In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Over the last few months there has been a few other similar scams with various aliases, emails addresses and phone numbers so far I have

They all send MO for an amount way over the listed price (well their "assitant" does that :ack2:) then want the difference back via Walmart MO, obviously a scam

What Deborah said. Beware. Post any and all information you have to help others. Every alias and means of contact shared means another that may fail to work for them in the future if people do a search. I realize you already put the name(s) and number here. Any email addresses and so on are good additions as well. Thanks in advance.

Did the money order end up going through? I got a text from the same number, guy going as John Bishop. Wondering if it was legit or not. Said he is sending a Money order and accidentally sent too much.

Those strangely persistent slivers of hopefulness and curiosity form the lifeblood of these scammers.

Reaching the point where an address is given out or a fake money order is received means one's armor and defensive processes need to be reevaluated.

Oh C,mon now really?
Holy moly this is one of the OLDEST cons on the block, it has been doing the craiglist rounds for absolutely years!

Please people do not get suckered into anything remotely like this ever.
Pure scam end of story.

Not necessarily, some of us play along and get the scammer to send the fake MO just to waste their time and some money for postage.

Play your cards right and you can get them to do it more than once. :reddevil:

Now, if you try to deposit the MO in your bank account then yes you need to have your head examined.

Also if you don't want to use your address just send it to your local cop shop or FBI field office instead.

While I can see the merit of "playing with them" I do not feel it is a good ploy as it encourages them to remain at it, yes eventually they realise they were "played" by you but while still out there "playing", there WILL be somebody who does fall for it and get scammed and then it is not a game any more.....
I suggest just totally ignoring them, not even deigning to reply is best method, and adding them to the ever growing list here on the BOI.

I agree with your exception, Melinda. I was typing about the hopeful and curious contingent to which such bait is aimed.

See, if everyone played with them, and cost them more than they gained by scamming, then at some point they'll figure out it's not worth the effort.

Maybe off topic but fun. I like to make them think I got it and cashed it but decided not to send them the animal or the money. We all know they never planned on having the animal picked up. I have had good luck getting a good bit of information by doing this. I even had one guy call me from a New Jersey land line that matched an ip address. I took it all to the local post master and never heard from them again.
May as well waste there time and counterfeiting skills. Some are quiet good. They usually send it overnight costing them money as well. Send them to Walmart or western union to retrieve their money just too find out you accidentally gave them the wrong information.
