In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Server move happening SOON!

The new server is ready, so I will need to shut down this site for the duration. Not sure how long it will be down.

Well, the word is that my new new server is just about ready. Of course, I won't know for a bit if the security guy is happy with it.

So we'll see. If this site goes completely kaput because the move goes way wrong and destroys everything (probably won't, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in my luck lately), it's been nice knowing you all. Well, most, certainly not all........

Well, hell..... I don't know what the security guy is doing, but it's been nearly 24 hours since he was given access to the new server. :bandhead0

Well, apparently it's not any problems with the new server. The old server had gotten so hacked up that he is having troubles getting the automated Cpanel migration tools to work.

Wish you the best Rich, I hope it's a smooth transition so you can put that Excedrin bottle back on the shelf!! Thanks for all the hard work!

I'm hoping that I will be shutting down the site before I hit the sack tonight. The security guy can't give me any definite time when he needs that to happen, but I think it will be soon.

He said he found evidence of three separate hacker intrusions on the old server. Apparently none of them showed up when the original server techs ran their scans on the server looking for such things. So apparently the hackers are getting slicker about their methods.

As for porn on this site, the closest you are going to get here is in the HELL forum. Sorry, but that will have to do.

With a little luck, you'll wake up to one less headache.

Hey, it COULD happen.
I'll recross those fingers for the smooth transition...and hope that the cleanup afterwards is uninvolved (because something is always broken)

I doubt it will go smoothly. At some point I have to change the DNS pointers on all of the sites residing on that server. Then that information has to propagate to everyone's ISP DNS servers before they will even be seeing the new server.

And certain versions of the OS software will need to be loaded otherwise some things will break. I just hope all the wrinkles are found out and ironed out before I have to ditch the old server and everything is lost on it.

Super glad I found this thread. Super frustrating opening up Fauna at both home and work and finding it take me to a porn site. Almost closed my account, but glad you are on top of it! Thanks Rich!

On the Today show, right now, Natalie Morales is talking about googling a dress designer last night, and getting porn. Guess it's a wide-reaching issue.

I'm wondering what is behind it all, whether it is merely economic expansion of sleaze sites, or just a redirect bug, or even (yeah, this is convoluted) deliberate attempts to foster the idea that more control is needed of the internet.

Doesn't seem logical that a business entity that would obviously want the goodwill of their clients to be using such a malicious and destructive means to advertise their company. But for a competitor to use this sort of method to target a competing company in order to generate bad will towards them? Yeah, that would make a lot more sense to me.

It would be like Ford using this sort of method to make it look like GM is using this advertising methodology. Which, of course, will get people pissed off at GM and then go to whom as an alternative?

Aren't popups sort of a similar concept in that they take your attention from the stuff you were looking at in order to look at the ad, and aren't they everywhere? I hate when I am on the Houston Chronicle site and accidentally mouse over one of those ads that actually starts a sound track, but those seem to be proliferating too.

Until all this redirect stuff went on I could not give you the name of an 'adult' dating site (or porn site for that matter), are they well known enough to that people can distinguish one from another by name/reputation so that this method would actually work?

Heck, not really circles I frequent neither, but there appears to be competition in every facet of life. I would imagine certainly it exists for porn sites as well.

Seriously, if you had an online business would you choose to use a method of advertising that used people hacking into servers and injecting code that redirects viewers to your site? You would have to know this is going to just piss off a lot of people. Heck, piss off the wrong person and then you've got a DDOS attack on your hands to have to deal with.
