In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM REPTILE DEPOT

I have just been through heck with this company.

Let me start off by saying the customer service SUCKS!!!!!!!!!

I ordered some supplies that I needed, sept 9th for the Sacramento Reptile show, sept 26th. I needed these supplies by the 24th to get everything set up by the 25th.
The same day that I ordered, I emailed asking for a confirmation for my order, asked a question that required a response by a Person. I received no response. The next day I get the automated response listing my order, and they take my money.

Time goes by, and its the week of the show. No supplies. Monday I call the store, got a shipping clerk that assures me the supplies will be there by thur the 24th.
When asked why they were not shipped, they stated one of the items was on back order. I was never informed this or that my order would be delayed, at all before this. Had I not asked, the clerk was not going to offer the info as he was trying to end the call.

Thursday comes and goes, no supplies. I have to purchase supplies elsewhere. Thursday night I call the store again. Talk to another clerk who states they do not have anything that I need, but can send some smaller cups to the show for me to pick up friday. Friday, I get a few of the small tubs that are available.

Later that week I email asking for a refund, as I only needed the supplies for the show. No response. I send numerous emails to two different contact emails and NEVER get any kind of response. I emailed at least 10 times until today (Oct 13th). I also made several phone calls to the store. Each time I called, I was told no manager could speak to me. One day the staff was gone. Two other times, the staff was at a show. One time I did get through to a "Supervisor on shift" and was told they would look into it and call me back Asap. I NEVER had one phone call returned in over a month. The phone customer service is horrible as well. No one ever gives you their name. The last call I made was answered and you could hear the person having a conversation. When they finally decided to say something to me, it started as "What'd you need?".

Result - I finally got to talk to a "Manager" who never introduced himself. I started to explain the situation and was interrupted. He stated he was aware of the issue. (If he was aware of it, why didn't I ever get a response from someone?!) He stated that they would not refund my money. I was told I'd be given store credit. I will believe that when I see it!!

Through this WHOLE thing, I was never offered an apology. I was never asked how they could make things better. Heck, I didn't even get hello's. goodbye's and thank you's.

It is truly amazing these people are in business considering how things are operated, their complete lack of customer service and rudeness.

I hope this saves you from making the same mistake that I did.
Thanks for reading,
Misty Johnson

Huh.....yet another one off my list.Thanx for the heads up and hopefully something good comes of this for you somehow.

If you paid by CC, contact your co. and state the problem, they may cancel payment.

Yup to hell with their supposed store credit get your cc company or bank to get you your money back. It's really easy considering they never shipped your order as opposed to them having shipped you something you didn't order. Just talk to whatever financial institution you used and they'll take care of it for you.

wow... and to think I was looking at thier site about a month ago. Im glad I didnt order anything now.

Same shit happened with me.....finally got them to ship the supplies......4 items were not what I ordered. Didnt have the animals that I ordered....gave me store CC. I live about an hour away...so went down there and got some stuff off that......basically punk kids in the teens/early 20's working there......Ill never do business with them again......I do all my supplies threw LLL Reptiles......only supplies though.....and they have great customer svc from what I've experienced so far.....animals are shit though.....

Same story here (with dry goods), only several years ago. I never gave them a second chance to earn my business and would never recommend them.

I agree with Brye, LLL or herpsupplies.com are both good and reliable for dry goods/supplies. Reliable is often more important than cost.
Animals should always be purchased from reputable breeders only.

I have gone to Reptile Depot up in Woodland Hills MULTIPLE TIMES (about 25) I know about 5 people by name including the owner, Larry. They know a little bit about reptiles. Basically nothing about chameleons because i talked to their "chameleons specialist" and he knew only the chams names, but not how to care for them. They wanted me to sell them some clutches of mine when they hatch and i can not ethically do that because i have seen their cham care first hand and it is shoddy at best. Also YES they are very short, rude, and do not know what customer service is.

Thank goodness for such a forum as I too was looking at their website and animals and was contemplating making a purchase or two in a couple of days given that I live in the vicinity. After reading the aforementined posts....no way...steering well clear.

Why go 25 times if they suck so bad?

I also had a negative experience with Reptile Depot. They were having a buy 1 get 1 sale for UVB bulbs so I bought 4 bulbs to get 4 for free....8 bulbs total of various sizes. I also bought a medium size basking platform with the bulbs and some other random supplies.

After I finalized the purchase I never got a confirmation email, I am glad that I used print screen to save it (I do this with all online purchases just in case). I also never got a shipping confirmation email. After a week I called to see if it was shipped or not. The person I spoke with was not rude but told me it was not shipped, they were waiting on bulbs to come in. And miraculously they were coming in the next day and my order would be shipped.

I got my order a little over a week later. The bulbs were wrapped in bubble wrap and homemade cardboard "box" taped over it, half were smashed. I also never got my basking platform. So I called again to let them know about the bulbs, the person I spoke with (Josh) said they'd have to make a claim with Fedex first before I could get replacement bulbs. Ok, how long do I have to wait. Josh says he'll call me in a week if something goes wrong but I should have the replacements by then. Also they are waiting on the basking platforms to come in, they are out of stock even though the site says in stock.....OK....

A week later, no bulbs, no call. I again call Josh and he says they haven't gotten the $$ back from Fedex but I would receive my replacement bulbs when they get them back in stock....OK....he says he'll call in a week to give me an update but I should have them by then....OK.....

Another week, no bulbs, no call. I call my "friend" Josh again, and he says bulbs still aren't in stock but SHOULD be in stock that week, he will call me. He also informs me the basking platform is discontinued (even though it still said in stock on their site:confused:) so I cancel that part of my order. UGH...

No bulb, no call....not surprised. I call my "buddy" Josh, he isnt there. I am upset and say that I want to speak to someone who can help. I ordered these bulbs over a month ago and I want them! I speak to someone else (don't remember who) who tells me they are waiting on 1 particular size that I ordered to come into stock. I tell him that I don't want to wait anymore. He tells me that he will ship another brand, a more expensive brand, and that should make me happy. Ok fine, just send out my order....

I got my replacement bulbs 2 months after the original order...great...thanks. I will not be ordering from Reptile Depot again

I just wish there was more of a way to get the word out there. Especially if the BOI may no longer be available soon. People REALLY need to know how this business is run. I sent an email out to everyone I know and posted on my website. I still do not believe this is enough. Please feel free to spread my story to everyone you know.
Thanks!

Reptile Depot has a long history of reported bad business on the BOI - dating back as far as 2004. But you wouldn't know that unless you used the search function. Its a feature here that I definitely recommend using.

Misty,

Did you talk to ANY of the managers or 'leads' for Reptile Depot at the Sacramento show?? Reptile Depot has had a large booth there every year for at least the last 5 or years and a manager or lead is always there.

Just asking.

I had a similar experience with their herpfood.com branch. I ordered 3000 crickets, 250 mealworms, and 250 waxworms early on a Wednesday morning. My order was processed and charged that day, but did not ship as promised. I sent an email asking for an update and it was ignored. The next Monday came, still no shipping, Tuesday it still hadn't shipped so I called to see what was going on and they told me "It may ship tomorrow (a full week after I had ordered) or it may ship next week sometime" and then the kid hung up before I could say anything. It did ship the next day, but when Friday came around I got a call from FedEx saying they couldn't deliver the package because my apartment number was not on the label, clearly Reptile Depot's mistake since their invoice had my correct address. After fighting FedEx I finally got it delivered. When I opened the box I found maybe 800 crickets per 1000 box, and there was no difference in size between their two week and three week crickets. About 50 waxworms and 40 mealworms were DOA, and the mealworms also had a dead superworm and a bunch of dermestid beetles and larvae in with them. I lost another 20 or so each of mealworms and waxworms over the next few days because they came in such bad shape. I wrote another email after all this which was also ignored.

I will never make the mistake of ordering from them again, just wish I had known about this board ahead of time.

A BIG NO NO!

yes never and i mean never get boxes of crickets from Reptile Depot because they always have worms and caterpillars and beetles. Plust the sizes are always mixed and they are just all around crappy crickets.
