Wrong!
The pediatrician just told us that my 8 year old daughter has it.
Poor kid. All rashy, bad case of strep throat, fever, and just downright feels terrible.
I never knew this was still around but evidently it is.

It generally starts with strep that goes untreated I believe. I had a bad bout of strep this last month. If she has the pain I had I feel very bad for her. I couldn't talk for 2-3 days it hurt so bad and lets not even talk about swallowing.

Oh Steve, I'm so sorry your kid is sick. I hope she feels better soon. Just spoil her rotten for now.

Sorry your daughter isn't feeling well, Steve; strep sucks! :(
Hopefully she'll be back up and running before long.

Scarlet fever is still very much around and never went away; funny how we don't realize it is streptococcus until it's right in our face, isn't it? Somewhere along the line, what was said about scarlet fever got turned around and people are shocked when they hear about it these days. I know I grew up hearing the grandparents talk about scarlet fever like it was the Black Plague, and that stuck in my head for many years; like you, I thought it was not an issue anymore. It did used to be a very serious issue because no effective treatment was available, and now it's very treatable as part of the group A streptococcus strain and is present many times with strep throat. Somehow we interpreted that as "it's no longer around."

Steve,
I am so sorry your daughter has scarlet fever. I see maybe a case or two a year in my clinic. When I talk with parents of children in my clinic who have been diagnosed with scarlet fever, I always tell them that it is particularly important to be zealous about giving their child prescribed antibiotics and finishing off all of the antibiotic course of treatment even if the child appears well after five or six days to help ward off the possibility of the development of rheumatic fever.
The development of rf is small, maybe 3%, even in untreated strep but *much* smaller when antibiotics are given.
I hope she is well soon.

Give her lotsa popsicles...that's what always make mine feel better. ;)

She has been getting spoiled and getting anything she wants. She is even allowed to eat/drink in the living room while she is sick which is a big no no since the new carpeting and furniture was put in.

She has 10 days worth of the antibiotics and then has to go back for a follow up. She is being really good about taking the medicine even though it smells nasty and she says it tastes even worse.

I hope she feels better soon.
Thanks. I hope so too because my wife went to the doctor today and she now has it. :(

I'm really sorry to hear that Steve. If there's anything we can do to help, just say the word.
We're doing OK. Just been a tough 2 weeks. First my son had a nasty case of the flu that went into bronchitis with an ear infection and now when he is feeling better, my daughter and wife are sick. I have no idea how I haven't been hit yet. Hopefully I will stay healthy.

OH! The poor girls (and boy)!
Spoil them harder now that the wife has it too~ your likely to be next and the goodwill will do you good later!

that really sucks. Hope everyone feels better soon~ anitbiotics usually help in reasonably short order

Sorry to hear Steve,
Hope your family is well soon!

On a side note, (speaking of "did you" know illnesses)- I have a friend who just got over PARVO!!! Yes, the diease that used to be associated with only our pets has a human form now too...

Steve, my daughter Amanda had scarlet fever 2 years ago. She at the time was 18 years old. She was very ill and hated the rash.

I will pray for a speedy recovery for your little girl.
