Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rodent water valves other than Edstrom?

Has anyone found any good rodent watering nozzles other than Edstroms?

I see Reptile Basics has a nozzle available that is spring actuated. Any feedback on it, or any other nozzles would be appreciated it.

I currently run about 100 Vari-flows and admit that I would love to find a better option. I actually just received 20 of the new valves from RBI and am hopeful that they prove to be an improvement over Edstroms. Unfortunately, I can not provide any feedback since I have not installed them yet. I suspect that the spring design should prove to be a better design than relying solely on water pressure to seat the valve.....assuming that the spring holds up. Of course it doesn't hurt that they are less expensive than Edstroms also.

Michael, keep me up to date with how the RBI valves work for you over the next few months. I'll order a few and try them out as well.

I am currently using the standard Edstroms. They tend to either clog or leak after a few months of use. I can always open them up and clean them and they will work fine again for a while, but it gets tedious. That snotty substance they are clogging with is anyone elses guess... my watering reservoir is spotlessly clean and lidded. I also use just about 1/2 cup of vinegar to every 5 gallon water change to keep bacteria at bay.

One week down and so far so good.... The only potential issue is that they have the ability to flow a lot more than variflows "if" the valve is fully depressed. After watching the rats drink from them though I find it unlikely that they could exert enough pressure to cause this but even if they did it didn't flow enough to cause any harm. Will update in a couple weeks unless something changes between now and then.

OK, Just wanted to give a quick update to say that I have had NO issues with these RBI valves for the month 1.5 months or so that I've had them :) I even ran one of the water totes empty last weekend due my crazy work schedule recently and had no issues with the RBI valves. Unfortunately I did have another flood in one of the last racks that I have not changed over to the new RBI valves :( Needless to say I ended up buying more of the new RBI valves this week to replace the other valves. Please note that I have only used these with my rats and have not tried them with my mice yet. I am only a little hesitant to try with mice because these valves flow a lot more water if firmly pressed. Honestly, I'm not sure that the mice could apply quite that much pressure to be concerned..... Then again, I have never had an issue using Variflows with the mice either. I'm not really sure why but it was only the rats that seemed to "gum" up the Variflow valves.

edstrom has a standard valve that you can buy its bigger and mostly for rats but ive never had any problems with them like the vari flow i switched over all my rodent racks to the standard valves

Can you provide an update concerning your use of these nozzles for the past several months ?

Yes, I suppose an update is due (overdue) I absolutely love these valves. I have had ZERO floods at all and as far as I can tell... no drips either. Great Price...Great product.

I get that same snotty substance clogging up my Edstrom valves- it seems to grow in the tubing. Do you think this stuff will pass through the RBI valves?
