In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

reptilecity.com - my story and why you should avoid doing business with them:

I got a Black Throated Monitor from these guys today and it was D.O.A. It was shipped in a plain brown box with no idications that it was a live animal, fragile, perishable, etc. It had one mostly dead heat pack and a cloth bag in the box.

After looking it over I saw that it was missing a claw on its right front hand. It was also very very skinny and looked like it hadn't eaten in who knows how long. It's skin was just hanging off of it.

Before all this happened, it took them almost a week to even process the payment made via my credit card. Then gave me a shipping date that they didn't meet. They shipped it a day later after I called them to find out where my order was. The guy I talked to said he personally went down to his "warehouse" and hand picked me out a "good one". If the one I got was a "good one" I would hate to see what a bad one looked like.

I hope no one has the unfortunate experience of doing business with them in the future.

Noah,

Sorry to hear about that! Have you contacted the seller? What are they going to do about this? Has a refund or replacement been offered or demanded?

Animals being poorly shipped with injuries or in poor condition as you described is always a bad sign, but shipping problems and delays do happen. The REAL test is how the seller responds after the problems arise.

:eek2:

Noah,

As I said in e-mail It is a terrible thing when someone does this. Please keep everyone here posted on your refund from them. Also Welcome to the Site. You will find it to be a great tool.

That stinks...hopefully they will take care of the problem.

Normally, I would recommend contacting the seller to try and resolve the problem on a DOA before posting on the BOI. However, if the animal appeared to be in poor health and improper shipping procedures were followed, I can understand you being upset.

If you are able to get a refund, check out Pro Exotics. They have some beautiful black throats.

Bad Guys Bad Deal

Noah,

I am very sorry to hear of the experience you have had with this dealer. I do hope you get resolution on the matter.

Why people have to treat animals with such disrespect is so beyond me. Have they no heart?

Best of luck to you,
Tiff

here is their warranty.
go get your animal replaced.
Good luck to you.
If you receive your order DOA, You Must Report The Problem At Time Of Arrival. Unlike no other site we stand behind our product for 30 days from date of purchase. If the animal perishes within our guarantee, we will provide a replacement.

Our business is not a rush out the door company. We take all live shipments to the shippers location at the airport. This is must less stressful on the animals because they are not riding around in the back of a truck all after noon. And the animals are only in the shipping containers for a few hours before they arrive at your location.

*No live arrival guarantee for shipments that are delayed or mishandled by the carrier.

*No live arrival guarantee on amphibians at anytime.

We use heat packs to help keep the animals warm. We guarantee that our products are of the best quality available. All items are packed according to the item and the length of their shipment as quoted by the carrier.

We will respond within 24 hours, to Email sent to us at [email protected] If you would prefer to contact us by phone, please feel free to call us at 1-888-877-5575.

I'm not possitive about this, but I suspect that Reptile City is a company that strictly does on-line business that pays a percentage of sales to "sales reps" who host their site in whatever means they can. I have met "the owner" (so he said, now I believe he was just another of their "sales reps"). He told me all sorts of things about the business, and was "interested" in one of my products on a wholesale basis. We met at a show and he said he was from my area (St Lucie County, FL). He also told me that they don't stock anything except a few animals. He said almost everything they sell is being sold for someone else. Since our meeting, I have seen different site addresses that all lead to Reptile City, and from many parts of the country. Even ads on (you-know-where) from different people in different parts of the country.

Knowing all that I knew and with the suspicions I was accumulating, I had decided a while back that I wasn't comfortable doing any business with them.

I just went to their site to try and figure out my suspicions. I'm pretty sure I was correct. You can become an "affiliate" or "distributor" as they call it, for the low price of $19.95/month.

Is it me or has anyone ever heard of an affiliate having to pay to be such?

About 10 minutes after i got the package...

I called them and told him what had happened. He seemed suprised which I thought was interesting because anyone that knew anything about reptiles should know that putting one in an uninsulated container to sit in the back of an unheated UPS truck in the middle of winter in the midwest should know that it wouldn't fare well.

He was almost speechless the entire conversation and when I asked him what he was going to do he didnt say anything so i told him he was going to refund my money in full and I would ship the poor little lizard back to him.

He probably would have offered to replace the animal, but why would I want to risk getting another one in such poor shape and have my money going to people that care nothing for the wellbeing of the reptiles, just that they get paid.

I wish I had a digital camera I would have posted the picture for people to see.

As for asking for the refund before posting on the board...
I was just posting to let others know of the unsatisfactory service before I recieved the monitor as well as it being D.O.A. and unhealthy on top of all that. No amount of refunds in the world can fix their slow order processing time (over a week) and poor care of their animals.

Did he agree to send you a refund after you asked for one? Is he making you send the dead lizard back to him?
Chris Raden

he agreed

to give me a refund
he does want the lizard back though

i guess to make sure im not lying

I can understand it since he is trying to run a business.

I knew that name sounded familiar. There was a thread about them a while back...
