In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Mike Morgan of S&M reptiles bid on an auction I had on reptibid - nothing much, small amount of money involved. His user name on reptibid is

Dreamboamm

This person has refused to pay for what they bid on. He only wants to use his master card. I do accept credit cards through paypal. The other payment option available was money order.

Below is the reptibid email confirming him as the winning bidder

Im sorry but your add said that you accepted paypal, visa, master card, money order!
I was under the impression I could use my master card because of that part of the add!
Im sorry but I will only use my credit card, I do not use paypal due to some problems! Thank you for getting back to me asap, I will leave good feedback for you! Sorry!

Like I mentioned, small amount involved and this item has since been relisted and negative feedback left and a complaint issued with reptibid.

But if he bids on one of your auctions you might have for a much bigger amount, be warned. Unless you are willing to abide by HIS payment terms, (As you have seen in his email) he won't pay.

I think he should of emailed with any questions before bidding. Instead he just wasted my time.

Reptibid link below clearly states the obligations of a bidder!

So be carefull people!

Scott,
did your auction state that you accept PAYPAL, VISA,MASTERCARD AND MONEY ORDERS like he said your auction did???
If so,, there really isnt much you could say..
Or did it say you accepted credit through PAYPAL ONLY???
Jeff

YES

did your auction state that you accept PAYPAL, VISA,MASTERCARD AND MONEY ORDERS like he said your auction did???

Yes, it did.

I do accept credit cards through paypal only. The auction description that I wrote didn't state credit cards through paypal only and that's my fault.

But he won't use his card through paypal, he could, but won't! The other option was money order if a person didn't have a credit card or paypal account.

He won't do that either.

Reptibids terms are clear, you bid, you pay. I don't see anything stopping him from getting a money order.

....I do accept credit cards through paypal only. The auction description that I wrote didn't state credit cards through paypal only and that's my fault. ....

Scott.... this is totally YOUR fault.... there is no way you should call him a bad guy because of YOUR deceptive payment terms....

There are a lot of people that refuse to use PayPal for one reason or another, and if that's the only way you take credit cards, you should SAY THAT in no uncertain terms, in your ads....

You owe this guy an apology!!

Neil

Neil

Neil, I can see your point and where you are coming from.

Scott.... this is totally YOUR fault.... there is no way you should call him a bad guy because of YOUR deceptive payment terms....

I don't see that it is totally my fault for his refusal to pay. Deceptive? There are a number of options available. Unless, they banned the use of money orders in Idaho, there is no reason why he couldn't of sent one.

When you bid on something, you look to see the payment options available and if you are capable of using one of those payment options then you should pay for it if one option fails for whatever reason.

You should not refuse to send payment because you don't feel like following through on an option you are perfectly capable of using.

Scott.... I've never used Reptibid (and I doubt I ever will).... so I don't know all the particulars..... with that said, though....

YOU are the seller.... it is up to YOU to be able to take whatever kind of payment the customer wants to make (since you didn't clarify it in your ad).... and for $7, he could always just stick cash in an envelope and mail it to you, but, you shouldn't blame him for not wanting to spend time in a line waiting for a MO.... YOU are the one that won't take his credit card??.... You could ask him to send you a personal check for $7 and then send his order out IMMEDIATELY, without waiting for it to clear.... he would be foolish to spend $10 to put a stop payment on a $7 check.... because YOU were ambiguous in your payment methods, YOU should be the one bending over backwards to make your customer happy.... not the other way around??.... find a way to make it happen??....

and under NO circumstances, should you have called him a bad guy, though....

Neil

Scott,

I would have to agree with what was said here. This person wanted to pay with his credit card, not paypal or a money order. Had your ad stated credit cards through paypal it would have been a different story.

Regards.

YOU are the one that won't take his credit card??....

Neil, you can try twisting this around all you want, but try reading what was said, he chooses NOT to make payment with his credit card through paypal.

I did NOT refuse his card, he never even tried it.

and under NO circumstances, should you have called him a bad guy, though....

I didn't call him a bad guy, "dead beat" was the term I used... as described on reptibids FAQ page, someone who bids, wins and does not pay.

I have no reason to call him a bad guy, never seen him do a shaddy deal. I am referring to him as someone who does not pay for an auction which is where the term "Dead Beat" comes from!

Is he a bad guy? Somehow I doubt.

Alvaro

Yes, you are right... it is my fault for not being clear on the issue you mentioned. I was under the impression when I listed payment options for paypal and credit cards it meant through paypal only as I am new to reptibid also.

He was under the impression it was not just through paypal, otherwise I would of listed it in the description CREDIT CARDS through PAYPAL ONLY. When you pick and choose options, it is a list of small print. Hard to see, well, hard to see for me. Being diabetic, my eyes are not that great and it makes it VERY hard for me to read small print.

If I screwed up on the options available, it was not intentional or a deceptive effort as Neil thinks it is. And for that I will and do appologize.

Article 3. Bidding and Selling - As a user, you may bid and/or sell merchandise over Reptibid Online Auction. As a bidder, you know that placing a bid is a binding contract with you and the seller, and the bid cannot be retracted unless due to fault by the seller of typographical error, or other error, due to human error on the seller's part. Once you place a bid, and if you win, you will be obligated to buy the product at the said price you indicated as your bid. Placing a bid on this auction site, and winning, then not paying for the product is illegal in most states, and prosecution can result to you. As a seller, the item that you place up for bids must be real. Pre-sales are accpted. Once a bid has been placed for your item, you are being placed in a binding contract with the potential buyer of the product, if that bid shall be the highest bid. Once the auction is over, if over reserve price, you are obligated to sell to the potential buyer which is the highest bidder in your auction. If, reserve price was not met, you are not obligated in any way to sell this item at all. As a seller, you are not in any way to bid on your own items. If reported, your auction will be deleted.

Scott,

In my opinion it was just a misunderstanding and, as you say, just an honest mistake for not having stated credit cards through paypal only. Some people don't feel comfortable releasing their bank account information to paypal and we have to respect that.

What happened is within the exceptions stated in article 3 in Reptibid. A typographical or other human error.

Regards.

YEP

Just a misunderstanding here. No harm done, but you do owe him an apology for stating this thread.

Yes, you are right. I have applogized. I do appologize to Mike for the mistakes made and have contacted reptibid to inform them of this as well.

Unfortunately, unintentional errors can lead things the wrong way. As long as they are corrected, that's what matters.

Scott,
i use Repti-bid quite frequently, and I LOVE IT!!!
I sold two animals last night, and bids starting on another now. I understand your point of view, and HIS..
You said you apoligized,,Good Man..
If i were you, i would contact the webmaster there, and explain the situation.. Ask him to remove the negative feedback, and you and the buyer can start again..
Tell him to send you cash in a envelope, and be done with it.. Sometimes, misunderstandings can turn into a huge fiasco, which neither you,NOR the buyer wants..
Good Luck Scott
Jeff

Credit cards offer protectio that money orders do not, in case both sides do not perform their contract. I too, feel you owe this guy an apology; not only that but if I were you I would BEG Reptibid to cancel the negative feedback you left. Your listing was fraudulent, he was willing to pay in a way you said you would accept, and then you did not. HE does not have to accomodate YOU because you did not do what you said you would do.

lets slow down a bit

Lets not brow beat Scott to death.. He acknowledged that he jumped the gun, and did apoligize to the buyer..
I am sure Scott will do the right thing..
I think we have ALL jumped the gun before, and Scott is no different..
Hell,, he may not even be able to take back the feedback,, but i think he will be able to if explains to the webmaster the whole situation..

Sorry, you're right; I'm new and posted after I saw page one, not realizing there was another page.
