In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

This was intended to initially be an info thread but after repeatedly being treated like a liar when I have been cordial is silly. I would like to say Rowdy has been quick to respond and hasn't ignored me.

3/14: I pursued a 2010 Albino Spider ball python from from Rowdy. We agreed on a price and payment was made. Below are the pictures I received of the BP:

We discussed back and forth about shipping, temps and using a heat pack (text messages are below). Transaction was going smooth and nothing pertaining to the snakes health was mentioned.

3/21: the snake was shipped out from Dallas/FW area in Texas. Weather that day in DFW was:

She was picked up early that morning and I assume was on the truck all day. She arrived the next day at my house and upon opening the box, I noticed the heat pack was laying directly on the snake who was tightly wrapped in a bag. I pulled her out of the bag and she appeared lethargic, starved and dehydrated. She had a nose rub from what I can only assume she developed from trying to escape the heat pack. Her nose was raw but the least of my concerns. I placed her in her new tub and she had her head assisted to the water bowl where she drank as much as she could. Below are the pictures within 20 minutes after she arrived. Bones sticking out, flimsy skin, and lethargic. This is a snake that hasn't eaten in "9 days":

Here is the video of me unpacking her (this is only a portion of the video because I had to upload it via cell. If my integrity is questioned, I can provide more):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Socydqg1dak&feature=youtube_gdata_player

I left her alone until that night and she was still lethargic. I could hear slight popping but it was random and kind of hard to hear. I double checked her conditions and let her sleep.

The next day I went to work and left work at 10am to check on her. I get home and she is whistleing and wheezing ever so lightly. I used vacation time for the rest of the work day and scheduled the soonest vet appt I could. The whole time I was keeping Rowdy informed. I explained I was not laying blame but he remained defensive.

2pm arrived and I transported her to the vet and made sure my brother came to verify what went down and what the vet said. He said she had an RI and pulled mucous from her nose. We checked her throat and she was not drooling and her "throat veins" seemed fine (can't remember the name). After 24 hours and plenty of drinking water, this 2010 weekly eater weighed in at 183 grams. He prescribed her 0.1 cc's of enrofloxacin orally each day for six weeks and after the meds and exam, came to $79.05

I informed Rowdy and cordially requested that he split the vet bill with me. I have many doubts in my head, none of which were relayed to him, that this snake was sick before it arrived. 48 hours after drinking water she still doesn't appear to be a healthy eater. I feel splitting an $80 bill and ending this transaction was more than acceptable but I was wrong. I got more out of the trip in education than just treatment alone so that's why I justified splitting the bill but the blame was pretty much shuffled on me because I didn't see a problem with using a heat pack (texts below explain everything). Return shipping would have been more than this bill so I do see why this was an issue.

This thread is not about reimbursement, nor the packing, nor the health of the snake, nor who is at fault. This is about making the buyer at fault and suggesting I sell the snake to someone else and put it back in a box and ship it with an RI so it can be sold to someone else.

My losses here are 5 hours of work, $80 vet bill, 6 weeks of treatment and extreme quarantine for longer but his replies suggest I am making this stuff up to recoup a measily $40 when I have already lost so much more. I don't understand his logic behind it but oh well, the snake is back on the right track, I feel much better and she is a total sweetheart.

Hi Rowdy

The temps look fine in both of our areas and I'm only going to be a few degrees colder than Dallas. If I may recommend, I would put both the heat packs close together in case she needs to back off them. I have had good luck mounting them to the top. Are they 48 hour packs? If they are the uniheat packs that are about the size of an index card, then one should be fine. Uniheat will mildly raise the temps so if you're in the 70's in dallas, the box shouldn't get hotter than 85. I would not use hot hands though. They get much hotter and last only a few hours. My wife and I will both be here all day, I'll probably be on the porch all morning :) Thanks

V/R

Nick

im thinking i will ship tomorrow. how are your temps looking?? im going to look for myself as well also. out daytime temps are really pretty warm here and night temps are in the high 50's. im going to be useing a small box with 2 smallish heat packs. ive had very good luck shipping like this the last few shipments. its a very weird time of year to ship....my temps here with insulated box and heat packs will kill a snake although it may be perfect in your area. my strategy seems to work good. you should recieve the fedex tracking update here in a bit. just make sure your there on the first attempt on thursday to sign for her. thanks alot. rowdy.

Also, is she strictly a mouse eater or has she not got a chance to try rats yet? As for shipping, when would be a good day for you? I'm not really in a rush but today and tomorrow look good. Thanks

Hi Rowdy,

I went to send it as a personal payment and it looks like paypal changed the rules and won't let me avoid the fee of $25.39. I hate paypal and I refuse to give them any extra money if I don't have to. Would a postal money order work if I get it out today and wait until it clears? Or is there any other method you would accept to avoid this $25 fee? Thanks.

V/R

Nick

Has Rowdy contacted you since? I'm not sure what he saw in that video that made him think you pulled the heat-pack from the side AND that it wasn't touching her! Clearly it was (at least) on part of her, directly. I ALWAYS tape the heat-pack to the lid, and make sure that there is some newspaper between the snake bag and pack.

I'm not familiar with the drug that your vet "gave" you either, but I DO know of at least 3 other than Baytril that are used for RI's. Maybe Rowdy needs a new vet??

Also, in the email above, I recommended mounting it to the top of the box. A method recommended by SYR and Fedex.

Matt, I think it's another name fore Baytril:

I try to learn something new everyday. Guess I can go back to bed now! :D

Just to be clear--both to the OP, and/or anyone else that reads this thread--in no way, shape or form did I mean to suggest that the OP did anything wrong. And I did read your recommendation to adhere the pack to the lid.

Does Rowdy have his TOS posted anywhere? I'm just curious why splitting a vet bill (a very low-price vet bill) when she's been found sick so soon after being shipped. Obviously she's had no time to become sick in your care. I also applaud you for not sending her back sick, just to be sold to someone else that wants her (someone NOT KNOWING THAT SHE'S SICK, I'M SURE!).

Wow that is extremely rude of him to immediately discredit you whenever you said there was an issue. Then he gets very offensive and demands pictures and physical proof of everything.

This sounds like an awfully shady guy who tried to pull one over on you and make it sound like it was your fault.

Poor snake!!! She is so beautiful. I remember seeing those ads and for some reason i had a bad feeling about it, now i see why.

Thanks Matt.

I tried to locate the ad and any TOS but it was deleted. I'm sure the vet care and arrival wasn't specified, and he shouldn't be required to pay it, but the position taken after realizing the animal was sick is what get's me.

Would I have taken the animal to the vet if she was fine? No. Did I get more out of than treatment? Yes. Can I prove the animal had RI before it was shipped or it was due to shipping? No. But realizing a mistake rather than being combatative speaks volumes. There was no concern for this animal after it was sick which leads me to believe none existed before the purchase.

This serves as information to Rowdys future customers on how he will ship, how he will handle any mistake, and his approach on closure. It may of been you that would have received this sick snake if I returned it.

Nick, I'm also curious, did he disclose how long he had this animal in his care? I'm wondering because he received positive "trader rating" from Chris Huffman (whom he said she came from) on 2/27/2011 (only about 3 weeks before shipping her to you). Now, I am only assuming that's the transaction that led to his positive feedback; however, I'm asking (about disclosure) because we all know happens when you only assume.

No I don't think he did but I was under the impression that he got it from Chris in a trade. When I first bought her I researched and saw Chris had two available. I wouldn't doubt he didn't have her for long.

To kind of answer that question, he received the animals from me on 2/15, here's the FedEx tracking info - https://www.fedex.com/insight/findi...412695&opco=FX&language=en&clienttype=ivother

My feedback was added on 2/27 because that's when I received his side of the trade. I feel as though the animal(s) I sent were in good health when they left here and were feeding regularly.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input, but to make sure I'm being clear, I didn't mean to drag your name into this in a way that would suggest that you might have had anything to do with the RI. Was just wondering "out loud" (so to speak) about how long Rowdy had gotten the animal before flipping it.

We all have our own opinion about flippers, but the only part of my opinion that I will share here is that anyone that sends an animal, should be able to back it up by guaranteeing it not to be sick upon arrival (at the very least). I don't care if you've had it since you produced it, or if you JUST got it.

Thanks Chris. If you don't mind me asking, what was the last weight you had on her? Rowdy says he doesn't have a scale.
