her. She was out of guarantee but they'd 'help me out with any further animal purchase I wanted to make.' ... Um, no? Today I called back to ask if I could take the offer on goods, rather than animals as we have 20+ other reptiles in the house and I didn't want to risk another sick animal from them. I was told they'd call me back. Instead of calling back I got an email from them which, I quote:

they were recent arrivals and in no way could have had MBD. Your vet has no idea what he/she is doing and clearly misdignosed your animal. Other animal was fine and again they were in the US a very short period.

Hopefully the vet will refund you for a false diagnosis.

Sincerely,

No apology, no offer of any reimbursement, just more insults. I have offered to show them the vet report and x-rays and they refused, just stating that my vet is wrong. I think if you've gotten a healthy animal from these people you're lucky. Not to say they sell a lot of ill animals, but if they do, their customer service SUCKS. It's not just about selling healthy animals, it's about owning up to mistakes and making them right when they don't... Which Reptile Depot certainly seems to show zero interest in doing.

I can't say that my experience was with live animals but it still was not a satisfying one. I placed a large order with them on November 1, 2006 for some deli cups, heat packs and a few other things. It took several weeks to finally get my order (received order on 11/20/06)and once I did I was shorted 22 deli cups. Yeah not a huge deal but still not my complete order. I emailed them on 11/21/06 to let them know of the shortage. I never got a response. I have emailed them 2 more times (on 11/25/06 and 12/6/06) and never received a response to a single email. I called (not sure of exact date) also and was told to expect a call back which also never happened.
I ended up having to do a chargeback with my credit card (paypal visa card) and am currently waiting for them to decide if they are going to refund it or not.

I never bothered to check here to see if there had been any complaints as I had ordered from them in the past (always dry goods, never animals)without issue. Needless to say I wont be ordering from them again.

Thanks
Vanessa Pritchard
