In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Reptiles Express, snake shipping suspended

I posted this reply on a thread in the BOI, but think it is relevant here as well...

All things considered, it's actually very unfortunate that SYR's deal with UPS fell through, no matter what the reason. If for no other reason than the fact that it gave everyone OPTIONS for shipping their animals. Right now, unless sellers are able to convince their buyers to run to the airport to pick up their packages, FedEx is IT as far as shipping live animals is concerned. Quite honestly, this fact used to keep me tossing and turning at night thinking about it, because it is just not healthy at all to have your entire business completely dependent on any ONE source for an absolutely necessary product or service.

The simple fact that SOMETHING caused UPS to become unwilling to work with SYR (and others) should be fair warning that there is always the possibility that the same or similar events COULD happen with FedEx and have them drop this service as well. So EVERYONE who may be somewhat lacking, needs to clean up their act for shipping animals so that this essential service from FedEx doesn't just go away SUDDENLY one day, and leave everyone with NO satisfactory options for their shipping needs.

ReptilesExpress.com Update:

No news at this point is good news. If it was UPS's decision to stop working with RE we would have just been cut off like others have been. All of our accounts are still active and we are still shipping supplies out everyday with UPS. We are in almost daily talks with UPS to get a system that both RE and UPS are happy with. UPS has approved shipping snakes no waiver needed to everyone. We are hoping to be back up and running by Feb. Nothing is 100% yet and we will work hard everyday until we can sell labels again or UPS and RE cant come to a agreement. We will let everyone know as soon as we do. Keep your fingers crossed.

No offense meant... but I would like to see this in writing on UPS letterhead. They have been stubborn thus far. If you really pulled this off... then I would like to shake your hand for your efforts.

Brendan,

Perhaps you could take a moment from your talks and finish up your business here:

While posting BOI links is common, and certainly allowed, in the classifieds, it seems a bit out of place in a discussion forum...especially when the discussion appears to have died 2 months ago. On the other hand, Brendan certainly seemed to be using this thread to advertise his business. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. (weighing........weighing)

Nope - feels too much like seeing certain other members pursued in random threads; and that situation prompted a pretty firm response to stop it.

I can't find where this is true. Could you give us some more info about it? I have been on UPS's web site, and it list's snake as prohibited. If what you are saying is true, then maybe they have not updated their web site. If it is true, who can we contact to verify?

Here is a link to UPS's prohibited animals list as it reads right now.

Last I talked to Brendan about this, RE was still under negotiations over the financial end of things with UPS (trying to get a better rate) and was working with FedEx so they can offer both. :shrug01:

I was more interested in the part of his quote that I highlighted in red. He says that anyone can ship snakes through UPS. I don't see that anywhere.

I read that as they approved the idea, not that policy has been officially changed. I would think he would have said "UPS has approved a change in the snake shipping policy so that no waiver is needed for everyone" rather then how he worded it in his post.

I know Brendan has been super busy with other projects, perhaps someone could get in contact with the other owners (Ghanns was one, I forget the second one, it's posted somewhere).

I think his statement is misleading, to say the least. If someone read that, and shipped prohibited items through UPS, it could be more of a set back for the whole reptile community, as well as another black eye, that we don't need. He, or someone from his company should clarify what it is he meant by that. Because, the way I read it, it's nothing but trouble.

The VP in UPS that we have been working with has told RE that UPS will ship snakes now with out there waiver program. However, this is not a open call to start shipping snakes with UPS. That statement was only made to show we are still working to improve the shipping options out there for reptile breeders/dealers and I believe UPS will offer this to the public even if RE can not work something out. I am sure when UPS is ready and has a policy in place for shipping snakes they will have all of there reps get the word out. I don't think they will change any of there policies until everything has been worked out with RE and SYR. RE does now have a approved program with FedEx very similar to SYR. It is our intent to continue talks with UPS as we work on the site modifications and finalize our contract with FedEx. We think it is best to be able to offer service from both UPS and Fedex.
