This thread could be a book so I'll try to make it as short as possible. I eventually got my money back from this guy after threatening legal action but I feel I should warn anyone else who may search here before doing business with this guy. Here's the short version:
On February 29 I emailed Rogelio (who goes by Ro and Rob as well) about a Bali dwarf female retic he posted on Kingsnake. We sent a few emails back and forth and I called him to discuss shipping methods and to get a "feel" for him as a person. I just recently purchased a house which I received the keys to on the 12th of March. I informed Rob of my situation and that I would be willing to pay for the animal in full if he would wait to ship her until I moved. His response was "If you can paypal the full amount to me ASAP, then I will hold her for you until you feel comfortable of having her shipped." I paid the amount in full as we agreed on March 2.
Four days later I get an email asking when I'm going to be able to be ready for her to be shipped. He tells me that it's going to be costly and time consuming for him to keep for the the time period we agreed upon. He suggests that I take her now and house her with one of my other snakes. I replied to his email saying that I'll be moving in about 10 more days and I'll let him know when I'm ready for her to be shipped. This is where the fun starts.
The next day I get a lengthy email telling me that he wants $30 more for feeding her and changing her bedding and that it's unfair that he is taking care of a snake that should have been shipped the day it was purchased. I told him that this was pretty absurd and was not what was agreed upon for the deal. I said that I'd gladly have him refund me my payment and he could move on to one of the other people. He responds telling me that "we had no writen contracts about any term." and also that since I paid for the snake I now owned it so he doesn't have to do anything for it. He included this lovely paragraph in his email:
"If you disagree with providing me the resources needed to sustain the snake, then I will still "HOLD" her in terms of housing and bedding, but feeding will not be included. This is designed to discourage you from postponing the shipping process any longer than 2 weeks. If, for any reason, you decide to go over two weeks from the date of purchase, then you will recieve a refund via Paypal less $100 for waisting my time and resources."
I like that he decides our original terms are no longer valid and then decides on his own what his terms for the transaction will be after I've paid. There were a few mildly heated emails that went back and forth. Eventually I just told him to ship the snake and I'd stick her in a rubbermaid until I moved. He then gave me a shipping amount with I idiotically sent to him along with my work address for shipping. Once he got that money from me he told me that he wouldn't ship to my work as it was an unconfirmed address. Anyone with Paypal knows that you can only confirm an address by matching it to your credit card statement. I, obviously, do not have my bills sent to my work and tried explaining this to him.
After a few more days of arguing he finally offered a refund (which I suggested in almost every email after his first request for more money). I gladly accepted his offer. A day later I emailed to ask where my refund was. His said he made a deposit and as soon as that clears he'd refund my money. So I wait another day and no refund...so I email again. This time he tells me that he has to transfer funds from his bank account to his Paypal account before he can refund me the money. This is BS as well because you can send money and Paypal will just pull it from your account, but I'm still trying to let him fix things. I called Paypal and discussed filing a fraud report but they basically told me if he has no money in his account and I file it there's little they can do. Three more days pass and I email again to ask about my refund. His classy response this time is "Take a hint. Still waiting for funds to transfer."
I got a little aggressive and told him I'd be filing fraud charges with Paypal and with my bank as well as contacting the police. His response was "go ahead". I figured I'd wait a few more days before filing the charges just in case he decided to refund my money. Sure enough three days later he did. I guess all in all I was refunded my money but not without being caused quite a bit of headache first.
I would recommend to anyone to avoid "Rob" in any dealings they may have to save yourself a huge pain in the butt.
