In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Do not buy from ReptileDepot.com

I ordered three red-eyed tree frogs from their website. I was a little nervous about getting them from a website, but no pet stores in my area carry them, and one of the stores actually recommended I look at Reptile Depot.

I was a bit uneasy at first, but after reviewing their refund policy, and alive on arrival guarantee, I felt comfortable enough to order from them.
Big Mistake

I placed the order on a Friday morning, and expected them to arrive on Saturday. (After paying $80 for overnight shipping) On Saturday, I had not received any communication about my order, so I sent an email to support. After no email on Monday, I called their store, and they informed me that the order was sent that day, and will be there on Tuesday.

Tuesday afternoon comes, and so do the frogs. Yay!, right? Nope… all 3 frogs were shipped in the same small container inside of the package! 2 of them were tangled together and dead.

Once my wife came home from work with our laptop, I hopped on and email them about the issue. The next day (Wednesday) , I received a response asking me to freeze the bodies while they looked into the issue. After no response by Friday, I called the store, and the woman told me to mail the bodies back, so I could receive my refund.
Great I though, so I mailed them back using certified mail. After they received it, I called again in seek of a refund/replacement.

The woman said I would get a call back. After no call, I emailed them, and this is their message:

“If dead at 2Pm why did you not immediately notify us? Your notice to us was 6/13/2006 7:25:27 PM, and you must have been aware they were dead. That should trigger an immediate response to call us to ensure your guarantee was not void. Your statement clearly shows us you were aware of our terms: We do hope our Guarantee does provide comfort,. Summer months can be tough and we can only hope customers comply with our guarantee for everyone’s sake (animals included). If you do not take care of the animals, we cannot be responsible”

What??? I open the package to dead animals, and it’s my fault? Why have a 24 hour guarantee, if you incriminate people who don’t contact you the moment the box is opened?

They have been dodging calls, and emails ever since. I’ve been hung up on, put on hold for extended periods of time, and the manager never seems to be in.
FYI, Reptile Depot has 13 unresolved claims at the Better Business Bureau and an F Rating…

I wish I had only known sooner.

Good luck, and I HIGHLY suggest you stay away.

Rob, I am sorry to hear of your troubles. Reptile Depot has a history of problems. I cannot stress the importance of a simple search of the BOI prior to purchases. Hopefully this thread will yield some results for you. If not, chalk it up to experience and be sure to utilize the BOI regarding future transactions.

Best of luck to you.

:iagree: Well said Sir...
An expensive lesson, but I hope my experience can help inform others.

Quick question... what is the BoI?
Newbie here.

thanks again.

Shame on them for shipping frogs "overnite" on a Saturday, knowing full well they would not arrive until Tuesday. That's just idiotic.

For future reference, it's not wise to have animals shipped overnite when it's late in the week, like Thurs. or Fri., because if the slightest little thing goes wrong, they won't arrive until Monday at the earliest.

Hope you get satisfaction on this.

The Board of Inquiry. That's where you posted this thread, which was the appropriate place to put it. It is a forum filled with vast amounts of both positive and negative experiences and should be used as a guide to protect oneself from scammers and other problem children in the herp community. It is truly a priceless tool for the herp consumer and vendor alike.

This is right from their site:

We guarantee all of our animals are healthy upon arrival.

If there is a problem or concern please call us within 24hrs.

If there was no one available to accept the package, or the driver

does not secure a signature, our guarantee is void.

If the animal perishes within our guarantee, we will provide a

replacement or store credit. We cannot refund or credit shipping.

Customer is responsible for all shipping charges

on the replacement of the animal(s).

At the very least you are obviously owed a credit for the purchase price. It's sad that people like this continue to give online purchases a bad name.

I placed a big order with them last week for cups, heat packs, sacs, and beddings and everything arrived on time. They were back ordered on something and took the loss of money to get it here along with the rest of the stuff overnight. I also have ordered animals from them before such as snakes and chameleons and all went extremely well. Everything was packed great and arrived warm and on time. I am speaking on MY transactions with them, not anyone else's. Just my experiences, thanks!

I've purchased Uroplatus from Reptile Depot before and never had any problems. They were always polite and courteous on the phone and email and were knowledgable about the animals they were carrying. Needless to say I would never hesitate to do business with them again and I have recommended them to numerous people.

I order shipping supplies from them and have never had a problem. I don't want to contribute to a company like this though. Could anybody give me a site that sells shipping supplies at a decent price?

I dealt with them at the NARBC show in Dallas, I had no problems, they had great customer service at the show, and were very helpful, I would not hesitate to do busuness with them again.

I've purchased supplies from them at shows, but after hearing about the issue with the frogs, I wouldn't purchase a live animal online from them. It's easy to have great customer service when everything goes well, it's when things go wrong that's telling. Since their terms do not require immediate notification and you notified them within 24 hours, they owe you a refund or replacement on your frogs. Please keep us posted on how this turns out.

After hearing about something like this, I'll boycott them on principle. Unless the backlash hits them where it counts: loss of business, they won't have any incentive to change. Hopefully, someone there will pony up and do the right thing or come on here and justify their actions.

I have recently purchased about 10 assorted Day Geckos from Reptile Depot and had them shipped to colorado. Everything went very smoothly. I would definately order from there again.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience though, it sounds like they owe you a refund...

Good luck -

According the the original poster, the order was shipped on Monday for Tuesday delivery, not on Saturday.

Knowing RD's history, and the fact that I agree that they should refund the money for the dead animals, I am not defending RD as such, but the OP should have been aware that paying on Friday for overnight delivery doesn't mean that the animals will be shipped on Friday, nor should they have been shipped on Friday.

He ordered on Friday, paid extra for Saturday delivery and got it the following week.

This is ALL on Reptile Depot.

While we are on the subject, $80 to ship three treefrogs "overnight" ? Are they each a foot long ? From CA to MN is a $50 shipment at best on a regular weekday, heatpacks and handling included, maybe $65 if you truly paid for Saturday delivery, and that's usually for delivery before noon in all cases. Its less for most deliveries in the afternoon, maybe by $5-10, depending on carrier. They got you for more than you know!

And to all those who had a transaction or two with them that went as planned, and "would not hesitate to do business with them again". Take off the kneepads. The true measure of a business is not how they get things right, but how they fix things when they go wrong. Wake up.
