In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Explain ?

Your add said...

SALE! MALE DD Sandfire 66% Het Leucistic WELL STARTED Babies! REDUCED TO $40 ea.!

...I know from extremely simple high school genetics that there are only 3 possiblities relative to recessive and dominant genes...

100% recessive, showing the recessive colors, carrying the recessive gene on both halfs of the gene pair.

50% recessive, 50% dominant, showing the dominant color, carrying the recessive gene on 1/2 of the gene pair, carrying the dominant gene on 1/2 of the gene pair.

0% recessive, showing the dominant color, carrying the dominant gene on both halfs of the gene pair.

The only scientific and factual choices are...

100% recessive
50%/50% recessive/dominent
0% recessive

Could you please explain to everyone "exactly" what you mean by the 66%?

Thank you so much for your time,

John

66% CHANCE of being a carrier for the gene. Hence why it says 66% HET, "Het" meaning heterozygous (what you're refering as "50%" ). They don't usually use %ages to show heterzygousity (your 50%/50%) because obviously if you're heterozygous you have one wildtype gene and one mutant gene. When you see people using %ages to show the geneotype in breeding animals it means that that animal has a ___% chance of being a carrier for that gene. So when someone says ___% Het that means 1/3 of the babies "should" be heterozygous for that gene, statistically. Confused?
Ok so in my example I'm just going to use albino, cos it's easy to follow. Ok so you have two animals, one albino and one normal. The normal is "AA" and the albino is "aa". Each bay gets one "A" or "a" from each parents. SO you breed them to each other...

A A
--------------
a | Aa Aa
|
a | Aa Aa

Ok so 100% or ALL of their babies are Heterozygous (carriers) for albino.
So lets breed two animals that are Aa to each other...

A a
--------------
A | AA Aa
|
a | Aa aa

So we get 1 AA, 2 Aa's (Hets), and 1 aa (albino). Well when you have simple recessive traits you can't really tell an "Aa" from an "AA", they look the same. So, you end up with 3 out of every 4 babies born "normal" looking. Out of those normal ones 2 out of the 3 should statistically be carriers (hets) for the trait. 2/3 = ~ 66%. SO... 66% of the normal babies from this pairing will be Aa, 33% will not. Make sense?

So when you see %ages in adds, don't be thinking "ok it says 50% Het for ___, so they all have the recessive gene." Nope, that means that you have a 50% chance when you buy any one of those babies that it WILL be a carrier for the "cool" gene.

SO... 66%, you have a 2/3 chance of getting a carrier for the gene, leucistic.

WHICH BTW these are sold.

excuse the bad punnet squares, this really isn't the medium to try to make them in
