    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

i fed my sav two hoppers two days ago...he ate them back to back and i thought nothing of it...i came into my house this morning to turn on his stuff and all of a sudden i see the rotten, juicy, corpse of a recently passed on stuart little...the sav seems all right and he has not thrown up the little one...did he just eat too much too fast or could he possibly be sick? how can i tell and what should i do? :shrug01:
 
Unfortunately, without knowing more about the animal and the conditions, anything we say could barely be considered an educated guess. How old & how big is the monitor? CB/CH or import? What are you keeping him in? Temperatures (warm/cool, day/night) and heat source(s)? Did you handle him after he ate? Were the hoppers live or f/t?

Pending that information, I will give an answer based on what I know of savannahs (as well as monitors & reptiles, in general). Savannah monitors will gorge, but it is best to regulate their food intake and spread it out...ie babies-juvies should be fed smaller daily meals vs larger biweekly meals. My guess about your situation is that either two hoppers was too large a meal, or that the nighttime temperatures got a bit too low, or a combination of both. An isolated regurg is not necessarily something to be overly concerned about - but you should figure out why it happened so you can try to reduce the chance of it happening again. Repeated or frequent regurgs mean (or will cause) actual problems...ranging from husbandry issues, to internal parasites, to a number of gastrointestinal issues.
As far as whether it may be sick, :shrug01: need more info to rule out husbandry concerns - start with the basics & the things you can control, then look deeper if necessary
 
well, i got the enclosure and everything right on key...temperatures are set...he is an import and i did handle him the day after he fed and when i did that i felt his stomach growl...fearing that he was going to deficate on me i put hiim back up...i came in this morning and there were too hoppers on the ground again...he is about a foot and he ate both hoppers rapidly...without hesitation...i think that he may have overgorged himself like you mentioned earlier...what do you think? they were live hoppers...and he is 9months old...thank you!
 
Since you didn't bother to answer most of my questions (telling me you have everything right does not constitute an answer, at least not in my book), there isn't much more for me to say here.
 
Him overgorging (Aka you over-feeding). Stop feeding him so much. 1 Ft. long is kind of small for 2 hoppers. Try feeding him 1 hopper every other day and see if he holds that down. If he does, increase feeding.

By the way there is no way to know how old the monitor is since he was not CB, so saying he is nine months is really not accurate.
 
thank you bronco...i will take the info to heart and find a plateau that he is comfortable with rather then feeding him what i think is right...after all, each monitors are different and it is all about finding his way of life :) i'll work on it bronco thank you...
