In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Reptile owners - Stay away from Mooresville, NC

Oh yes! Got the document to the property manager stating the animals must be out by Friday, September 29th.

Thanks for the laugh, Kevin. Perfect timing. :D

The latest update:

The HOA has offered to meet with us Wednesday at 6pm to hear our side. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit made them rethink their one sided verdict?

That's GREAT, Kathy!!!

I hope it all goes well!!! Maybe these maniacs have finally seen the depth of their own stupidity!!

Keep us updated!!!

The latest update:

The HOA has offered to meet with us Wednesday at 6pm to hear our side. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit made them rethink their one sided verdict?

When you go... if you have documentation (or can get it) from both Animal control and the NC F&W... toss that in their face about you doing nothing Illegal.... and that you would be happy to see them in court with the same paperwork :reddevil:

The HOA doesn't have a leg to stand on. In order for an animal to be deemed a nuisance, it must actually BE a nuisance. Geez, it's not like the reptiles are running loose chasing small children or barking non-stop.

Like my son told the attorney, "They don't smell, they don't run loose and I've never had anyone show up on my door, asking me to keep my snakes quiet."

We're getting all the documentation lined up, including the letter from the psycho complainer's son, and a price list of our collection so I can inquire why I would be inclined to sell breeding pairs of Woma Pythons, Dumerils Boas and a female P.metallica at a yard sale.

I forgot to tell ya'll, that according to the report, I also feed my snakes cockroaches. (Which DEFINITELY points back to the main complainer, as her son came in and saw my roach colony). I'm wondering if I should go into a long lecture on the difference between the common American cockroach (Periplaneta americana Linnaeus) and the Blaptica Dubia roach. And that had they done their homework on herpetoculture before they began their Reptilian Inquisition, or even asked, for that matter, they would have learned these are a common feeder species for Tarantula keepers.

I'm praying for a good outcome to this. I'll keep you all posted. Thank you for the good thoughts!

Does the HOA not recognize the lease you signed with the home owner when you moved there? Your pets/animals are listed on the lease, per your earlier posts, so perhaps the home owner should also be a part of this "witch hunt" and should be present for all meetings with city officials.

After all, if you did, in fact, list all your pets/animals on the lease, then you could plead innocence on the basis of the signed lease. IE, you were not aware the pets/animals would be a problem and trusted the home owner to know the regulations/laws/ordinances of the HOA/county/town and advise you of any non-compliance with any of those entities at the time of leasing the residence.

As for the differences between the American cockroach and Dubia's, just print out a Wiki article, and maybe a couple others off the internet to educate them about the differences in roach species and why Dubia's are NOT a threat. You're dealing with politicians, not herpetologists, so educate them. You and I know the difference, but the general public does not ... don't expect them to do their "roach" homework; why would they?

Just educate them without long lectures or condemnation or arrogance (I'm not intimating you are arrogant). Print out credible sources of info and let those speak volumes. :)

Thanks for the tips, Laura. I'm definitely not planning to go in on "attack" mode, thats for sure. (But, boy, will I think about it)
We have a copy of the lease, Animal Control and F&W have been contacted and are sending copies of their reports, we have the letter from the woman's son and just in case, I'm taking my records for my animals. I'll print out some articles on the Dubias along with anything else I can find that would be pertinant (sp?) to our case.
I'm hoping the evidence will speak for itself and this nightmare can be over.

Well, its been the weekend, so all has been quiet. Tomorrow starts a new week, though, so I'm sure something will happen. We meet with the HOA on Wednesday at 6pm. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on the outcome.
*keeping fingers crossed*

Sending up BIG prayers that the HOA sees the light, because of all the hoops you've already had to jump through for the state, and lets you keep your "kids"!!

Hugs-
Donna & Katey

Just a quick update before we go to our meeting tonight.

We got the Animal Control report and found out who our anonymous complainer was.
None other than the Supervisor of Planning and Zoning for the town of Mooresville.
Interesting, eh?

So, we're back! Everything went very well. We made sure to go in without attitudes and thanked them for allowing us the opportunity to clarify the allegations.
We furnished them with the reports from Animal Control and F&W. The owner of the house was there and was ready to defend us. (Shes such a sweet lady)
We also furnished them with the inventory of what we had and answered honestly every question they had. Most of the responses we heard after we explained ourselves was, "Well, thats not what the report said at all!"
We encouraged all of them to please come by anytime, unannounced even, and see the animals and the type of caging they are kept in. One of the members of the board is married to a science teacher that kept tarantulas in her classroom and would like to help us get lined up with some schools to do some educational programming. Another member, who voiced his concerned, was very happy with our answers and is planning on coming to see the animals and learn more about them.
All in all, I think it went well.
The board was going to discuss it further after we left and will let us know what they decide in the next couple days.
Still not completely out of the woods yet, but I'm praying we're closer.
