    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

It is what it is, but certainly not what it was.

Something strange happened to the server this morning where it was logging an excessive loading, yet really no exceptional processes were taking place. It ignored remote attempts to reboot it, so I had to ask one of the techs to physically power cycle the box at the data center.

Just one of those things, I guess..........

Thanks for the info. It really sucked not being able to log on to Fauna, just for a few hours. It made me realize how much I would miss the site if it was ever gone for good! Thanks for the great site WebSlave.

Sorry guys. The server just must have lost it's mind for a while. Typical load on the server is around 0.30 to 0.70. When I checked it this morning, it was at 22.70. By the time I got the server techs on the phone, it was hitting 24.00. Neither I nor the techs could see anything that was running that would cause this kind of loading. Normally I can reboot the server from here, but this time the server was just ignoring all incoming commands.

Just a day in the life.................

I must say I was a bit worried...............did not get my pre-work Fauna fix.
When I got home tonight the first thing I did was log on to see if it was back LOL
Please do not do that ever again........it was horrible, No Fauna nightmare, in broad daylight.
Thanks for all you do. I love it here.

Well it could have been worse. Not long after I got the server rebooted and back up, Comcast belly flopped and I was without internet access most of the rest of the day. Now if this had happened the same time, not only would the server had been down, but I probably wouldn't have known anything at all about it either.

The data center has monitoring tools for the servers, but from what I have seen it is much like a cardiogram for a hospital patient. As long as the heart is beating, they think it is OK. But it doesn't monitor the possibility that the patient may be brain dead. Which was the case with my server. It would accept pings and apparently be alive and well, but that was about it.

So yeah, it's been a fun day. And a bunch of emails ganged up on me to have to deal with.
