    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Rosy Boa Shedding Question

Hello,
First post here. I purchased my first snake about 2 months ago (rosy boa) and had a question regarding shedding. For starters, he's probably 4 months old, 10 gallon tank, around 85 on the hot side and maybe 70 on the cool side. I've noticed the couple times he's shed that it hasn't been in one piece. Is this a major issue? All the skin is coming off no problem so it's not like he's getting eye caps. Just in multiple pieces. I definitely struggle with humidity in my current apartment during the winter (I live in WI and spring is just now arriving). I just want to make sure I'm taking good care of him and that I'm not doing anything to damage his health. He's eating fine and all seems well.

I only have boas but not sand boas so I presume they similar,He may be just snagging himself when he’s shedding as long as it’s all off including the tail tip and you know about the eye caps then I would try a good mist a couple of times a day when you see him going into shed cycle , this should help a lot with a full shed , hope this helps

One good tip is to use damp sphagnum moss in a hide box. Rosies aren't high humidity animals, but this would help up the humidity a touch and give it the option of hanging in there if it needs to. Sphagnum moss is awesome because it has antifungal properties.
 
What kind of substrate are you using? Some folks make the mistake of maintaining rosy boas on sand, which can cause shedding issues.

85 on the hot side is not enough for rosy boas. We provide a hot spot of 95. Rosy boas do not do well in a high humidity environment. If you are providing a humid hide, only provide it when the animal is actually shedding.
