In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    Addendum: 01/10/2026
    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rollback.

In another post, I have effectively decided to walk away from this site. Not sure for how long. There are some things that unfortunately only I can do on this site, but for the most part everything else is really on it's own.

In the meantime I am rolling back as many decisions that I can think of that were controversial, and as such probably cockeyed on my part. I guess my confidence in myself is really gone.

The BOI will no longer be restriced to paying members, for one. That was about the biggest pile of crap (prior to the current one) that I have ever gotten myself involved in. So to hell with it. That will be ended as soon as I post this message and make the changes in the forum permissions.

There are probably more, but I have had quite enough for one day, and maybe one lifetime with all of this.

If anyone contacts me, please don't take it personal. I am just ignoring everyone.

Wow, Rich.

Get your head back where you feel that it belongs and come back soon please.

Good luck. You are also in my prayers.

QUOTE]

I am doing likewise. My heart is still with those here, but too much has taken place, and there has to be some time for the hurt and harm many of us have felt to settle.
I feel like many of y'all are family, and so I know y'all will understand.

Peace,
Lucille

I agree

I'd suggest not making any changes until after your sabbatical. Making changes while doubting yourself may bring you more grief then you are experiencing now.
.I agree with Dave. It is clear to me that no harm was intended from your actions. I have been on Fauna for a long time and have always respected your decisions as being fair and honest. You are only human, like the rest of us.

I hope the wonder of seeing and caring for newly hatched snakes helps remind you of what this is all about. I hope that those who've seen things from one perspective or another will all take a deep breath, calm down, and get back to the business at hand: caring for and loving our reptiles, and being the community we have always been.

I especially hope everyone here has a good fourth of July, my family is together for just one day. My oldest stepdaughter just flew in yesterday with her two younger siblings and will be leaving again tomorrow. I'm going to spend time with my family and be very grateful for their presence.

AS for making changes. I think that it is good to take time off and then make the changes, but your of course in charge.

Enjoy the fourth, Rich, and everyone else on this site. Let's all come back renewed

Rich...

I am in complete agreement that you should not make any major decisions right now. Let's all take a little time for retrospect, emotional healing, and inventory our thoughts and motives. Let's try to stay focused on the importance of community and generosity, and be grateful that we have each other for the love, support, and forgiveness we all desperately seem to need right now.

Rich,
I'll chime in here with everyone else. I also feel that some time off is in order before you make dramatic changes. I'll also point out that most of the changes made regarding the operation of Fauna over the last several months were essentially made WITH the input of many of the people that frequent it.

You repeatedly asked for opinions and explored options to determine what would be the best course of action for this site and for the people who utilize it.

You are not alone here.

Enjoy your weekend.

Rich,

While you have asked for opinions on almost everything you've done here you've also done what you felt was right, went with your gut, as it were.

Your gut is more likely to have been right when you last listened to it than a decision you make while having doubt in your ability to make decisions.

Things run, mechanically, well enough as of now.

Think long and hard and then make your decisions.

Tomorrow is never a given. Do something today that makes you happy. Doesn't your wife need something bright and shiney?

One more vote here Rich for giving yourself a few days to step back before any sweeping monumental changes. i think you will find that the vast majority of members support and agree with the majority of the decisions you have made.

It ain't always easy being the King

and another vote here.

I personally think the "verification" aspect of the fee has worked exceptionally well.

I think Rich should stop asking opinions and just do whatever it is he WANTS to do. This is his site after all. JMO :)

I once had a boss that asked everyone's opinion on everything, staggering lunches, staggering start times, etc. There was always chaos, fighting, etc. going on. Then he got fired and the next boss implemented whatever he wanted as long as he got the approval from the higher ups. He never asked an employee under him a single opinion. Yeah it was sorta like a dictatorship but it worked well in that situation. The fighting and bickering over trivail things virtually stopped and it actually turned out to be a pretty nice place to work.
