In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

I have one question that popped up so i searched for this instead of making a new thread

will the flexwatt butn my bookshelf? it looks like the tub enclosures from MG and even the ones at Wal-Mart and The Home Depot do not have an area that is recessed up into the tub to keep the flexwatt off of the floor/bookshelf

also, will flexwatt be enough to keep the temperatures constant? With my glass cage I have used heat lamps every winter to keep the temperatures up. No matter where I put the snake he will be against an outside wall.

I was worried about my furniture too, so I just put a thin piece of plywood between the tub and the table that it sits on.

I hope this helps,
Shelly

Does the flexwatt do any damage to the plywood or does the heat that comes off of it damage the flexwatt itself?

Did you caulk it on?

I'm using UTHs now (until I build a rack - I only have 3 snakes now), but the amount of heat should be the same since we probably have them set at the same temps. I haven't seen any damage. According to the info that came with the UTHs, the main problem is that the heat can discolor the on the wood over time. I didn't caulk the plywood on, I just set it under the tub. My heaters are all working fine, so I assume the heat isn't a problem. I wouldn't worry too much about damaging the heaters if you use a thermostat, since the t-stat keeps the heaters cooler than what they're capeable of running at (this is just a guess, though, so you might want to get more input).

What kind of lid did your glass cage have? When I switched my female from her aquarium with a partially screen lid to the tub, I did find that the temps were a little higher in the tub because the tub doesn't let as much heat escape. It was only about a 2 degree difference though, so I'm not sure if that is enough for you. You could also try putting some type of insulation between the tub and the wall.

I hope this helps,
Shelly

Right now I have a screen lid. I'm wondering if I need a new tank yet just because my snake is BARLEY longer then his tank right now. IDEALY I would have a 4 footer for him so he could move around a lot more when he gets full grown and I wouldn't have to get another new cage but I might be able to make this work.

If he's just a little longer than his tank, he's probably OK for now. If you want to make it easier to control temps and humidity in his current home, you can cover 2/3 of the lid with something. I know some people use foil, but I used the shiny stuff that sun shields for car windshields are made out of. I'm not sure what it's called, though. I just bought a sun shield and cut a piece out, but it does come in rolls, too.

I have a piece of plexi glass on there. I put wet paper towels under it to keep the humidity above 50% while I'm out
