In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Bad Guy RodentPro- Zoonotic disease warning

The epidemiologist that I've been speaking to told me that she will talk to the CDC about people who may have purchased from shows. I think she may even post here- I told her that I had and gave her the website.

Could you please provide her name? This is a serious allegation against Rodent Pro, the more information as to history and validity, the better. I am not saying I doubt anything that has been offered here, but hard proof is always good.

I just spoke with Casey at Rodent Pro. He did not address the issue, he asked for my name and number and said he would pass my concerns along to the owner.
I replied that what I would like to have happen is the owner to come here on this thread and address our questions on this thread. I hope that will happen so to further help with scope and concrete answers.

My concern is that this situation was only found in May. I feel certain it didn't just suddenlty start in May. When did it start? How long had it been going on before it was found. And did RP do something on their own to rectify the problem (I'm not talking about notifying customers, here. I'm talking about doing something about the diseased rodents) or did they finally address the problem when forced to by the city, county, state or federal government? Further, I want to know about any effects on reptiles. We had four questionable deaths 24 hours after all four ate some RP food. They were not sick, had never been sick and were housed in separate rooms. It was the only thing they had in common.

Lucille, I also called RP when I first heard of the rumors over a month ago. I spoke with Kelly who was very friendly until I told her I had been hearing rumors and wanted to address them. She immediately told me she had a conference call but would call me right back. She never has called.

It is a plausible account, but like all BOI allegations, the more proof, the more plausible. I am not saying at all that this happened here, but anyone can say anything. I think it is reasonable to ask for some validation before totally nailing Rodent Pro to the wall.

I think it is reasonable to ask for some validation before many get worried and empty freezers of thousands of dollars woth of frozen rodents, and worry about their reptiles.
Again, I am not at all contesting validity, I have no horse in the race, but asking for more info is reasonable IMHO.

I just took a screenshot of their site. No mention of this. You would think with serious allegations like this against them and people calling, they would at least put something up on the site to dispel this accusation. :shrug01:

Not sure if this means anything, but I haven't seen a rodentpro add on kingsnake today. I usually see them a few times a day. Did they pull their ads?

I really am glad you posted this, my last order was in december but what if the problem was still around at that point? I got sick a few times out of no where in january and it makes me worried... Also, I hope they do not supply a local place I have been getting my frozen from lately. They need to list all other rodent suppliers they supply as well. And the dates back to when it may have been possible that they shipped any and all infected mice and rats. I also have helped friends feed their snakes with rodents that may or may not have been from rodent pro....I am glad I got tired of paying their shipping....

I have always had good customer service with them in the past, but I agree - the lack of warning is unacceptable. :( No matter how unlikely the risk is, I believe they still should've sent out a courtesy notice to all customers within that time period. I recall getting mass-emails from them about current deals, they could've sent an alert out that way.

My last order was assorted with mice, rats, quail, guinea pigs, and chicken chicks. That was in March and it's been eaten with no apparent effects on my snakes. I'm wondering whether that order was before the outbreak there, whether freezing killed it, or whether it just doesn't affect reptiles? :shrug01: Google hasn't turned up any connections between them, but I'll be asking my vet for his opinion anyways.

Personally I fought lymphoma two years ago, had no immune system there for a while, and I distinctly remember how paranoid my oncologists were about rodents. It really surprised me - despite all the harping I hear about salmonella, the snakes were okay under our roof so long as I didn't personally do the caring for them. Same with my dog, it was all fine with the docs. They only made a big fuss about the rats having to go! Guess they're good disease carriers. :ack2:
I'm good now and have actually been to the doctor a few times since my RodentPro order, checked out fine. I'm not worried about myself, but rather others like Laura or expecting mothers who weren't informed. :NoNo:

It's really unfortunate that this happened and I'm sure they have a lot on their plate now, but I hope RodentPro steps up here with some good explanations. :yesnod:

CDC. If they say it, it must be true.

Unless I missed it somewhere, I don't see anything stating these ALLEGATIONS are without a doubt 100% true. Pretty serious stuff against a well known company.

The CDC hasn't said it here or in any kind of email posted here, the OP said they said something. The requested name of the epidemiologist has not been given.
I really think more is needed here. Of course either way, Rodent Pro might be wise to address the issue.

My post has nothing to do with this disease, but I was a happy RodentPro customer for probably 5 years, and ordered at least a couple thousand mice per year from them until last year. Someone decided to take the box of frozen rodents off of my porch after the delivery guy left it, when I contacted RodentPro a couple days later to tell them the tracking number says delivered but I haven't got the box they treated it as if it was my fault it happened. They did send another order of mice but they sent it to be held for pickup and the only facility that can hold dry ice was nowhere near where I live. Didn't have access to a vehicle around that time and it wasn't easy finding someone willing to drive that far to help me pick up the box, and the one time I did get a ride the place closed before I got there. Needless to say I decided to was time to switch rodent suppliers and I've been extremely satisfied with Layne Labs since then.

Their KS ads were bumped up today, and they're still sponsors here and at KS. According to their website, they're scheduled to vend at the St. Louis show on 9/9. If this is true, it potentially affects everyone at the show. At what point would you guys give the show organizer a heads up? I surely don't want to do anything inappropriate. Guess I'll give them a while to respond.

Personally, the feeders I've received from RodentPro have been in their freezers for a long while. The freezer burn on some of the guinea pigs I've had was evident of that. So the stuff going out NOW would probably be where the issues would arise from frozen feeders. This isn't me saying "don't worry" to the people who've bought feeders in the suspected time period, it's me saying "you should avoid them like the plague at this moment".

To the OP, can you post any proof of the CDC telling you about this? Any emails, text messages, photocopy's of letters?

I hope the op can provide pure uncontestable sources and proof, otherwise, not very good to post allegations like this publically with a huge red bad guy X in the title. Even if this proves nothing, this threas is going to be so long for people and prospective customers of rodentpro probably wont see it. This isnt a bad guy "I didnt get the right snake I ordered" this is a serious allegation. You have to make sure you got everything lined up before coming here with this. Or at the very least make it info thread until you get alk your ducks in a row and have 100% proof

Fast forward to yesterday, when I received a call from the epidemiologist for our county, who informed me of the following:
1. The CDC was looking for people who had purchased rodents from Rodent Pro, particularly in May of this year.

It seems to me that the CDC could probably get Rodent Pro's records and know who bought what and when, if there was a health issue involved.

Has anyone here heard of a friend or acquaintance that was asked about this?

I realized I did purchase the last batch not so long ago, so I'm checking my records to be certain... I did write to rodent pro as well, so I hope to get an answer

That's what I was thinking too. If the CDC was aware of a potentially serious health issue with RPro, seems like the CDC would go straight to the source and obtain sales records, test specimens, etc. Did the local epidemiologist learn of the infected rodents from the CDC?

I'd think that the CDC would have to get warrants/other legal allowance to be able to do so. If that's the case, then making calls and asking for permission before hand could be the faster and easier route.
