In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Yeah, I know. They are a pain in the butt. But they pay the bills to keep my server running. Just a fact of life, I am afraid.

Want to get rid of them? Simple. Just become a Contributor level member or above and they will be gone. -> Please click HERE."

Is that too much for me to ask of you to keep this site running? Well, sorry about that. I too wish I could get everything for free. But alas.....

    =====================

Google Adsense ad revenue for December, 2025 was just $30 over the cost of the lease for the server running this site. So, in effect, the money providing the incentive for me to continue running this site is coming SOLELY from the paid memberships and sponsorships here. Which honestly ain't much....

As an avid carpet python enthusiast and breeder, I feel it appropriate to bring this to the attention of the community. With new carpet morphs becoming available on a regular basis, it is important for buyers to beware of sellers charging exorbitant amounts of money for animals just because they say it is a morph.

Below is an ad for a "Dragon Morph" carpet python. The animal is nothing more than a cross between an IJ and JCP. At 4 years old, if it were an actual genetic mutation, someone in the community would have probably heard about it by now.

Buyer beware.

I thought this seemed fishy. Just his attitude and his replys to the ad. He also states the animal is 4 years old and ONLY 24 inches long? Is it a dwarf? He says in one reply-
I don't know what it means for a morph to be proven.
If you have a animal worth $1000 wouldnt you know what a proven morph would be? He also states to keep discussion to the discussion board, knowing this was gonna happen. Not to mention hes a brand new member. If your only wanting cash for payment shouldn't you put local only? Im not gonna mail you $1000 in cash. Just my thoughts

Yea it's a crazy ad, but part of me believes the seller is new to dealing with how things work snake (reptile) morphs, terminology, etc...along with some bad info from the original seller on how "unique" this animal really is. Thus making up the name because he didn't know what else to call his special critter.
He's says to keep the discussions to the discussion board because the first time he posted this ad, it became a discussion thread and the MODs had to intervene a few times because it got out of hand.
I'm not really trying to defend him, as I myself have poked fun at this ad in another forum, but it's more trying to understand it and hope that it's just an honest mistake.

IMO this person just isn't very experienced (still no excuse - research before you sell!) - more of the "pet person" type, atleast that's the vibe I gathered from their other ad. Screenshot below:

A few things caught my eye here. If you dont know the correct terms or havent taken the time to do research on them you shouldnt be selling the item. He said he got the snake from his aunt. Dont you think if you got a snake from a family member you would 1. know all about the animal 2. Have pics available of the parents. Its $1000 and you cant explain anything? making up a name or genetics automatically warrants a BAD GUY in my opinion. Personally the ad screams scammer, con-artist, and just alllll wrong.

I do understand where you are coming from, but if you're new to this then not all of these factors would be considered in their mind. So then this will serve as a tough lesson that he'll learn as he continues to deal in the reptile community. The other ad that Abby pointed out makes believe he's new.

I didn't see the part where he stated that he got it from his aunt, but it doesn't mean that because he did, he should automatically know everything about it.

Ok.....I'll bite. If he's new to this, and is ignorant to the questions posed, and those factors aren't being considered, what factors do you suppose are being considered.

Oh, yeah......he's considering some factors.....actually, he's considering about 1,000 of them!

Lol. I was hoping this post would get more attention. I really don't know if he was trying to scam people that don't know that much about carpet pythons or if he really doesn't know what he is doing but I just wanted this to be brought to attention so people that are new to the carpet community don't get the wool pulled over their eyes. I don't know why people think they can just scam other people and no one will be aware of what is going on? Like I said, he could be new to the reptile world and just made an honest mistake but that is why research is so important. Just my .2cents

That is how I felt. I mean I have only been into carpets and other morelia for a couple of years now and I will be the first to admit that I only know a little information about them out of tons of info but as soon as I seen the "dragon morph", I knew something wasn't right. Like I said, correct me if I am wrong but isn't there only two morphs for the Jungle and they are the Zebra and the Super zebra and only one morph for the Irian Jaya and that is Granite? I want more people to realize how amazing carpet pythons are and if people start getting scammed in the carpet python community then that would be bad for us that do love carpet pythons and other Morelia species.

My bad Mike, I was referring to the items posted by Kyle...

I saw it some some guy who was told he had something rare by the original seller and now he's just continuing on with it. Now he was wants to sell it, he thinks it's rare, so he made up some funky Bruce Lee "Dragon Morph" as a gimmick to get the attention to his ad. Being a new, he didn't realized that he got more attention than he bargained for and is now finding out "how things are done"!

You just can't make up names though. I think there is a whole thread on how people just breed two reptiles together, slap a fancy name on it and then expect people to pay whatever they want. That isn't how things work. Geeze. I have never even bred reptiles and I know that. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that. If it is an honest mistake then so be it, if he thinks we are going to fall for the "Dragon morph" then

I'm not sure what to think. What I do know is that that snake is a cross and nothing more. And after he was awarded the opportunity to explain the genetics behind his animal he openly admits that he doesn't know what the meaning of proven is. So i'm to believe that someone purchased a thousand dollar animal and has no clue about common herp terminology?

If he paid $1,000 for that carpet, he needs to hide his head in shame and get his money back. I am not being rude but damn, it seems like lately I have been seeing more and more people that are either trying to rip off other people or they honestly don't know what they have so they just throw out a high price and hope people bite. :NoNo:

Maybe I should have worded that a little different... something like "if he is possession of a thousand dollar animal." In all fairness I don't think he ever mentioned his purchase price.

I don't know. I am not worrying about it. It is a cross and a cross only. I just simply wanted to make everyone aware of this thread and make sure that someone that didn't know very much in the carpet python world didn't get scammed. I would feel pretty sick and disgusted if I went back to that thread and it said sold across the top. That would be bad.

Agreed, 100%!

I know a lot of people on this thread and we were all newbies once......however, none of us ever claimed we had a new morph when it wasn't. It is just not the right thing to do, whether newb or 20 year veteran.
