In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Reptile owners - Stay away from Mooresville, NC

Did you find out in writing what the rules are on the HOA pertaining to matters like this? I live in a neighborhood with a HOA and I'm pretty sure they just can't decide to force someone to remove animals not on the outside of the property :(

She has a good point... how can they force something on you thats INSIDE of your house. IF its not illegal... then they shouldnt have a leg to stand on.

From a little research, the members of the HOA had no issues. Its not the "universe" the developer envisioned, though, and the developer sits on the board. And as I've learned here, laws and ethics mean nothing. Its who you know and how much money you have.

HOA's operate like independent countries. If you sign a contract with them, they pretty much own your ass. They usually include clauses stating that they can change the rules at any time, increase dues, revoke privileges, etc and there's nothing you can do about. They would win in court.

I lived in a neighborhood where the HOA wouldn't let me have a cat door/a potted plant in the front yard, more than 3 extra cars in my driveway at a time, etc. Then the removed the trash pickup from the list of included services and increased the dues at the same time. I sold that house and moved. I will NEVER live under the intrusive eyes of nosy neighbors on "The Board" again. I would get my door knocked on at all hours to tell me that my lawn looks "parched" or my front door could use "another touch of paint right 'here' and 'here.'" Psychopaths every one of them.

Oh good Lord, I know it. Nothing like getting a knock on the door Christmas morning and having some sanctimonious old bitty standing there telling you your lawn needs raking.

But all those things are outside and that's understandable. Here we can't have lawn ornaments without approval, certainly can't put in unique things like cat doors. I don't see what gives them to right to judge what people own inside  Does it say that in writing? :shrug01: Or they can just do whatever they want it appears?

I would definitly get in contact with that lawyer. If I wasnt juggling 2 payment plans on reptiles already Id offer to hold ur boids for u til u can get an resolution in court, and pay shipping. But if u cant find anyone local to hold them for you I will do the best I can to help.

Good luck.

So the HOA can essentially nullify your lease, which is a legal contract?
I would look into suing the landlord and/or HOA for breach of contract, fraud, or whatever is applicable. Lots of attorneys offer free initial consultations. Aside from the harassment, inconvenience and expense of either moving or relocating your animals, it would seem you may be able to make case for pain/suffering/punitive damages.

defiantly contact a lawyer it sounds like thay are trying to bully you out when thay might not have any legal precedence to do so where rooting for you

This is absolutly horrible what you have had to go through with your extended family/herps. I am absolutly appalled that they would bend over because of a dottering old fool that has no right to complain other than her own fears and insecurities which have been found to be unfounded! If we were better fitted to take in herps while you worked everything out we would and cover shipping. As it is we are just starting out and don't have much available room. I know that there are many, many people out there and here supporting you and your cause as well as trying to educate many on the world of herps so this stigmata torwards many herps, snakes amoung the most.

I am sorry that HOA has turned against you and trying to push you against the wall with the rest of the community. I am sure with everyone here you will find a way to keep your herp family whole and continue to educate the masses in you community that reptiles are not the mosters portrayed in movies and the media.

Stand firm in what you are doing and if it does not go your way KNOW you have fought a good fight and in your struggle you may start to turn a few heads and they will help you.

Best wishes, good luck, and you will be in our prayers.

Thank you. I can't tell you what a blessing you all have been through this. I need to apologize for not saying much, but my screen name has been searched and this thread is being watched by some of the town's higher ups.
I'm not doing anything illegal, so whoever it is, is trying to dig up as much dirt as possible, and its put my family in jeopardy.

If there is anyone close by that can help with keeping some of these babies in hiding for a little while, please send me a PM.

That is horrible what they are doing to you. The idiocy of some people who are scared of somthing just because they do not understand it amazes me. I can't believe people would tell you its the animals or you, and be able to get away with it. Its horrible.
I really hope you find a way to sue the pants off everyone involved in this horrible act of discrimination.

We're actually contemplating moving back to FL. The laws are stricter, but as long as you have the right licensing, they leave you alone. A Class III is only $50 and we have no venomous and nothing on the Big 9 list.

Since your lease has been broken by the HOA, I know it's alot of work, but have you considered moving to a friendlier Non-HOA area?

K I mean no offense with this next comment.

Why in the world would ANYONE want to give up their freedom of choice to leave in an area that someone can dictate what you do to YOUR house. I can see it if your living in an appartment. But if you are buying your house.... :censored: you.... its my house and I'll do with it as I see fit.

K... something for you to look into. Here within the last year I read an article on MSN where a guy got ticketed for public indencey. He was nude in his own bedroom!!!! ... the curtians were open and some ladies walked by and looked inside his home. He went all the way to the supreme court and they ruled in HIS favor. They decided he couldnt be charged with indency because he was in the privacy of his own home.

If your not doing anything ILLEGAL (and you have the records to prove your not from the NC F&W and Animal control).... then they have no grounds to say what you can do INSIDE of your own home. They are infringing on your constitutional rights as a US Citizen.

I'd say find an attorney that is willing to take your case for a very large percentage of the winnings... and destroy them in court. Take it all the way to the top. You have the paperwork to back up your side... they dont have anything but ignorance and fear.

even if your contemplating moving... I would still go after them. They have no rights to say what you can do on the inside of your home. It would be like them trying to say that you and your husband had to sleep in different beds on everyday but Sunday. What gives them the right :shrug01:

Oh believe me. This is NOT done. Its not only been impossible to enjoy our animals, but we haven't even been able to enjoy our grandchildren because of all of this.

No offense taken. I totally understand. I am in a situation with my crappy neighbors and we've given up, we're going to move asap. Called the cops, talked to the neighbors, don't want to litigate (they have no money anyway). Everyone tells me we shouldn't let them run us out of our home, but we're at the end of our sanity rope.
