Victor,

I recieved my tortoise yesterday afternoon and she is beautiful. She "appears" healthy and is even larger than I was expecing! However there's a problem I wanted to discuss with you.

On fecal examination, she appears to be infected with a parasite (an intestinal worm) called proatractis. It is a common roundworm (related to a pinworm) and I should be able to treat her with fenbedazole (panacur/safegard) and I am hoping it's successful.

My concern is #1: that you told me she was captive born. If this is true I would recommend deworming your entire tortoise population.
My second concern is that obviously this tortoise is older so we don't know how long she has had this infection. This parasite embeds itself deeply into the intestinal lining, can cause necrosis (deadening), roughening, and thickening of the colon. So there's no way to tell how much damage is done already. There have definitely been deaths from it, which is why I am alerting you. From the studies I've read, it is very hard to get rid of so if you aren't already, I would recommend a deworming program (panacur) for all the tortoises you have in your retail store. I would be more than happy to give you dosing information if you need any help. I'm a licensed veterinary medical technician at the zoo here, so i can get doses for just about anything you need. The dewormer that I'm going to use can be obtained over the counter so you should be able to get it pretty easily and you can either put it in food (i use babyfood) or a feeding needle (stomach tube). I really like the tortoise you sent me, so I'm not requesting any action as far as the business deal end of it. I'm just genuinely concerned about your other tortosies, and of course, the health of mine. Parasites can be a really serious health issue, so I try to stay on top of it with all my tortoises (routine fecals and deworming). All I ask is that IF things go downhill with her health and she dies within a reasonable amount of time (like a week or 2) I would like her replaced with another. But, I'm experienced with this kind of thing so I do not forsee any of that. I will definitely stay in touch though if something does go terribly wrong. I will let you know. Please don't hesistate to call or email me if you need help treating your others or obtaining the right medication for them.

PS. If you'd like more information about this parasite you can search for cosmocercoidea, nematodes, proatractis, or atracidae. Those are all families of the species.

well first off the person who i bought the tortoise from lied to me and told me that it was C.B it was one of this breeders! i bought this to his attention when i received your Email and he told me that it was not true. well i am sorry about that. someone is lieing but if you say it had worms then you must be right. just to let you know all the large red foots i get from the importer are W.C imports the only ones that are C.B are the smaller babies! dont get mad at me for what someone else lied to me about. since then i do not buy from that person any more! thanks for the feed back i have pancure here!:thumbsup:

SO even if your story is true, your lack of communication and professionalism is what added my 2 cents to this post. Maybe if you had some tact and had responded to me, and maybe even offered to do something about the situation, I could've stood up for you in this forum.
Hopefully you are using that panacur, but I doubt it.

I would only like to say one thing, if you are doing great business then good for you. But it appears that you have many unhappy customers on here. I personally am not asking for a replacement or for my money back. The way I see it was a lesson learned for me. But with all of the people that are unhappy I would think that there are areas that you could improve on. Instead of arguing and calling people names and trying to say they lie, why don't you take what is said. You could take the opportunity to get some good insight as to what needs to be done, fix the problems, maybe save a couple of customers and then you could truely have a good business. It will only help your rep and your animals. Right now you are only hurting your business and your animals. Just be a bigger man and stand up for what you have done and correct it. It will only get better if you do. And it will only get worse if you don't.

hmmmm you're right! I must have it twisted...which is why you are no longer allowed to post on kingsnake huh??? Yah, but I am the one who's got it twisted right??? Kingsnake does not remove people because of a sour customer, they removed then when there is actual evidence of a rip off artist.

I deal with several of the breeders on this very forum. All of which have been a pleasure and have GREAT animals. Not bloated parasite infested ones!

well then they get off my back this thread was posted by a customer that had a good experiance with me and i dont need other haters posting negative things on this thread! just because they are bitter haters! if they dont like me then dont interact with me. dont buy from me! its that simple! keep there hateing comments to them self.
