In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I considering the use of hardboard and melamine in combination to build a few snakes cages, but I cant find any information on hardboard's resistance (or lack of) to high humidity. Can anyone comment from experience, or recommend a good sealant to increase the resistance?

Thank you.

I haven't been able to find any useful information on it, so I'm going to use it on the back and side panels as an experiment. That way if it goes bad, those pieces are easy to replace. I'll save this thread and comment on it after a few months of watching the wood.

For the cage that needed humidity, it didn't work out. I may have not sealed it correctly, but regardless water got into the wood and it feel apart pretty fast.

I also used it on a dragon cage though, the pegged kind. Since the dragons cages are much dryer I didn't even seal it, used it on just the sides, and it has worked great. Saved me money and time on buying vents and cutting holes for them. Doesn't look terrible either.

My verdict is to not waste the money if you need a cage that requires a lot of moisture. Its just not worth the hassle of having to replace after a few months, even if it does greatly reduce the cage weight. Alternatively, jump right in if you are building something for a drier habitat, like beardies.
