In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I recently purchased a large adult female Florida Green Water Snake from an ad on Kingsnake.com from a Rick Cremeans of Lancaster, OH. I sent him a postal money on July 22 for the cost of the snake AND overnight shipping via FedX, as per our email agreement. I emailed him on the same day and told him if he would to please let me know when the payment, which I overnight-Expressed to him, was received, but he never did let me know; he just sent a rather impatient email over the weekend telling me I'd receive the snake on Wednesday. I never got any further correspondence as to when he'd actually sent the snake or providing me with a tracking number. I waited all day Wednesday for the snake, then having failed to get any response from him by email, tracked down his phone number through the phone company and called him. He looked up the tracking number and emailed it to me, and I was able to find out that the package was in transit. It arrived at approximately 7pm on Wednesday. I checked the airbill and realized he'd sent it second-day delivery, NOT overnight, from Ohio to SC. The box was only 12x12 inches, which I found unbelievable if the snake was actually the size I'd been told it was. The box was wet on the sides and bottom and stank, really bad. The snake was allegedly gravid, so I was hoping she'd given birth en route to account for the wetness and smell, but I nearly threw up when I opened the box. There was absolutely NO padding of any kind, no Styrofoam, no "peanuts", no newspaper, just a bloody pillow case on top of a single layer of bubble plastic on the bottom. When I opened the pillow case, the snake inside was in an advanced state of decay. I had to take it out in the yard away from the house to empty it out, it was that bad. The skin was already sloughing off, and it had bloated to the point where it was starting to split open in several places. The eyes had already rotted away. The inside of the box was full of old blood and decomp fluids. I took several photographs of the dead snake and the inside of the small box before calling Mr. Cremeans. He insisted that he'd never had a problem shipping animals this way, and that the snake was alive on Monday when he shipped it, but it takes a lot longer than that for such a big animal to reach that state of advanced decay. This was a snake the size of many adult Blood Pythons, and it had been crammed into a box smaller than a 12-pack soda can carton. Cremeans said he would have a contact person in Florida catch me another snake and send it to me, but I insisted on a full refund. I do not want another dead rotting carcass to arrive. This thing was so bad that when I tried to pick it up by the tail to dispose of it, the tail just came off in my hand, so I had to use a large flat shovel to scoop it up. Cremeans emailed me last night, insisting on seeing the photos and telling me that the snake was alive when he shipped it, so I emailed him the photos of the snake and the inside of the box. I have yet to hear from him, and I noticed he'd removed his other ads on Kingsnake this morning. I'm doubtful that I will get my money back, but hopefully others will know to stay away from this guy so they won't have to deal with what I did.

A snake in a hot box can decompose fast, especially in hot weather, and DOUBLY especially when there's no insulation or cool packs.

Could you post the pictures of the packing etc? That's a horrible way to ship a snake, and I don't blame you for demanding a refund rather than risking getting another dead snake.

I hope you get your refund.

What was his reply when you asked for a full refund?

Please post pics of box and the doa snake.

Do you have the full name and address of this guy?

Pics of Dead Water Snake-GRAPHIC!

Yes, I do have the guy's address, home phone and cell phone numbers. I also have pics of the dead snake and the inside of the box. I have a photo taken of the dead snake inside the pillow case inside the box, which is what I saw when I opened the box and the bag. I just went out and measured the box that this animal was shipped in, and I greatly overestimated its size. The top of the box is only 9 1/2 x 91/2 inches and it is only 5 inches deep. A five-foot-long, massive, gravid adult Green Water Snake was crammed into this, with no cool packs, and shipped 2nd-day freight. If the snake was alive when packed up, she would not have lasted long after being enclosed in this box. There was no free space in the box. I might have to use two separate posts to include all the pictures, and I warn you-they are GRAPHIC.

This is how the pillow case with the snake was packed in the box. I had not even opened it at this time.

This is what I saw when I got the bag opened.

This is the snake right after I dumped it out of the bag.

Sorry for the double post-I forgot to put a slash in the image tag of the last pic, but I didn't see any way to modify or edit the post without just clicking "back"
Here are pics of the box the snake was shipped in.

i can not believe that anyone would ship a animal that large in a box that size. That is completely and utterly careless. I cant imagine he would expect that snake to survive shipping in a box that size.

Not only crammed into a undersized box, but with no insulation, no cool packs, and shipped 2-day(correct?).

Totally irresponsible. Did you send him a link to this thread? What has he said about a refund? Did he have any live arrival guarentee? Got a link to the ad?

Horrible.

Now I'm scared

I checked the BOI before the deal, and now I wish this post had been up earlier. I also made a purchase from Rick Cremeans, in this case two female TX bullsnakes. I contacted him last week when the ad went up and we agreed that I would ship a money order out on Friday when I got paid since he doesn't take paypal. I did so, and the delivery confirmation lists the package with the M.O. as having been delivered on Monday 7/27 (USPS tracking 0308 2690 0000 5315 9984).

I emailed him yesterday to see about shipping and have not heard back, although he was really quick to reply to earlier emails. I have emailed him again tonight with a link to this thread and will keep the community posted with the results.

For search purposes, this is the info I have:

Omitting the address for now because of privacy concerns, but I do have the entire email correspondence for proof if this becomes a bigger issue.

The last I heard from him was his emails last night insisting that the snake was alive when shipped and demanding to see the pics of it dead, which I emailed to him. Throughout the whole thing, once I said that I definitely wanted the snake, he's been lax about corresponding. He did not let me know when he received the money order, or provide me with the tracking number for the snake until late Wednesday evening when I started to get concerned about it not having yet arrived, and I had to track down his phone number to get the tracking number.

All of his ads have been pulled from Kingsnake by the time I woke up this morning, and he had several others as of yesterday, including one for a Spotted Python and several for various turtles. Hemmingway155, I pray that your snakes will not arrive in the same condition mine did, IF they get shipped at all!

Wow, Just WOW!

I wrote and rewrote my reply here many times and above is the only part I can actually post on a public forum without risking getting banned.

Sharron, I'm really sorry you are going through this and had to open that box to such a sad sight.

Shipping with no concern for the live snake in the box.

No cool packs in the hottest part of summer, using a flimsy single wall cardboard box.

This guy deserves a strong kick in the ass for sending that snake to its death.

Disgusting and sad that the poor snake had to suffer and die because this guy doesn't give a crap. Poor packaging and there is no excuse for not shipping priority overnight. Not 2 day in the middle of the summer, jackass. Will the parade of scumbags in this hobby ever end? Porn stars, sick snake peddlers, con men and lowlifes. It's discouraging sometimes..

Sad

That poor snake had no chance. Rick Cremeans you my friend should be ashamed.. your not helping the Reptile Community your only helping take us down. Stop being so cheap and use the right shipping materials and ship next day it really is not that much more $ .

Sharon sorry that happened to you, and thanks for letting us know, you deserve a full refund.

Bill Black

That is absolutely inexcuseable! It's cruel, inhumane, digusting and complete animal neglect.
I can't even imagine what that poor animal endured because of him, and frankly I hope his business suffers just like the snake did.

Thank you for bringing this low-life to the BOI, Sharon.

When I ship, I use the smallest box possible to minimize shifting, settling, and bumping around. Having said that, what an awful sight! To ship a live animal with no padding, insulation, or means of security is downright negligent. Good luck with this...I hope you track him down for a refund.

Please tell me if I am wrong, and I really hope I am, to me it appears that the top of the snake's head appears to have the skull partially showing. Is that what I am seeing?

oh...my...

i think i would break down in tears if i opened a box to something like that....

bad...so very very very bad....
