Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

How was your experience?
I recently purchased a little hognose girl, if the weather stays mild I'll get her on Tuesday :)

I haven't bought from him yet but have been asking him questions about things I like that he's got up for sale. So far I've been pleased with his communication. Ryno's Reptiles and Rodents was recommended to me by my favorite breeder, so I personally would not hesitate to order from him. I just haven't yet because I found something I wanted more unexpectedly at a reptile show and it kinda broke the bank. This guy's prices are below average by the way so he's a good buy just looking at cost.

Yes he's professional and patient with my many questions, lol.
He also has some very unique striking animals.
I can't wait to get my pretty little hoggie ^_^

Please let me know how you like her and if she's friendly. I'm considering getting a hoggie myself. I'm such a huge colubrid fan and they stay so small that one would be an easy to manage addition for me. They're so many snakes I like and I'm running out of room fast so my next addition should be one that stays under 4ft I think. I was thinking a Rosy Boa though so I have 1 snake of each of the big families, but I think I've been bit 1 too many times by ones I was looking at now, so I'm worried about ordering a rosy boa I haven't handled yet (the morphs I like are a little uncommon).

He actually offered me a mellow hoggie girl.
but the little bluffer he had was just gorgeous to me so I figured it would be worth working with her a little more =-)

:3 my baby's here!
She was perfectly packaged and she didn't puff up or strike or anything.
She's currently exploring her new digs, I'm in love! <3

Thanks Ryan Beatty!
This was my first time shipping and I was so nervous.
But everything went perfectly.
10/10
Definitely doing business with him in the future :)

I kinda still want a hoggie. Had one at the reptile show that was trying to butter me up I think. He was such a cute baby. Stretched his head up to try to check out my glasses and laid his head on my chest. I'm just worried about their venom if I get bit because I'm hypo sensitive. I can only use certain detergents, touching carpet cleaner makes me itch, sitting on a couch sprayed with something will bug me through my close and mosquito bites swell up like golf balls. I know hoggies are the most reluctant to bite of any snake and their big puffing up bluffs are so cute. I just put $75 down on a $300 boa though and that's a lot more than I should be putting out right now. Still got to get my custom boaphile cage made for him and my woma which'll be another $300 or so this year (hoping to push it off til December). But sounds like once everyone's shuffled around and housed properly Ryon's Reptiles and Rodents is the guy to go to for a Hognose when I want one. His prices are cheaper than I've seen most places and I think shipping to where I am is only $25, which is wonderful seeing as how most breeders want $40-50 standard no matter where you live in relation to them. Hey, I was told hoggies are most active during the day. Let me know if your girly is out and about seen crawling around her cage during the day. I'd really love to have an animal that's more active. One I can watch during the day. All my other herps are nocturnal and elusive still. My Rhino rat is day active though will hide if you go near the cage.

Aw I feel so bad for you, I'm only allergic to tide laundry detergent (makes me break out in hives, who knows why) but I do swell up awfully bad with mosquito bites too!
I'll let you know how I react should I get bit.
She's actually out exploring now, has been sense I put her in there, I figured she would do what my ball python does and just get cozy in her hide, but she's everywhere.
She definitely is already proving to be an active little thing, she doesn't even mind when the nosey cats come smush their noses against her enclosure lol

She is beautiful !!! I want a hognose soooo bad definitely going to have to do some research on them now. See if this is species I will be able to properly keep. Thanks for the updates beautiful beautiful beautiful keep them coming :)

^_^ thank you so much!!
They're pretty simple to keep, hotspot of +80-+90 and though they don't require high humidity I've been told they enjoy a regular misting.
Plus they love to burrow, so I gave her a few inches of that pelleted paper bedding, she reminds me of an ant farm how she burrows against the wall of her tub lol.
I gave Scarlett a hide box, but she seems content to chill outside, no problem for me though, I could just watch her all day [emoji7]
She ate for me a little while ago, and now she's cruising about again.
^_^ I totally recommend getting one of these sweeties!

So is she more active during the day or at night? A breeder told me they are day time active like garter snakes. In which case forget the blue garter snake, I'll get a hognose. Through Ryan a hoggie is cheaper. Don't think I should spend $200+ on a blue Florida garter snake anytime soon with just putting out $300 on a boa (it was just a good find, 50+% below average price, and already tame). Dropped $200 on my dream colubrid mid December too because I found someone at a reptile show with them which meant no shipping cost plus I get to interact with the animal before buying it. That's a way plus to waiting til May for one off a waiting list and too boot I widdled the guy down lower because he was an imperfect specimen. Technically that rat snake is still the most expensive herp I own if you don't count the discount I got on him and you deduct the shipping cost from the price of the boa. I said my Rhino Rat was my big ticket animal and no additional reptile was allowed to be more expensive than him. Gonna have to put a bit of money into custom caging for the boa and my woma for when they're adults but my Rhino Rat is getting a fully customized setup I can't wait to put together.

Well she doesn't even use her hide at night, she's just been in the front right corner, closest to us, checking things out, though she's been in her hide many times, I suppose it unsuitable lol.
She was running around everywhere today, but I fed her so she's currently chilling.

I must say, holding her in my hands for the first time today, feeling how soft and delicate she was, idk is it weird to compare her to a fawn? Because she's freaking precious and has big doe eyes and soft scales and she doesn't act like she could hurt anyone.
Omg I can't stop lol.
Plus that cute upturned hoggie nose.
I would totally recommend one, but you'd probably want to get him/her from a show so you'd know you weren't getting a devil hog! Lol

I know their turned up noses are so darn cute! One in a pet store was rubbing his snout all over my fingers and it was adorable like he was giving butterfly kisses (I know he was really trying to scare up some food). I held some cute hogs at the last show I was at. Like em but worried about their venom, wasn't really looking for one, but took a close look at em while I was there. Asked some questions and the sorts. The one was trying to butter me up into buying him. They're so pricey at reptile show though and from large breeders. $125+ for a baby, course I didn't see any normals only morphs. I can't believe Ryan's prices. Asked about the temperament of some of his hybrids I liked and he did answer me the best he could, so I'd trust that if he said the animal wasn't a devil then it wouldn't show up on my door step not a devil. I've had breeders tell me they don't have the time to so much as go to the exact animal I like, try to pick it up, and report to me how they acted. I understand big breeders are busy, don't have the time to interact with each animal regularly and can't keep 1 animal straight from another anyway. However, they could at least make an effort to answer my question instead of just saying they don't have time. You can't tell me a breeder wouldn't remember if they had a particularly nasty animal and which animal it was? They'd remember it because they would want to be careful not to be bit during cage maintenance. This is why I like small breeders, who's breeding facility is whatever they can fit in their basement, garage, extra bedroom, etc. They're busy feeding babies, cleaning cages, replying to mail, shipping, etc yet they spend a little time with each animal even if that's just juggling it in one hand every time they clean the water bowl. The animals from small breeders are more socialized and the individual hobbyists remember what it's like to just be someone who enjoys having reptiles as nothing more than pets. My corn snake's breeder was AMAZING! Answered all my questions, took notes while interacting with the animals I liked to report what they're personalities were like, gave me breeding tips for the future, always touches each snake during maintenance to get them use to human interaction, and he trained them to eat from a dish so they didn't think the cage opening meant food. I feel I can go to him for any questions even about animals not from him. Best guy I've ever delt with. Got some new "go back to" breeders now from my local reptile shows. My Leopard Geckos breeder is great, always stop by to visit him, see what hot new animals he's got, and update him on my girl. Enjoyed dealing with the person I got my Rhino Rat from too. He was very focused on me, enjoyed a little chit chat, was knowledgeable, and offered a lot of reptile variety at average prices.

That is awesome blue ! Sounds like she has you wrapped around her little scales lol. You are so right on small breeders Megan !!! I have purchased all my ball pythons from small time breeders and I really appreciate the quality of my animals as well as how social they all are. I am no big breeder. I have 6 ball pythons that are social little butterflies lol. I can't wait to get some pied babies next year. I plan on doing the exact same things as you mentioned above. I know my animals down to every single spot lol. I don't think I'd ever want more then 10-15 breeder animals. I wouldn't want to stretch myself to thin. I would have a lot of babies to socialize and learn about so I think I'll keep my 6 breeders and just focus on quality animals that are super friendly. I agree I would want to know every single detail about an animal I purchased. Some of the big breeders are just to big and have huge work loads. I don't know how they do it. It would hurt my heart if I couldn't interact with every single animal. She is a beautiful hognose. Really glad to hear she is friendly too. I think Thats my main concern is the venom. What if I get bit. I'm not allergic to bee stings or anything. No allergies nothing... What does that mean for my reaction to the venom ?

All I know about their venoum and reactions from being bit is that their venom is considered of no medical concern. It's not going to endanger you in anyway unless you're allergic. That's why they're technically venomous snakes that can be handle bare handed. Their venom is very mild and specialized to paralyzing (not killing) amphibians. A human's reaction is typically some swelling around the bit and some itching much like a mosquito bite. However people have had their entire arm swell almost as if with fluid from being bite instead of just swelling right around the bite. This can be accompanied with pain, soreness to the touch, and numbness. Good news is Hognoses Snakes are big bluffers; all talk no action chickens. They're extremely reluctant to bite and even if you're taping them on the nose they only lunge at you with a close mouth as if to just simply try to push you away like a cat swatting at you with non-retracted claws. Talked to some people that work with all kinds of snakes everyday and said they've even been bitten by some ball pythons but never a hissing, puffing up hognose. BHB Reptiles labeled them the best pet snake because they'd rather run away from you than ever take the effort to throw a strike, though they like to put on a cool threat display for you first.
