In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

So I know you usually sex BPs by probing and popping (done by experience handlers). The other day I caught a thread on sexing BPs by looking at their tails (albeit a not-so-accurate measure). One sex has shorter stubbier tails whereas the other tends to have a longer, narrower tail. Do you know anything about this and how reliable this method is? Would age play a role in the accuracy of this method?

While it can be done with some success, it really is not realiable enough to depend on. At any age.

From what i've heard, you can't judge the snakes gender from those things. Becuase it varys and there still is a chance you could be completely wrong.

Skunky, you are starting a ton of threads on this forum that have been covered many many times over. You should really go look up info you are seeking instead of filling the whole forum with new threads you are initiating.

Terribly sorry to be such a burden of your time Evan. If you're not interested in my posts, dont read them in future, it's simple.

The whole point of these fora is to find out more about your animals by interacting with other folks who are experienced. I am not, I am trying though...and as much as my posts may bother you, I really dont mind, cause they really are indispensible to backing up the research I'm doing on the side.

But I concede, you're right, I'm sure what I'm asking has been said several times before. But guess what, in the next few months undoubtedly they will be asked several times more in the future. Why, cause not everyone has the resources to sit behind a computer or hours on end sifting through 300-odd posts for what I need.

The search function does help in some cases, but it's also pretty promiscuous..get a lot of hits, a lot of which arent what you're looking for

Well quite honestly, I am thrilled that someone is taking an interest in this particular forum and making a real effort at getting lively discussions started. So if it is all the same to you Evan, please don't try to squelch this type of activity unless you are willing to pick up the baton and take a leading role in promoting that same sort of activity here. Your comment is directly contrary to what I would prefer to have happen in ALL of the discussion forums on this site. I WANT someone to start taking the lead in the discussion forums to promote DISCUSSIONS. From what I can see, Skunky is doing exactly that and if he keeps it up, I may just make him an offer to be the official forum sponsor here. It appears the current one has abandoned his post and no one else has offered to step in.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

hmm, i guess there' s only so many questions that can be asked, so we'll always be repeating some... good luck with sexing the snakes if you don't know already. i just take them to the local pet store, they are very good at probing/and giving helpful answers!

Personally a pet store is one of the last places I would go to have a snake sexed. Go see your vet and they will teach you. Attend a local herp society meeting. You can always find experienced keepers there willing to share some knowledge. Even a herp show will often have a few good folks willing to help you out.

On the topic, I was at a breeder yesterday actually checking out my potential new baby ball, and a fellow came in with an adult BP wanting to give it back to the breeder (son couldnt look after it). The breeder's assistant then took the snake (upside down) and bent the snake around the cloaca to 'sex' it. I saw some liquid squirt out and she decided from what she saw that it was a male or female, I cant remember. Is that popping or something else?

They either popped it or just checked for sperm plugs. Both procedures are very, very similar.

That really doesnt look comfortable for the snake!! Can imagine you can easily do damage with that technique if you dont know what you're doing!

You absolutely can. You can by probing for that matter too if you don't know what you are doing.

I don't like to sex adults by popping though. I probe. Popping has always made me nervous that I was going to hurt them. Now all my hatchlings I pop them right after their first shed. It is real easy because they do not have the muscle strength/development to put up any resistance.

Guess since I'm not going to be breeding my BP (yet?!) its not really important to verify the sex..so wont risk anything myself. Maybe I'll get the vet to check when I take my baby for her first check-up!

That sounds like a good idea. You can also go back to the breeder and ask them to pop for you. :) Good luck!

Rich, my comments actually mirrored those of comments you have made. I go out of my way to help people and respond to questions on this forum and others but when the same topic is posted, even at the same time and the person posting does not even look to see if it is an existing thread, that is just lazy. He initiated 13 threads in a couple days. Many redundant. I was not trying to limit discussion as I often try to encourage it. I was trying to get somebody to not be so selfish and waste people's time and not appreciate this forum as a valuable resource and from the 6 private messages and emails I got from 6 different members echoing my comment, I am not alone. Also Rich, you should ask him to pay you money to sponsor this forum as I and others have done instead of insulting me for it. In the future I would expect that somebody who is so computer oriented would know not to read tone into a post when there was none there. I simply feel that answering the same question for people over and over again takes away from the discussion and by the limited number of hits and responses he has gotten to his threads people using this forum are not interested in the redundance either.

He initiated 4 different distinct threads on the same day, all about feeding ball pythons. So I am the only one who feels that is redundant and wasteful?

I agree Evan....and I must admit I was rather taken aback at the response you got from Rich.

4 threads about the same topic in the same forum on the same day....? I understand he has questions, and he doesn't feel the need to use the "search" feature, one could at least be courteous enough to keep all the related questions on a single thread maybe?

Evan,

Unless I am SEVERELY mistaken, the ONLY time I have had comment about people posting redundant threads was in relation to the BOI. Please correct me if I am wrong. And if you will take the time to check further, you will probably find that MANY times I have lamented the fact that the discussion forums on this site go largely unused. Again, correct me if I am wrong.

So when someone is actually USING a discussion forum here, do you think it is really a good idea for someone to try to DISCOURAGE that person from trying to engage people in discussions here?

I am sorry you have an issue with some person here posting their questions, but it appears that your concerns are contrary to mine on this issue. I would like these discussion forums to be used more frequently. I don't see the harm in someone posting the questions that are on their mind. But I do see the harm of some other member(s) jumping on someone by making comments like you did in reference to their posting here. There is no power in this universe that I am aware of that is forcing you, or anyone else, to read that person's posts. But please correct me if I am wrong about that.

MANY people have commented to me about the negative tone they have received from some people in relation to their posting here on this site. YOUR post that I commented on had been reported by a few other members and I simply reiterated their thoughts in those reported notices. So I am not alone, either, Evan.

You don't have to like what someone else posts here, but you certainly have no right to blast them for it and discourage their participation simply because they are a beginner and excited and interested about this. If you have no wish to help them, then at least don't try to discourage them.

I do hope that this is not too much to ask.
