Hi everyone,
I haven't posted for awhile so I don't remember who posts in the kingsnake group. I am trying to locate a person with vast knowledge on kingsnake taxonomy. I believe that I may have found a variation of the scarlet kingsnake. The snake is 32", 5" longer than the record for a scarlet. Body a little thicker than other scarlets that I have seen or found. Same exact markings but with one exception. Locacted half way between the head and tail, two of the yellow rings join each other, forming a circle on top of it's back. The rest of the rings are normal. Is it possible that the size, and the slight variation of the two rings are related? Or could it be a coincidence. It is still wonderful that I found such a beautiful snake.
My last snake I captured was only 6". I gave her to my vet. His specialty is herpatology. I am not going to release it because the pine forsest is being harvested. Not good for Kingsnakes. I would like to get an opinion from an expert in this field. Maybe a zoo would want her if she is rare a subspecies. Even if it is not it is a spectacular giant scarlet.
