In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I'm bringing this topic up from a conversation I was having with my wife. We were talking about my snakes and such and one of her big reasons for being against having them is she doesn't want to be "snake people". I of course asked her what she meant by that and she told me that people will think we're trashy, low-lifes, etc. I explained to her that that generalization was very inaccurate and the vast majority of us are just normal folks with normal jobs that happen to be fascinated with these types of creatures. We come from all walks of life and every spectrum from the inked up biker to the old lady across the street and with each year this particular part of the pet world is getting bigger and bigger and more people are owning them. So, I wanted to see if i could show her some numbers just so she could understand that i'm not just making this up to defend the hobby.

Also, I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with this sort of stigma? I'm sure there are plenty. Feel free to share a story or whatever, just felt like getting a discussion going :)

having even 1 snake makes you "snake people".. I found out that people in my town call me "snake lady" after seeing me outside with one of my boas.. having NO idea how many snakes I actually had..

I live in a small town, my husband works a corporate job as a computer nerd.. I am a support manager for a small pet store, aka retail..

No crazy things in our life.

We donate to a couple different charities..

um.. I like to think we are "average" or fairly "normal" in the eyes of the public..

No one has judged us negatively.. Yeah, I get some "EEEEeeewwws".. but more often.. people are just curious, have never held a snake, etc etc etc..

you would be surprised how many Active duty memebers you'll met with reptile collections/snakes. I myself am one and i personally know 4 others so im sure the majority of americans dont view me as a low-life or trashy, or at least i hope not. If so i need to re-evaluate what it is i do for a living.

It's not that people sit there and call me trashy but i do get a lot of "Oh i thought the only people that kept those kinds of animals were bikers/rednecks/gangsters, etc. etc." Its not everybody, i do get some very positive curioius people but i still know a lot of people that generalize us "snake folk" as oddities. I honestly don't care what they think but always kinda made me wonder where it all came from. I honestly don't know many reptile owners that fit into that stereotype at all....the vast majority of those i've met are just like anyone else, they just happen to have some scaley friends at home :)

no matter what you own.. people will judge.. hell.. if you DON"T own an animal, you are a weirdo..

lol

You wanna talk animal judgment.. own a pitbul.. lol.. I have a staffordshire terrier.. I have had a LOT of people judge me because of him..

Hell.. I had a VERY difficult time getting home owners insurance because of him.. LOL

my grandpa has a horse wearing a lab coat. He's a black lab named Panzar(german for tank) he weighs 110 lbs to the oz. he also views himself as a 10 lb lap dog and can litteraly disappear under him when he sits down. Im 6"2 200lbs and he'll knock me down like i'm made out of paper when he gets excited playing.

Try breeding frogs.....

I wear my "got frogs" shirt alot or my Dart Frog dungeon hoodie quite often. So many people ask what it means. I explain that I keep and breed frogs. They ask what kind. I say Poison dart frogs, you know the bright blues, reds, oranges, etc.

OMG you keep poisonous frogs, why would you do that? Do they run around your house? OMG can I lick them...

A few years back a lady lost one of her snakes. I am not a snake person so I can only go by what I heard and the small conversation with her. I do believe the snake was approximately 8-10 ft. It got out due to her not keeping them in cages. She asked me while I was working at the doctors office what kind of animals I had ( due to seeing some pics on my desk). I gave the same answer. She flipped. OMG I would never keep something like that, what if they got out, they could hurt some one... yeah this coming from the lady who free ranges her snakes.

People make no sense it seems.

Kristy~ PM me if you have darts available. I am wanting to start a set-up with them, but want to do it right and would love a breeders advice on this and need a good breeder to buy from!
