In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Anyone else receiving any spam from reptile republic, telling you about a job? Dunno if unwanted spam annoys any of you, sure annoys me. I have so far received two copies of this spam to two differnt address. I wonder where they got there email list, or where they are harvesting address? I know I have NEVER opted in for spam from them, let alone anyone else.

Yup,
I got the same email. They are either spamming from this site or kingsnake. There are several herp companies that do this and I add them all to my "never purchase from" list.

I do not think they CAN poach emails from this site. I have the system set so that it does not display anyone's email addresses. If someone has seen a way for somebody to be able to do this from this site, please let me know and I'll see if I can prevent that from happening.

Howard Fluker called me and asked if I would mind running banner ads for him and also wanted to know if he could post ads on my site. I told him I didn't have a problem with that. As long as he was willing to pay for the banner ads, and it wasn't anything offensive, then I had no reason to say no.

Is there a problem with that?

No Problem If....

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to do banner ads. It will help pay for your site and their money should be as good as the next guys, right? I think it would be cheasy to post under the free section especially if they place 100 ads. If there are a few free generic ads covering many items then I don't see why not.

Greg,
Seems both of us need help, they need someone full time in south america. I need someone who is willing to help me cut foam, and pack animals a few days a week. I dont think we are competing for the same people lol. I would accually prefer someone who would let me pay them in rat snakes lol.

Webslave,
No problem accepting $ from them for banner ads at all. Maybe you should check your access logs to see if they ran a spider over your server, should be the easy way to see if they are havesing from your site. I do think if they are using your site to help them spam people, that you should ban them.

Would banning them stop the spiders?

All of the email addresses on this site are stored in records in a MySQL data file, not in HTML files. I'm not really up on how spiders work, but I would think it wouldn't be as easy that way to capture email addresses.

As for Howard posting ads, I doubt he has intentions of flooding my site with them. I understand he has his own sites to work with. Matter of fact, he told me he attempted to open an advertising account at kingsnake.com and it was refused by Jeff B. Perhaps Jeff is even refusing to have owners of competing sites as customers now.

I think this list was generated froi the email addrasses they spideped off of KS a qhile back. At the time they gra`bed 3 of my addpesses. I had reported them for pwo of them and had those emails removed. The spam I got was on an address I don!t use at this site ( sales@ , while I use danieh@ for this site) but is the genaral email I use when posting adq on KS.

Taka his money as ha isn't promotina anything illegal with it.

I used a different email addy at KS than I do here, and have never gotten Fluker's spam sent to the one I use at Fauna, but have gotten 3 copies sent to the KS addy.

I guess that makes it obvious that the list is from when they poached KS. As far as him having a banner ad, good for you
Webslave. As has been said before, no problem with him advertising a job opening. I have to wonder, though, this job needs to be filled immediately. Has no one responded to it? Why has it been advertised for so long if it needs to be filled so quickly? You'd think someone would want a funrished home, truck, and maid. *shrug*

I think the reason it's not been filled is simple. They ask for someone who has breeding experience. Most people who fill the bill have collections of herps, usually on the larger side. Who's going to want the hassle of relocating all their animals to El Salvador? (Unless the maid is really hot...)

I've got three of them @ three different email addys, only one of those was registered on KS, so I have no idea how he got the other two. One of those I did register on here with, but also have it on another site also (not KS). The third is used so rarely and never on anything reptile associated, so that one really baffles me.

Oviously mass spam as I would think I would be one of the last he would send email to intentionally, well..... at least behind patty!

Also notice they are not from Howard or the email he listed here in the ads, but from [email protected]

I too have received a number of these SPAM e-mails from them. It is pretty bad that they advertise with banners and such and then feel compelled to SPAM everyone becuase no body is responding to the ad. I wish them the best of luck, but it does not instill a good feeling with me from a company that resorts to SPAM instead of waiting like normal. Just another additional black mrk on them.

Reptile Republic

I am registered both here & at KS, but did not receive any such email... that I can remember.... I usually deleted anything that even looks remotely like spam.

Anyway, I am intrigued by the job offer... I went to their web-site & there is zero contact info... could anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Marcial Mendez

Senor Mendez

If your intrigued by their offers, that means you must have seen them... no?

There is an email contact on them, you only have to click on it and respond via email, also in this thread at two locations.

They harvested the Emails off KS last summer, so if you registered after that, they would not have stolen yours. Many sites, including KS had to take precautions to try and stop them doing this to users, unfortunately the honest people lost some options they had in the past due to this unethical business practice... but thats the usual story.... remember one bad apple.....

According to the locations he multi crossposted his ads on a reptile classified site it appears he is looking mainly for a lizard person, interestingly he posted on leopard geckos, chameleons, bearded dragons.... but not iguana's which was their main income source down there for some time

Perhaps you also have experience in internet ethics and can help hom there too :D

Even us

Hey, whats the deal! we even got this employment request.
Do you really think they want someone from reptilefood.com working for them? :dgrin:
One other thing...What's with the e-mail being linking to [email protected]? Isn't that the name of the Fluker Father? Let me check my Fluker Family Tree I keep here in my office... Yep sure nough, it is the Fluker Father's name. Maybe he's the maid? Who knows.
I just find it funny that they are just trying this approach now. It should have been thought through a little more and requested before most everyone disagreed with their actions in this venture.

I do not see what the big deal is.
Throw in three of the hottest maids and I am there.
One dark haired.
One blonde
and one red head.

I want one to speak spanish....
another to speak German
and the other to speak French.
all have to speak English.

but all three have to wear the short French maid outfits...
okay..okay.... one can wear a Britney Spears school girl outfit.

The truck has to be a hummer H2 in black with bling bling all over

oh wait I got off track sorry.

no I have not received spam
