    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

    Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

    Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

    Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

Sexing a BP

Oh, and by the way, if you find my earlier response to be insulting, then your skin has gotten a lot less tougher then it used to be, Evan. There was no insult intended. It was a request for YOU to cease trying to discourage participation within this forum.

He initiated 4 different distinct threads on the same day, all about feeding ball pythons. So I am the only one who feels that is redundant and wasteful?
No, you're not, Evan. I sent you a PM saying that I had considered saying the same thing, so I will say it here.

Conversely, I will explain that I did, in fact, start such a post no fewer than 5 separate times. In each case, I paused to consider the tone it imparted and the potential impact...then deleted it. I opted instead to utilize the ignore option for a while, til my skin thickens again.

Keep asking them questions skunky. There are plenty of people here more than willing to help you out.

Goodness, it seems as though I've caused a stir here with my enthusiasm which appears to not be a desired trait on this forum!!

Of course I'm not a breeder and just a lowly beginner (even a nuisance judging by some of your responses), so yes my questions are basic and have probably echoed a bunch of other threads before. If they do appear redundant, you're probably right..if someone else's thread has touched on a topic I've already posted on, then I'm going to ask my q's there as well, where both myself and the poster and any other participants can learn something from the discourse.

Importantly, at least I'm posting something and trying to get some discussion going (of course you have the right to not participate, or as Harald suggested, you can put me on ignore!!). Otherwise, have a look; there's really not too much going on in the Ball Python forum is there..it's not exactly bursting with new threads everyday. To me, even "simple" discussion is better than none, and will at least attract new members the thread if they see some activity. Your attitudes, however, will not.

BTW..in response to your comments Evan: since I've joined this forum, I have only posted 13 threads myself. From those 13 threads, I've received almost 200 responses (averaging almost 15 responses/thread).

If no one was genuinely interested in my threads, as you suggested, and they found them to be boring and redundant, I really dont think anyone would respond. Personally, I consider getting 15 responses per thread a success in generating discussion among people interested in whatever the topic may have been.

Once again, I dont force you or anyone else to read my threads, or to reply to them. You're more than welcome to save your time and ignore anything I post in future. But remember, at some point virtually EVERYTHING that anyone posts here has already been said before, and if we were all to respond as you have to each new post..then there would be no forum.

skunky enthusiasm is FINE. asking the same question that someone asked a week ago, and 2 weeks before that, and 50 million times in the year before that, is IRRITATING

enthusiasm would be reading 50 pages back because you cant get enough of what people talk about re balls. NOT asking 50 different feeding questions on 50 different topics just to get your post count up

So I know you usually sex BPs by probing and popping (done by experience handlers). The other day I caught a thread on sexing BPs by looking at their tails (albeit a not-so-accurate measure). One sex has shorter stubbier tails whereas the other tends to have a longer, narrower tail. Do you know anything about this and how reliable this method is? Would age play a role in the accuracy of this method?
That concept does hold true for my adults, but I wouldn't trust it for buying/selling anything because it doesn't seem to be that reliable. Popping a ball python is a lot more difficult than popping a corn snake (in my opinion) and so I prefer to just probe them. As long as you've been shown how to do it correctly and you're careful about it, I'd say probing is the most reliable and easiest method. That's just my $.02 for what it's worth.

As far as all the questions - I'm sure he will burn himself out. It is unlikely that he can keep up the pace for very long (no, that isn't a challenge, lol). Once he settles in, I'm sure he will probably be an enjoyable person to interact with. Personally, I have no problem with his enthusiasm - but my thought is still that a bit of preliminary research is appropriate. Then ask questions based upon that research, whether it be about conflicting information or stuff that wasn't found. And a little bit of consolidation would be nice. When I looked at some point yesterday, he had initiated 13 threads with 2-3 days...Great! except that many of the topics were closely related and could easily have been included in the same thread. Cut that 13 down to 4, maybe 5 threads, and you've got the makings of discussion...vs haphazard ask & answer. New blood is great, and both the hobby and this site/forum certainly can benefit. Heck, maybe I'll even unblock him in a day or so {*grin*}

in the meantime, Skunky, Welcome to Fauna.

Thanks Harald, appreciate the welcome and for my part, apologies if I've irritated you folks :D Just enthusiastic and excited about finally getting into a "hobby" I've been meaning to for many, many years!! And yes, as I learn more, I'm sure my pace will slow down ;) But right now, I'm just trying to saturate myself with as much info as possible! I couldnt really be bothered with post counts..they're quite meaningless to me, so no, thats DEFINITELY not the reason I post.

Anyway, to those whose feathers I've ruffled..peace

Skunky, enthusiasm is great, and I'm sure no one meant to discourage you from such, and it's nice to see someone wanting to learn all that they can before getting their new pet, whatever it may be. I guess I was just addressing common message board etiquette, to continue questions all about the same topic on a single thread. It's easier to access all of the info at once, and people aren't asking YOU the same questions over again that they may not have seen answers to on another thread...and also, when someone does take the initiative to use the "search" feature, they can access it all in once place as well.

A good attitude and some common sense, as well as a lot of learning and enthusiasm, will get you a long ways in this hobby, and in life. ;)

Not a single one of us woke up one day with all the answers. And currently none of us have all the answers. So no such thing as a dumb question, because if you don't know - then you don't know.
