• Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

"Reputation Level"

I believe reputation is left by members about your posts, I don think it has anything to do with your transactions. That would be "Warning Level", I believe.

If you go to your private messages area, then hit "User Control Panel" it will show you the comments left and link you to the post that they were left for. Perhaps that could help explain it.

Sorry for the double post, i cant edit my previous one.

Thank you. I appreciate the information. So, basically anyone that wants to redflag you, so to speak, regardless of whether or not they have done business with you can.
I have 3 neg. "karmas" (lol). One left by someone that didn't even state their name or reason, one left by someone named "Randy" for typo's, and one left by another that didn't state their name for what THEY felt to be childish insults. What a silly system.
As soon as I figure it out though, I will leave a pos. "Karma" for you, Billy. This is the way a system like this should work. It shouldn't be an opportunity for anyone that's feeling "Randy" to satisfy their libido, so to speak.

I think you've got to be a paid member to leave reputation, not sure though.

And it doesn't reflect badly on your business, only on your posts. Like I said thats why there's a seperate rating system "Trader Rating" for business-related.

If it is the Randy I think it is that you left you bad karma for "typos" then that it hilarious. Because up until their was a spell check feature that guy was apt to mis-spell his own name. And still might. Too funny!!

Dont take the karma thing too serious though. It has nothing to do with your business practices, just what some folks think about your posts on this forum. Nothing more, nothing less. Just be yourself and conduct business in a professional manner and people wont think twice about a little bad karma over a post or two. Especially bad karma left for "typos".

From what I have gathered the karma can be used at a whim, if someone likes/dislikes your posts, typos, agrees, disagrees anything. I wouldn't take it too seriously, I have only been back to this site since the end of dec and like clockwork once a month I get a bad karma from the same person. The last time the person rambled on and on about three years ago! Maybe this will be my bad karma post for this month

The trader ratiing is for transactions one person has done with another. That in my eyes for buying/selling purposes is the important one.

For non-paying members I believe you can only give good karma but not bad karma and I don't think you can use the trading rating yourself?

Seriously Jason, I think you got into it with some folks in this thread and a few people perhaps left you a negative. As Sammy said though, they really don't carry any meanining except what individuals have thought of your posts.

As for leaving one's name, if you are a paid member ($25) of the site you can see who left you karma (good or bad).

Also, the "karma" level of the person giving you karma determines how much their vote is worth. The higher their karma level, the more it affects yours. They must be in the "positive" numbers, or it means nothing.

Here is what I understand, anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

Karma:
This is the whim of the reader as to how they like your post. The points you get are based on the givers own karma. (as Cat Said the higher they are the more points they can give). You may give positive karma as just a member, but your karma does not carry any weight unless you have at least 50 posts, as a paid member the ($25 level) you can give neg karma, . Also as a paid member you can see who left you karma.

Trader Rating:
This is the people who have done business with you and what they think of the transaction.

Now of the two the Trader Rating is obviously the one you want to be sure stays positive. As I said in another thread on Fauna, Karma will be what it is, you post your opinion some will like it others will not. You take what you get. You will find people out there who will ask for positive karma in exchange for some back. (called Karma Whores) Its your choice to participate , but Karma means nothing in a reflection of how you do business, or what your about as a person.

As has been stated by everyone so far, Karma means nothing, or should mean nothing except to see if your posts convey a popular opinion.

I thought as an unpaid member you had to have 100 posts first before you could give positive karma and you had to be a paid member to be able to give negative.

If I am reading that right, then after 10 posts your karma counts. For some reason I thought it was higher than that.

That chart left me with a few questions as well, for example: If one receives 10 reputation points upon registering, and must only have 1 for his/her karma to affect others...then it would seem that as soon as they hit 10 posts (barring negative points in that period) good karma should given should count - but that doesn't always seem to be the case. I have a few "grey" marks in my karma list, and a couple were given by people with positive reputation scores and sufficient post counts (the others were given by people with too low a post count or a negative reputation score). :shrug01:

I think you pretty much have it Harald,,,
Jason if it was from the thread Jim posted that was a while back, you just now noticed it?? Randy
